Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) Thread merge: http://www.smh.com.au/technology/te...unable-to-plug-funding-gap-20100202-n9z4.html You know what to do: Wikileaks
Re: Wikileaks shuttered due to lack of funds Well, quotes like this^^ really help. Because reminding people to contribute to Wikileaks is such a waste of everyone's time. Thanks for taking the time to post!
Re: Wikileaks shuttered due to lack of funds What baffles me is that they need so little ($600K) when compared to a whole lot of money spend on crap stuff in the world -- and yet, it seems people don't get how important it is. Kind of discouraging.

Re: Wikileaks shuttered due to lack of funds Someone tell Pfizer that we need some cash to reopen wikileaks. Anyone in contact use reference code "JEWGOLDS" when calling them.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) They've been stuck at 130k for awhile. Or they haven't bothered to update in awhile. Either way

re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I did donate, which makes me feel ok, but if they eventually pull the plug I'm gonna go RAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEEE
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP Anyone know wtf is going on? or what the current status/plans are? timeline that I can see so far (definitely NOT complete) ^^ with a few juicy teaser links but definitely not the whole archive. Have the goalposts shifted? :| Yah. I understand that staff need to get paid. And ramen and all that. But it still looks funny. If the relaunch goal is "costs" and they're just busy preparing for relaunch, it would be nice if they said so. If the relaunch goal is "costs" + "partial ramen" ...... it would be nice to know how far off. If the relaunch goal is "costs" + "full ramen" ...... it would be a little annoying, but I'd feel a little better if they said so. This is not to belittle their efforts..... just that..... transparency is a bitch. When your site dedicated to the promotion of transparency develops a cataract, it's frustrating ":{
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) bumpology. wikipedia says: The bolded bits seem inconsistent. Is there a logical explanation? :|
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) None of the 800 occasionals are paid. The five full time staff are. That Five staff are each pulling in $80,000 for a total of $400,000 out of the $600,000. I assume the remaining $200,000 is office space and computer/network expenses.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) Thanks. That's a reasonable answer. Worth clarifying on the Wikipedia page, imo.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) Actually, according to Jan 26 2010 interview: So, above the 200k margin they have $160k for five salaries. I agree, $32,000 is not a reasonable full-time salary. And cutting back from 5 to 2 staff is probably not reasonable either- but it seems like jumping from "100% out-of-pocket" to $32k is a pretty decent upgrade. Especially since donations are still continuing. just sayin. [/herro]
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) 600K-200K for servers =400K in salaries. What I don't understand is if the Jan 26th article says they're unpaid, then why do they say their expenses are $600K ($200K if staff unpaid?)
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I just hope the database is intact. There was a treasure trove on important shit on it.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) Seems like they are working something out with the islandic gov. French media is all over this. re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) They want to set up a repository that would be free from censorship. By creating the right legal framework, wikileaks hopes to protect itself from other world governments. It could also boost Iceland's economy by creating more jobs in the information sector.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I think r3x and Raziel will lend a hand too. Kimmo Alm is on his way with super secret help from Hans Pandeya, closely followed by the "Cult Of Xenu"/HackingScientology. Maybe they will set up on TPB's Island?

re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) Sadly I donated my money to legitimate causes, like Christian Markert, AGP and SarahPAC.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) bumpity As of today, that's $170k for five salaries ($34k per staff, or full compensation for 2/5) at this rate, if they pull in another $10k/month until december- that's $450k. Or $250k / 5 employees ($50k per staff, or full compensation for 3/5) Dunno. If they're don't budge on "can't relaunch until fully compensated" seems to me they've got a pretty good racket going.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I admit, I am not all that happy about how they have run things either. But, to put this in perspective they've pissed off a large number of very rich corporations, dictatorships and even the US military complex with the CIA to boot. This is more than just having to get curtains and a dog. We are talking quite a bit in terms of lawyers, personal security hardware & software. This isn't cheap. Also they have had a bit of a limited roll out. They have been leaking a select few top leaks. I guess they are doing what is in budget with limited person power. I really think that they are just not well skilled in fund raising or running a non-profit. They just got together and decided to do it.
re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I agree. Damn, they need some dedicated sponsors (in before ads). Considering how explosive and informative the site has been, there must be a solution. When I google Wikileaks news, that shit is scary.

re: Wikileaks Lives! (It's a miracle!) I would anticipate a large bump in their fund-raising after they release the classified war footage on April 5th.
