Oxygen enable murderers and pedophiles to go living. Maybe we should ban that.

Yes, exactly. We want a simple solution to a complex social problem.

Forget Scientology. Forget Tony Ortega and the Village Voice. Forget the Backpage. The debate here is really about prostitution.
Personally, I'm a prude. Sex happens in the dark between two people in a committed relationship who care about each other even if one is totally broke. But I can see that some people want to be freaky. And some guys are socially retarded and doomed to never see any pussy unless they can sweeten the deal somehow. So I accept that there will be prostitution. That fact alone does not disturb me.

Given that prostitution has been around for a very long time, I do wonder why now. Why now are we making "sex trafficking" a front page issue? Have we already grown weary with the terrorism thing? The war on drugs?

If I'm opening myself to a defamation suit then half of WWP could be sued into oblivion by various scientologists. You fool.

You're the fool who thinks that Tony Ortega reads and posts here and cares what you think. Lolololololol!

The article linked above is somewhat balanced. It has arguments on both sides.

BTW, does everybody know that the top 50% attractive pictures on Backpages are 100% fake? These pictures posted typically have no resemblance to the real person.

Check this out from the NY Times today. A bill was passed by the US Senate which includes a section that would limit advertising on

There are a number other main issues to the bill being hotly contested so this is not law yet. The pertinent paragraph which talks about is listed and highlighted below:

Politicians are such whores...wait, that gives me an idea, let's ban the Senate, that would cut crime in the US by 25%.
  19. Anonymous Member

Is the only such website advertising adult services? I find this hard to believe, and even harder to believe that they should be singled out from among all the others. Smells like agenda.
  20. adhocrat Member

    Ya think?
  21. Etain Member

I actually meant to quote the Senator's words... good grief...

They were the ones who 'got caught', so to speak. Hence being singled out.

Fuck em. The people bitching about VV and Backpages are the same people who download kiddieporn anyway.

Scientology is the cult of child abuse, so what they have to say is irrelevant.
  23. Anonymous Member

So it's about closing down Backpages. Before that Craiglists. The ads will move to somewhere else. But when the eyesores gone, business as usual. LE don't have a place to find all the underage ads conviently and less work more money for them.
  24. Herro Member

What does Scientology have to do with VV and Backpage and this current kerfuffle?
  25. muldrake Member

Smells like a blatantly unconstitutional bill of attainder.

    More from the NY Times:
  27. Anonymous Member

Yes, it's about closing down Backpages. Why are people so excited? Remember Craigslists? If you close it down tomorrow, it's a symbolic victory - you pick an alternative enemy, make it fat, then close it down, ad business goes elsewhere. The owner can just auction BP off to it's competitors.
  28. Anonymous Member

Somewhere out there, there are people with business plans ready to roll the moment that Backpages' adult section goes down. I bet that they'll use offshore sites that can't be pressured or taken down easily.

This is like trying to kick out a sawdust fire.

Am I the only one that thinks requiring prostitutes to show clients ID with a real name and potentially and address has the possibility to make things much less safe for them?
  34. Anonymous Member

I'm sure that this won't encourage a market in fake ids.
  35. Anonymous Member

Scientology has been using the VV's connection with Backpage to dead agent Tortega. Keep up will ya?
