UK Charity Stifles Free Speech

The UK charity, Mermaids, is trying to shut down anyone who criticises it by having attempting to have them prosecuted for hate crimes. Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull has been interviewed under caution by police and is waiting to see if she will be prosecuted after criticising the charity and CEO, Susie Green, on Twitter. Kellie was told she faced arrest if she tried to leave the country.

Susie had circumvented UK laws on the medical transitioning of children by taking her then 12-year-old son to Boston to be prescribed hormone therapy and then to Thailand where he had full sex-change surgery on his sixteenth birthday. The law in Thailand was subsequently changed so that nobody under eighteen could have similar surgery.

Because Kellie-Jay objected to a minor being treated in such a way, Susie made a complaint to West Yorkshire police who contacted Twitter for Kellie's details and then sent two officers across the country to interview her. The Mermaids charity links to West Yorkshire Police on it's website.

Mermaids has faced a lot of criticism, some even from Judges in court rulings. This latest development is nothing more than a way to silence anyone who challenges their campaigning that children should be given dangerous and unnecessary medical treatments.

Susie Green also made a complaint abut another Twitter account which asked if it was appropriate for Mermaids to be enticing children to their information stands at Pride parades by offering free hugs with puppies and free candy.

I haven't linked it here but Posey started a crowdfunder to get ten grand to help with legal fees and it's sitting at almost eight grand now.

All of a sudden we've got women who normally do nothing more outrageous than posting pictures of Minions on Facebook turning into free speech warriors.
