If that kind of information was being dumped through wikimedia, there would have been rivers of stories about it in the news on the internet and every where. That was not a story on Carl Rove. ;)

He could have waited to return to the US with a thumb drive, CD or simply uploaded dox to megaupload then DLed them again once he returned to the US.

I'm saying that there are plenty of ways to leak stuff that isn't going to get you caught. Considering the US government has a bee up its ass about wikileaks, then contacting them could be risky if you're a spook.

Yeah you have to have some trust with who ever you contact, depending on the rules you can be into trouble for not reporting someone who claims to have that type of information. I think there are more exception for press however, he was not really whistleblowing. He could have uploaded files to some account and made a delayed receive e.message until he was done moping up.

No, I mean that's his real name.

Re: U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe

Because they don't search for that stuff on intelligence agents leaving a secure area.

What got him caught was boasting about it. If he sent it directly to Fox or ABC or CNN and boasted just the same he would have been caught. The fact it was sent to Wikileaks first has nothing to do with it, and I find it quite ironic one of the more tinfoily posters on this board is actually toeing the US intelligence community's PR line on Wikileaks being inherently unsafe.

The network security situation with the government including the military is a crisis.

Apparently not. He said that he brought in music on CD-RWs, reburned them with the info and walked back out.

(People still carry music CDs around? How quaint! Hmm, perhaps they forbid MP3 players for security reasons? Narf!)

He is being held and interrogated in Kuweit - why not the US?

If he turned out to have leaked confidential docs, which jurisdication will be used? Military ?
  14. Re: U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe

Because what happens in Kuwait, stays in Kuwait.

US military jurisdiction will be my guess.

Bagdad is capital of Irak, not of Kuwait. Kuwait is a different country and its capital is over 700 km from Bagdad.

Re: U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe

And why do they interrogate him there and not in the US? There are at least once a week planes from Bagdad to the States. I do not understand. He should be taken home.

    Why do you THINK?

Re: U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe

I strongly disagree. Nothing about this story implies there was a mistake on Wikileak's side. Nothing in this story could lead to distrust. The human factor was what got him caught. Not Wikileaks.
How would this plant seeds of distrust?

Re: U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe

Because fear > reason. The primal level of communication here is:

    1. Leak stuff to Wikileaks
    2. Get caught
    3. Suffer

The fact that Wikileaks had nothing at all to do with the guy getting caught is true, but will not stop irrational fear.

This is simple psychology. Politicians, to name one group, rely on it always.

Thumb Drives can be fitted in places where no cursory check can find it, like up your ass. Or in a hollowed out shoe, etc, etc, etc.

    Sponge,

FWIW, if you bring a computer into the US now, the Feds will search it and scan its contents. So yeah, bend over boys.

I don't know. Maybe for the sheeple it will, but not for me, for instance. I mean, the relation between point 1 and 2 is light years apart.

When you enter the US with a pc, the FBI will actually play every game you have on your computer end to end, to find out if the endboss has any terrorist secrets he reveals upon defeat.

It's true, because it's written on my interwebs.

Remind me to lock my phone in airport mode before going through customs. The roaming charges if they cruise the net would be steep, and I wouldn't want them to download any pr0n to "find" as evidence. :)

/brb checking videos already on the phone...

    On topic:
While wikileaks may provide an invaluable way for information to flow freely, I'm a bit skeptical about their agenda and motivations. I just hope they don't inadvertently cause trouble or put people in danger.

This man knows what he's talking about, had we listened to him, we would be rich as he has connections with anonybank and goerges bush. (never forget)

It's no biggie really, a minor premise in his argument he left out.

Major Boyle just assumed every member of the internets is suspected a child porn smut peddler, re-entering the US from Columbia laptop in hand.

It's not like that would ruin his argument or anything.

    Geez.

I use DownloadHelper (Windows) to grab every good video that goes by in MP4 format, then I just threw it at the phone. Let's see Scientology try removing it from there!

    Charge Sheet

$1800 bucks a month (that almost $11 per hour) no wonder he was leaking info to wikileaks.
