What the fuck. David Letterman looks extremely uncomfortable during the entire story. "Isn't that attempted man slaughter?" Heh.

Edit: also, lol at the "that's what your doctor told you" line.

Ok, watch him laughing with Letterman and then watch him laughing in that freaking Scn video and you can tell that in the 2nd that it's put on and not genuine.

Tom on Letterman was genuinely cracked up. That was a real laugh. And my dad is a pilot and I get where doing that to someone would be funny. It wouldn't hurt them for a SHORT period of time. Anyway, my point was that that was real laughter and not the fake maniacal laughter from the Scn video.

Yeah... I've been to an altitude chamber where they simulate flying at 10,000' without oxygen. While seated at desks, we would play with kiddie toys. For example, the red and blue ball with the shape cut-outs in it and the yellow plastic shapes that fit through the holes... You know you're suffering hypoxia when you find yourself trying to cram the star shape into the oval shaped hole. Or you don't realize... You just get kind of high, and then start to pass out. (and your buddy or the instructor slaps the oxygen mask on your face, and your normal mental function resumes.

I experience this when scuba diving. It's called nitrogen narcosis, or, "getting narced," but it's the same principle. At depth, the body takes on nitrogen, supplanting the level of oxygen available to circulate in the bloodstream. The feeling is like being high or woozy drunk. In fact, it's known as "Martini's Law," that for each atmosphere one descends, it's like having one martini on an empty stomach. There is also the "dark narc," which means that rather than feeling high, giddy, or happy drunk, one begins to panic and is overwhelmed with feelings of impending death. The cure for this is to simply ascend a little, until symptoms vanish.

it sounded like he shut off a man's oxygen who was "on oxygen", that's why it sounded so bad.

Banning Tom Cruise is the best way to communicate to him and his entourage.

Do you think Oprah would be interested in interviewing the fine young women over at "Ex-Scientology Kids.com"? She seems very very interested in children getting proper education and care.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

ABCNews.com has a story on Tom and Oprah.

ABC News: Risky Business: A Tom Cruise Comeback

It's been an odd couple of years for Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise will return to the very couch he so famously jumped on three years ago when he appears on "The Oprah Winfrey" show May 2 and 5.
(John McConnico/AP Photo)In May 2005, Cruise made headlines for an overly rambunctious appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" after he began jumping on the host's couch in excitement over his budding romance with actress Katie Holmes.

Then, in June of that same year and just one week after proposing atop the Eiffel Tower to Holmes — whom he had been dating for only three months — Cruise made yet another controversial on-air appearance, this time on NBC's "Today" show.

In an interview with host Matt Lauer, Cruise said that he'd "never agreed with psychiatry," something he considered to be a "pseudoscience," and added that he doesn't believe in "chemical imbalances."

Cruise went on to say that anti-depressant drugs only "mask" problems that could otherwise be solved with "exercise and vitamins," and stuck to his theory even after Lauer brought up actress Brooke Shields, who had just recently gone public with her struggle with postpartum depression. The actor later apologized to Shields for his remarks.
Also an outspoken advocate for Scientology, Cruise and wife Holmes soon made headlines again when reports emerged that they would conduct a "silent birth" for their daughter, Suri Cruise, who was born in April 2006. A silent birth, according to the religion, discourages speaking during the birthing process.

This year, Cruise, 46, was set to star as a German officer leading a conspiracy to assassinate Hitler in "Valkryie." The movie sparked controversy and debate after the German government banned the producers from filming at historical landmarks.

Eventually the ban was lifted, but the movie's release was still delayed from June 2008 until President's Day weekend 2009, a move the production company said was timed to profit from a big holiday box office weekend.

So when news broke that Cruise will not only return to television but to Oprah's couch, some began to wonder if Cruise was orchestrating a comeback.

His last movie was Mission Impossible 3 in 2006, which did well at the box office, grossing almost $400 million. He's since left Paramount to form a movie production company called Cruise/Wagner Productions.

    Can Cruise Salvage His Repution?
"Going back on 'Oprah' — going back to the scene of the crime — is a brilliant thing to do," said Howard Bragman, founder of public relations firm Fifteen Minutes, who is certain Cruise can make a comeback. "[Cruise] is a really smart guy and will go on [the show] and I bet you will make fun of himself."

"And we love it in America when you make fun of yourself," said Bragman.

Cruise is returning to "Oprah" on May 2 and May 5 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his film "Risky Business," the movie that arguably launched his career into stardom.

"It's like a piñata syndrome," said Bragman of Cruise's up-and-down reputation in the eyes of the public. "We like to raise people really high and then beat them with sticks and see what comes out.

"And for some twisted reason the average person gets off when someone famous messes up or shows they have issues."

    Has Cruise Become a 'Joke'?
His fortunes may depend on whether Cruise can recast his brand, one that some image experts told ABCNEWS.com has become somewhat of a joke.

"Cruise has become someone you almost laugh at," said Ronn Torossian, the CEO of 5W Public Relations. "People talk about him like they would about Michael Jackson or Mike Tyson."

"He's trying to reshape his brand," said Torossian, "but it's going to take a lot more than one appearance on 'Oprah' to make a comeback."

Torossian said Cruise's behavior over the past few years has cast him as a strange guy in many people's minds, a stigma that he will have to overcome to make a true comeback.

"A series of weird things have happened and people now think of him in a weird way," said Torossian. "He's an odd guy."

Just a few days before his upcoming return to 'Oprah,' singer Cher revealed on the same show that she had once dated Cruise.

Both Bragman and Torossian didn't have an answer as to whether this fact would hurt or help Cruise's case, but agreed it's another "strange" thing to add to Cruise's resume.

Still, Bragman remains hopeful that Cruise's reputation isn't doomed.

"How many times has John Travolta come back when we thought his career was dead," said PR guru Bragman. "We love a great comeback story in America."

"If we loved you once we'll love you again," he added.

I've noticed Anons posting on Oprah.com are starting to attack Oprah, and in a few cases even her fan base, in their postings.

I think this is a really, EPICLY bad idea.

I thought folks here got it. That the idea is to win people over, not piss them off. You can challenge Oprah to do a better job, sure, but implying she's complicit? Implying to their "faces" that her fans are stupid for watching or supporting her if she doesn't do what we ask?

    EPIC. FAILURE.

Yeah, there's no controlling what individual Anons do. I get that, as always. But I hope people use their heads. Even if Oprah secretly IS a Scientologist flunky, all you do is get someone's back up by tossing an accusation. Pride will make them oppose you even more instead of conceding stuff to you. And you don't win new converts willing to go out and research a story by pissing on their hero. I mean Oprah, in this case, not Tom--since his couch jumping has made him so vulnerable to criticism. But Oprah is NOT Tom, and if you make her the bad guy in your posts, you are just going to close minds like a steel trap. Better to softpeddle a bit, and stick to the tactic of appealing to Oprah to step up to the plate, rather than try and crucify her in front of her most rabbid fans.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

Heh. Sorry I messed your quote up a bit by continuing to edit my post a bit.

But the point stands. Oprah could be Satan in disguise and it wouldn't make a difference. She's subject to pressure from her fans, and the LAST thing you want to do is piss them off by tossing accusations at her. You APPEAL to her and win them over that way. "Oprah please help" or maybe even as much as "Oprah, I used to enjoy when you exposed people like this"! But coming STRAIGHT OUT, as one person did, and accusing her of being a closet Scientologist who's covered for her cult?

Even were it true, did that poster REALLY think it was a good idea to toss it in her fans' faces like that? And without proof it just makes us look like a bunch of baboons to them.

Hey everyone. Chianon here. We need a press release ASAP. Anonymous will be outside of oprahs studio on 5/5 during the taping. We will have signs and attempt to hand flyers out to the audience as they wait for admittance to the studio.

We will focus our efforts on educating the people about Disconnection and the effects of scientology on families and children.

A thread will be started for this soon but time is of the essence. we want to get as much local media and national as possible there. even the gossip/celeb outlets.

If you have ideas, post here, in the chicago thread, PM me or email at Lronenturbulated@gmail

    Thanks

    Thread is here! http://forums.whyweprotest.net/42-e...s-release-5-5-oprah-protest-11871/#post215589 Thanks!

Thanks Consensus. Ideally it should go out tomorrow so that the media has time to prepare for it. Oprah starts early monday morning (7am). My gut tells me that waiting until friday to send out the release will be too late and minimize our chances of exposure.

    Thanks everyone

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

Here's an analogy for Anonymous to run with:
Suppose Oprah scheduled Ken Lay to be her guest, one week before the Enron crash. Suppose, also, that some people on the internet had discovered the accounting practices and problems with Enron, and were actively bringing about awareness of the issue.

If she went with Lay as her guest, and he encouraged everyone to invest in Enron, and for people to work for Enron, that'd be her right. She has the right to not question Lay. And every citizen has the right to work for or buy stocks in any company they like.

But she sure would've had a lot of egg on her face if she was uncritical during the interview. And we're hoping she can avoid that kind of blunder.

e: I agree that time is of the essence. The press release needs to be polished up as quickly as possible, and local anons should get it to chicago press as soon as possible. The big international PR list isn't as high a priority, as long as it goes out prior to the airing of the show.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

Rosie was on The Rachel Ray Show and O’Donnell told Ray that she no longer harbors a crush on Tom Cruise, and e-mailed to tell him as much. “Tom knows, I wrote him an e-mail: ‘Sorry it’s happened, I didn’t think it would.’ Send.

I imagine Tommy's stance on psychotrophic drugs did that.

And then from MSNBC this morning: Apparently, his in studio appearance has already been taped.

Tom Cruise’s two-part interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” includes a snowmobile ride and a frank discussion of his rocky media image, followed by an in-studio celebration of “Risky Business” 25 years ago, a person close to the production told The Associated Press Wednesday.

Cruise talks candidly with Winfrey about his personal life, said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the show and requested anonymity. He discusses his childhood, life with wife Katie Holmes and their daughter Suri, Scientology and a 2005 appearance on “The Today Show” in which he criticized psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs.

Cruise and Winfrey are longtime friends, but they have not seen each other since his infamous couch-jumping incident on her show three years ago, the person said. The actor is currently in talks to star in the fourth “Mission: Impossible” film.

For Friday’s show, Winfrey interviewed the 45-year-old actor at his home in Telluride, Colo., where he shares personal photos and anecdotes with the talk-show queen. Monday’s episode was taped in front of a studio audience and includes appearances by several celebrities who congratulate Cruise on a career that took off when he danced in his underwear in 1983’s “Risky Business.”In his 25 years in the business, Tom Cruise has become the epitome of a true Hollywood star,” Warner Home Video senior vice president and general manager Jeff Baker said in a statement Wednesday. “We are very proud of this timeless classic and the film that became his breakthrough role.”

The company plans to release a commemorative DVD of the film, a representative said.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

Since I'm a mom surrounded by Oprah fanatics out here in the heartland, I'm quite familiar with the mindset of her devotees and Eckhart Tolle club members (gag).

When commenting on her boards, and talking about her publicly, you are likely to get best results if you make some gentle points:
    • Her heart's in the right place, and she's a very spiritual person, but sometimes she takes things too far, or succumbs to the fad of the day.
    • Her loyalty to her friends, and relative isolation from perceptions of ordinary citizens have blinded her to some of our realities -- she's kind of in an ivory tower, like Rapunzel, on some topics.
    • She's been deceived and misled about Scientology, because she likes Tom, and HE has been deceived and misled about Scientology. They're both VICTIMS.
Please, please don't attack Oprah or go overboard with saying how much you hate her, attack her weight, make petty points, etc. People really identify with her on some of her personal issues. If you attack Oprah, you attack them and their personal issues, and it turns them off.

Even if you think she's Satan incarnate, and that she for sure is too savvy not to know about this stuff, etc., etc., don't say that to devoted fans. Keep it to yourself, because that's not remotely where her fans are coming from.

They like her, and if she's being misinformed or protected from the truth, they'll try to get the truth to her to "save her." If we can convince them that she's being unknowingly harmed by association with this, or is being tricked into betraying her own principles, you will effectively harness her longtime fans' ability to communicate with her and motivate them to do so.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

Just one more try on what the fliers and handouts should say.

I personally DON'T think the child abuse, forced abortions stuff is the way to go, at least not as the main theme of a flier. It's too unbelievable and frightening. Remember, Oprah's audience a) love Oprah and b) love TC.
They will dismiss you as nutjob vigilantes and dislike you for disrupting their exciting day out.

I actually think in some ways in this case the image of Anons being friendly, approachable and reasonable, to appeal to soccer mom types, is as important as the fliers. Less of a picket, more of a conversation, if possible.

The fliers, IMHO, should express concern at what the CoS is doing to beloved Thomas and St Katie and their supercute Suri. We love Tom, but look how they've brainwashed him! And be sure to debunk some of the so-called "black PR" (hideous phrase) about Anon- the cyberterrorism, anthrax, religious bigot claims. He may well make them on air.

Being nice and chatty, showing genuine concern for Tom and other CoS victims, and counteracting bad PR will do more for the cause here than shock stories of child abuse and apparent "conspiracy theories". You can work these in as details for people to pick up later, but IMHO to have max. impact you need the softly-softly nicey-nicey approach on the day.

Hmm, will need further information/confirmation about this "already taped" deal. Luckily we have a few days to confirm. For myself, it doesnt matter if cruise is in the studio or not. It just means that I dont have to be out on the mean streets of chicago (lol) at 6am but rather during the time that the episode airs.

I would love to see this commercial monday afternoon "Tom Cruise returned to Oprah today, see why these masked people were dancing outside her studio and what they had to say about it at 5 and 6pm on ABC news 7 Chicago."

Herd of cats. Flock of birds. Water wearing down a mountain- making ways where there used to be none.

Re: Tom Cruise in Chicago May5th for Oprah Interview.

I said this back when this first came up. They never tell ahead of time what particular show is being taped. When you buy tickets for Oprah, you just buy them for a certain date. You don't know what the show is about until you are sitting in the audience. She likes to surprise her audiences. There may still very well be a taping on Monday, though. It'll just be of something else. People will still be there.
