The Wikileaks effect: the rebirth of investigative journalism

    By Liliana Bounegru

The first day of this year's News World Summit in Hong Kong closed with a session called 'The Wikileaks effect: the rebirth of investigative journalism'. The session is described as:

In 2010 it was quite common to hear that Wikileaks had killed investigative journalism. That Bob Woodward had been replaced by Julian Assange and Woodward’s microphone by a USB key! Although hackers might increasingly become the new whistleblowers, editors need to rethink investigative journalism in the digital age, be aware of the new risks of manipulation, and improve their own resources and tools beyond cooperation and reliance on leak websites.

Watch the keynote speech of Julian Assange, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Wikileaks, and the debate that followed with Sylvie Kauffmann, Editorial Director of Le Monde, Giannina Segnini, Director for Investigation of Periódico la Nación and Li Xin, Managing Editor of Caixin Weekly in the video below.
