    Trump’s favorite target: photojournalists

By Al Tompkins, Poynter, February 26, 2016

Just before Donald Trump called for harsher libel laws at a rally in Fort Worth, Texas this afternoon, he fell back on a familiar tactic to mock the press.

He was several minutes into a speech on immigration when he was interrupted by chanting from the audience. "Is that a protester?" he asked. "Oh good, turn the cameras! Turn the cameras, good!"

This is straight out of the Trump campaign playbook: Order photojournalists to pan their cameras to show the crowd, then ridicule them when they refuse.

This maneuver was on display at a Jan. 2 Donald Trump rally in Biloxi, Mississippi. Photojournalists were greeted by a chorus of boos after Trump demanded they zoom out from the podium to show the audience. He singled out one journalist, a CNN photographer who was running the pool camera, saying he would "fire his ass right now if I could."

These photojournalists are just doing their jobs. Wes Barrett, a Fox News producer, used his Facebook page to explain why a "head on" pool photographer, like the one Trump called out in Biloxi, could not turn his camera:

"By agreements reached years ago, the pool head on camera that is serving ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX and NBC is required to stay on a well-composed, tight shot of the person speaking. It's protective, mainly in case something happens to the most high-profile person in the building."

There are other cameras in the building responsible for getting wider shots of the venue, Barrett said. Many politicians, including the president and the nominees for the major parties, get the same treatment.

To see how often Trump deploys this tactic, I asked a Facebook group frequented by hundreds of local TV journalists if they've been called out by Trump while covering a rally. Multiple journalists weighed in.

Lawsuits against Trump University claim students paid thousands for nothing

Two lawsuits involving GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and his Trump University are quickly becoming issues in the 2016 presidential race.

At the GOP debate Thursday night, Trump's rivals went after him regarding the lawsuits, which are pending in San Diego.

Sen. Marco Rubio called Trump University a “fake school." Trump called the case “nonsense” and promised he would win it.

Here's some background on the case from the archives of The Times and San Diego Union-Tribune.

I hope America will do some soul searching as Trump's faggotry is further revealed. Because America keeps falling in love with total losers who treat her badly.

America, I think you are suffering from mean friend syndrome.

Donald Trump popularity among simpletons is undeniable. His back-street clowning and promising America greatness under his presidency holds no water. His Adolf Hitler's image, ideas and racist speeches bring shame to this country and only total idiots would vote for him.
    Stay safe.

    https://theintercept.com/2016/02/29/neoconservatives-declare-war-on-donald-trump/
"Donald Trump’s runaway success in the GOP primaries so far is setting off alarm bells among neoconservatives who are worried he will not pursue the same bellicose foreign policy that has dominated Republican thinking for decades.

Neoconservative historian Robert Kagan — one of the prime intellectual backers of the Iraq war and an advocate for Syrian intervention — announced in the Washington Post last week that if Trump secures the nomination “the only choice will be to vote for Hillary Clinton.”

Max Boot, an unrepentant supporter of the Iraq war, wrote in the Weekly Standard that a “Trump presidency would represent the death knell of America as a great power,” citing, among other things, Trump’s objection to a large American troop presence in South Korea."

Today on Facebook, the founder and publisher at Photography Is Not A Crime, Carlos Miller wrote:

The media should boycott all of Trump's rallies until he agrees to allow the media to do their job without keeping them penned in.

Every other presidential candidate allows reporters to walk freely and do their job. That is why they give them credentials.

But Trump keeps them penned in, then talks shit about them (I don't care about the latter as much as the former).

So today when a TIME photographer stepped out of the pen by a few inches to photograph a group of Black Lives Matter protesters, a Secret Service goon stood in his way to block his shot.

And the photographer said, "Fuck You!," which I can completely relate to. The guy has a job to do. It's to photograph the news. He's a professional. That's why they gave him the credentials.

Last thing he needs is some dick with a badge and a gun to block his shot.

But the goon said, "what?" and grabbed him by the neck and slammed him down.

Really? Shouldn't that agent be screwing some hooker as they are known to do?

Here we have a historical moment that can lead to possible violence between protesters and Trump supporters and they expect the journalists to remain penned in?

Seriously, corporate media, hear me out. Boycott this asshole until he gives your reporters the same access as any other candidate.

TIME Responds to Confrontation With Secret Service at Trump Event | TIME

"We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK"

The U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement briefly detained a TIME photographer at a Donald Trump rally at Radford University in Virginia Monday, following a scuffle that saw the photographer thrown to the ground in a choke hold.

Chris Morris, a veteran White House photographer working on the campaign for TIME, stepped out of the press pen to photograph a Black Lives Matter protest that interrupted the speech. A video shows that Morris swore at a Secret Service agent who tried to move Morris back into the pen. A separate video of the event shows that the agent then grabbed Morris’ neck with both hands and threw him into a table and onto the ground.

Video also shows that once on the ground, Morris kicked at the agent who was trying to restrain him. Later, Morris briefly put his hand on the agent’s neck. After the exchange, Morris said that he did so in order to demonstrate the choke hold he had just experienced.

TIME has contacted the U.S. Secret Service to express concerns about the level and nature of the agent’s response. Morris has also expressed remorse for his part in escalating the confrontation. A TIME spokesperson said, “We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK, and we expect him to be back at work soon.”

Unlike other presidential campaigns, which generally allow reporters and photographers to move around at events, Trump has a strict policy requiring reporters and cameramen to stay inside a gated area, which the candidate often singles out for ridicule during his speeches. The entrance to the penned area is generally monitored by the Secret Service detail, which also screens attendees at his events and personally protects the candidate.

A question: If elected, is Trump going to divest himself of ownership/control of all his stuff, throw it in a blind trust, or what?
