    Today on Sunday May 27th, the Big List of COS Members Who Left Scientology and Spoke out just hit over 1800 names. YAY!!!

    The list's actual birth date is June 26th 2009.
    Guess the list got an early b-day present. :)
    Hard to believe I have been working on that list for 3 freakin' Years.

    I would like to thank all who have helped and continue to help. You know who you are!

    Sadly, I wish this list had more legs and it was out there more.
    This list speaks volumes and is a wealth of information and has many ex COS stories. It is a geat reference for journalists or researchers and it also kicks COS in the pants with their claims that "only a few disgruntled COS member have left".
    Paging Ortega!!

    You can find the original thread link here which is still used for adding name.
    https://whyweprotest.net/community/threads/big-list-of-over-1800-exes-who-have-spoken-out.57290/

    After the wiki went belly up,
    Anon Another123 was kind enough to put the ex list here and is always a HUGE help! {hug}
    https://sites.google.com/site/biglistthatleftscientology/home

    Also the WWP Wiki was restored and can be found here, but it's not updating all the time and it's numbers don't match the newer list.

    Would love a press release!!!

    Onward to 2000!

    Patience - wait for 2000. Make it big. There are at least four names I know that are not on the list, and I suspect they will be making their names known shortly. And that's just my country. 2000 doesn't seem so far away, so wait for the big 2k milestone.

    YAY another 4!
    fresh meat? lol nice!
    as far as a press release..
    like I said I have been doing this for 3 years and to hit 2000 would take a very long time unless there is a VERY huge constant deluge. 200 names is a lot to get.
    I say do the press release for 1800. I think it's perfect timing with what is going on with the media, with Travolta, narconon and so on.
    we can of course can skip a 1900 press release and wait for 2000.

    OR!!!! I would be more than satisfied if Ortega would do a little write up. That would suffice!

    Can you please mention that the primary wiki is now https://whyweprotest.net/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out

    The costruth one is a backup, but I can just copy/paste the same wiki sauce to it, as long as I remember to keep doing that :)

    BTW, being some hours behind means I have fewer corrections to make :p

    Ya know, that this project got even as far as it did is an amazing thing, shows awesome dedication and determinzation. As a resource it is fabulous, so yes, should be spread far and wide, especially on sites within the latest CoS recruitment areas like S.A., Phillipines, Taiwan, Japan, and always Russia and independant states.
    Thank you RO and crew, also thanks for posting the various to-date links too!

    Giant cake & cheers!

    Congratulations on reaching this milestone. This work is important in debunking the Scientology corporation's lie. There are 1800 people who have spoken out publicly about the abuses and crimes they experienced firsthand. Their stories all support and corroborate each other's. The only people who believe the corporation's lie are those still in.

    This list is among one of WWP's greatest accomplishments. You have much to be proud of RightOn.

    Very cool. Keep up the great work RightOn. Many people who leave groups like Scientology feel very isolated and alone at first- it's one of the reasons many people who leave end up returning. A list like this is an invaluable way of trying to help these folks feel like they aren't alone- and to show them that others have made the transition successfully.

    I would like to wish the Big List a
    VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
    Three years ago today on June 26th 2009, the list was launched on WWP.
    Three years of plowing through text, a whole lot of searching, translating and adding the names of people who finally saw the light and left the COS.
    It has inspired some to come forward and to add their names and the emails that I received were one of the reasons why it kept me going.
    May it grow to enormity!
    And hopefully some day, everyone will be out of the COS and this list will be no longer needed.
    Forever it will remain a part of the history of the help in taking down the cult of Scientology.

    I would like to thank each and every one of you who has helped with the Big List both past and present. Also the wiki old and new and now of course the Big List on Yahoo thanks to Another 123.
    Thanks to all who have conrtibuted names, leads, cheered people on, and who have supported this project since the start and made it what it is today!
    Carry on you glorious bastards! Onward to 2000!

    Now get back to work!

    David Layne
    While I really don't give a flying fuck about Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise and their child,all this press has inspired me to finally speak out about Scientology.I've avoided it for years,due to fear of retribution from the Church Of Scientology,because I know how far they will go to silence their detractors,but at this point,fuck 'em.Bring it on.I'm composing what will be a fairly long piece,which ...I will post on my blog and then post a link to on Facebook.I hope it will help in some small way,and it's long overdue.For now,let me just say that I was in the Sea Org,I signed the billion year contract,I drank the fucking Kool Aid,I know a lotta shit that they wish I didn't know,and I'm about to become a dangerous motherfucker.So to you C.O. S. assholes who I'm sure monitor FB for every mention of Scientology,Kiss My Ass.

  30. This list makes it impossible for Scientology to claim that all abuse claims by exes are simply anecdotal complaints from disgruntled former members who are now apostates making up stories. Almost two thousand exes (all with similar stories of abuse) who have not only left but have had the courage to speak out for those still trapped, I admire them all.

    Thx, RightOn, gl on 2,000, it's only a matter of time and a big help for those 'millions' (lol) still laboring in Hubbard's scam.

    this is an excellent time for the list to be out in the public!
    I am asking all to spread this far and wide. Any meida, news article comments, blogs, blog comments, whatever.
    At almost 1850 people on the list now, it needs to be out there!!
    It is chock full of ex members stories, court cases, videos, ect...
    A treasure trove for the media right now.
    It can even be presented to media that have already interviewed an ex member.
    You can say, "you recently interviewed an ex member of the Church of Scientology, well here is a list of almost 1800 people who have left and who have also spoken out. The list also contains some celebrities"

    and here is the heading from the wiki:
    "The following is a list of people that have left the official Church of Scientology organization and have spoken out publicly against it. Although some of them still believe in the validity of the core precepts and practice them outside of the Church of Scientology, all of them have denounced the legitimacy of the organization itself. The names are listed alphabetically by last name. As of the last count, there are 1848 names on this list.

    The purpose of this list is to give courage to others who are still in to finally leave, or those who have already left to speak out. Also, perhaps those that are still in may recognize a name they may have known before and are unaware they have left. It is also important to show how extensive this list is, especially now that some senior former members have come forward. The list demonstrates that there is a significant problem with organized Scientology."

    The list is housed in TWO Places

    Update, I'm changing the formatting around to be a formatted number list. It helps to spot inconsistencies.

    For Example, on A, I found

    24. Eric Alexandrou - left after 27 years - staff, Melbourne - his story

    Who is not listed on the https://sites.google.com/site/biglistthatleftscientology/a

    I guess I'll point out similar errors.

  47. another123 Member

    thanks. was at no.53 why? haven't a clue. Also, when first dealing with hyphenated names, was doing wrong (listed by 2nd name). Don't know how many I did that way.
  48. Sonichu Moderator

    Not a bad start, I managed to reformat A-J, I'll try to work on it later, and maybe finish the formatting later.

    Note: on the wiki Nina Lauffer Davila is listed twice (thought I was going crazy)

    Could you remove the extra line that's at the beginning of each letter proclaiming the current subtotal for each letter please? Now that the numbers are visible mentioning the subtotals is redundant, and literally doubles the editing work needed for every addition/removal, and just plain looks too statisticy when stats shouldn't appear throughout the list like that.

    I didn't see a recent mention of Catton on WWP so I'm posting this here:

    A New Leaf

    My name is Lucas (Luke) Catton. I was a Scientologist for 12 years. I am a graduate of Narconon Chilocco and worked with Narconon for five years, including being the president of Narconon Arrowhead for a couple of years. After that I was one of the top field staff members referring people into Narconon centers for another five years, where I also did volunteer projects, helped with PR activities, wrote articles and press releases and assisted other referral groups. I escorted my wife out to LA for some auditing and training in the summer of 2006, and on July 4th I met with Rena Weinberg, president of ABLE International, in her office. She told me she wanted me to go back on staff at Narconon and be the president of Arrowhead again, but I declined.

    There are so many angles I can take with my story, and not sure where to go to keep it of somewhat easily-readable length, so this will be a pretty condensed version of what happened. It still will be a lot to read, I'm sure.

    <snipped>

    A few weeks later I was outside washing my car back at home. My wife came out and said she looked on my computer and saw that I had been to some "entheta" and "black PR" sites again, that she was filing for divorce, and that we were done and she wanted me out immediately. I had poured over 8 years into it by then, trying to do everything for her, moving wherever she wanted, paying ungodly amounts of money for her to get auditing, providing a very nice living, cars, homes, activities, meals, etc. but none of it was working and it probably was going to end anyway since we had briefly separated before and years of troubled times. So at that point, there was no argument from me, as it was very clear that she was never going to listen to me or be on my side as a partner in life. I moved out that night for good. She reported me again to Flag. She routinely said things to me like, "You're fucking suppressive, I hope you die." Most of that disdain was coming from people at the church who became a third party to our marriage.

    At the end of June 2011 I was shown a copy of my official SP Declare. Not only was it heavily slanted, but it also contained outright lies. I pointed out these lies to the Flag Justice Chief, but she said it was a moot point, and I just needed to do my program to get back into good standing with the church, and that if I was willing then she would help me. I told her I wasn't and that this was insane, and left. That next week nearly all of my Scientology and Narconon-related friends disconnected from me. Roughly 90 percent of the people in my life were gone - totally unwilling to find out the truth for themselves and all based on lies from the church. I was banned from communicating with any Narconon staff, and the "Facebook Police" started its whispering campaign to have church members unfriend me. I dropped a couple hundred friends in a matter of a few days.

    I have thoroughly warned representatives at the church and my ex-wife to not interfere with my relationship with my daughter. This also serves as a notice that it has gone too far, as although I do see her routinely, the communication with her has been obstructed and she is continually in the presence of people who discriminate against her father for absolutely no good or logical reason. We currently have an agreement in place to not discuss each other's religious beliefs with our daughter, nor speak bad about one another in front of her. I know I uphold my end with her, though I do not know if the same is true in Clearwater, and she is still too young to fully understand all that has happened.

    I thought all of the media coverage from Debbie Cook testifying in court about The Hole, to Alexander Jentzsch's passing, to the Tom & Katie split and now to the deaths at Arrowhead and other Narconon lawsuits, that people would wake up and start to contact me to find out what I really know, but so far they still have their blinders on and are buying the internal propaganda.

    <snipped>

    I have been waiting a long time to share part of my story, and have just finally worked up the courage to do so. I am not looking for a fight or to become some sort of enemy, despite urges to "get even". I will be willing to communicate what I know and my own viewpoints though, without the fear of threats and punishment. There is nothing wrong with expressing an opionion or sharing information, and people should be tolerant that others are allowed to have their own paths, thoughts, opinions and personalities. I have learned a lot through this whole ordeal, and am becoming a better person because of it all.

    2012 is the year of awakening.

    that is good news :)

    but since you are more or less publically saying you are going to be added to the list with your real name soon (when you are ready) Wouldn't it be more grand to do so in the other thread? The list thread? Which is the better route to go, because then we can provide a link to your "coming out".

  83. RightOn Member

    the link I gave you goes to the thread where all new entries for the list go.
    It's like a holding place for all new names added so they can be confirmed and such before they are added to the Wiki or the Yahoo list.
    If you look through that thread you will see numbers in bold like #1900
    that is the 1900th person to be added the list.
  84. Anonymous Member

    fify. The numbers that are next to names on the list have no correlation to the numbers in the thread.
    Confused? Me too.
  85. RightOn Member

    wat?
  86. Anonymous Member

    Exactly.
    Going forward we're faced with two options to fix this:
    1. Stop using numbers next to names on the big list
    2. Stop using numbers next to names in the thread
  87. RightOn Member

    last time this was discussed, it was decided that numbers in bold next to the name help keep track of the count on the Yahoo list.( not the wiki) It also helps me keep count as I go.
  88. Anonymous Member

    So to be clear, you're in favor of 1. Stop using numbers next to names on the big list?
  89. Incredulicide Member

    I believe there is a way to solve this to keep everyone happy..

    Option 3: User styles for those that need to see the numbers next to names on the wiki, and keep the default as bullets for everyone else so there's no confusion.

    ·For Chrome browser there is either https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe or https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/oiaejidbmkiecgbjeifoejpgmdaleoha
    ·For Safari browser there is http://www.pimpmysafari.com/items/User-CSS-Safari-Extension/
    ·For Firefox browser there is either https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/ or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-style-manager/
    ·Opera browser has userstyles built in. Here are some tutorials on using it: http://www.opera.com/docs/usercss/ and http://operawiki.info/operausercss and http://webdesign.about.com/od/css/ht/htcssuseropera.htm
    ·and of course IE users needing to see numbers will be happy to switch to any of the other browsers for that :) (there is a way but it applies the style to every web site IE goes to, and testing the below CSS in IE8 didn't work anyway)

    Here's the CSS to put in the userstyle:
    Code:
    ul:not(:first-of-type){list-style:decimal outside !important}

    I'll change the # back to * on the wiki so this will work.

    Intriguing.
    Say I only care about Firefox and have the extension installed for userstyles, if instead of restarting from 1 at the beginning of every letter, I want the numbers on the wiki (and backup wikis if possible) to go from 1 all the way to 1902 or whatever the current total is, what would the CSS for that look like? Oh, and bold the numbers too please.
  91. Incredulicide Member

    Sure thing, here you go:
    Code:
    @namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

    @-moz-document url("https://whyweprotest.net/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        div#mw-content-text > ul:first-of-type + p + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}
    }
    @-moz-document url("http://whyweprotest.wikia.com/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        div#WikiaArticle > ul:first-of-type + p + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}
    }
    @-moz-document url("http://wiki.costruth.com/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        div#mw-content-text > ul:first-of-type + p + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}

    ok, hope you guise got it figured it, it's all chinese math to me
    I will continue to number names in the other thread
  93. Nada Member

    My name was Nada English when I was in the Sea Org from 1984-1989. I was a Mission staff in London, Ontario, Canada for 3 years prior. I routed out of the S.O. In July 1989 with my then- husband and 5 yr old son. My ex husband is still very much involved in C of S ( on NOTs, I believe) & we have no contact.
    While in the S.O. I held Port Captain RTC when Vickie Aznaran was the I/G, for about 2 years. Then I was the HAS INCOMM till I wanted to leave & spent my last 6 months on the PAC RPF''s RPF ( total hell ).

    I left Scientology for good about 1994, & have told my story on alt.religion.scn, back when it was popular ( & before anyone was keeping stats on 'fresh apostates' haha)

    Nada, just to double check, this is your real exact name correct? Where you called something else while you were in? You are not listed in the COS completions.
    AND can you confirm the exact amount of years you were in?

  98. Nada Member

    My full legal name while I was in the S.O. was Nada English ( I married Dan English in 1984) and while I was mission staff, my name was Nada Jurisich. I was never a public scieno, nor did I reach any gradechart levels. My training was all hatting/ administrative stuff. I joined mission staff in 1981, fulfilled my 2.5 yr contract and went off to join the S.O. At ASHO Day in 1984- June, I believe and was almost immediately scooped up by RTC. I left July '89. And here's a slap in the face: I had an enormous FL debt and even with an amnesty of 20% off for every year you served ( they wouldn't count my RPF time- haha) I had 4.5 years served and about a 17,000 dollar FL debt which I paid off!!!! What a bloody waste of money!
  99. RightOn Member

    TOTAL years "in" COS please?
  100. RightOn Member

    Face book is Nada Jurisich Fontanna
    so.... is Nada Fontanna the name you use now?
    I am confused
  101. Nada Member

    Twelve, about. Three were mission staff, Five were Sea Org, and the last four were doing nothing on lines except going to events in Toronto and working to pay off my freeloader's debt. 3+5+(about)4= about 12. It was almost right after paying off my debt that I separated from my husband and started sneaking banned books from the library- before the Internet took off.
  102. RightOn Member

    can you please clear up your name?

    Yes I got exactly what I wanted with the above userstyle. Here's wikia.com screenshots of what everyone else sees (or if I disable the userstyle) next to what I see with the userstyle enabled:
    listuserstyledisabled.png listuserstyleenabled.png
    Now I instantly see the number of names matches the total stated :)
  111. Anonymous Member

    The only problem with this is that it doesn't show chronologically who joined the list.
  112. Anonymous Member

    It also doesn't show chronologically who spoke out, and since the majority of people "joining" was just the order of us finding them, there's no real point to that.
    • Agree Agree x 1
  113. Incredulicide Member

    That's a great reason for not "showing" numbers by default on the wiki, it allows personal preference of what arbitrary numbering people want via userstyles. As far as ordering goes, alphabetically is still the most useful as a lookup index.

  114. Anonymous Member

    I suppose that's true, I was just mentioning for this:

    That would be a problem. But I suppose arbitrary numbers wouldn't hurt.

    You could always rephrase the shirt to say:

    "I'm one of more than 1900 people who have left the church and Spoke out! You can too!"

    Sure it's not as snappy, but it should work.

    meh I like the numbers
  116. tigeratbay Member

    "I'm one of more than 1900 people who have left the church and Spoke out! You can too!"
    I rethunk my agreement.
    Clears have numbers, but they don't use them like prisoners do. Names are priority and that's how people find one another. Having the website on the shirt is good. Personally don't think this is good enough incentive to leave. "and Spoke out! You can too!" I don't think they are interested in getting out to speak out. How about ... "I survived!" my 2 cents.

    Anyone who's still on the fence about whether or not to come forward will be glad to know that all Anonymous T-shirt suppliers must sign a contract certifying that their shirts will last for a billion years.

    you dont know what will spark a person to leave or to speak out. People have been inspired to speak out because of the list. Tey may not up and leave after seeing a t-shirt at a protest. but someone who hasn't spoken out may decide to do so. People who have been out for a LONG time, suddenly feel they need to help take down the cult.
    And this list can use more a LOT more exposure

    Minor fix for making it work on wiki.costruth.com which was down when I first wrote this:
    Code:
    @namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

    @-moz-document url("https://whyweprotest.net/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        div#mw-content-text > ul:first-of-type + p + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}
    }
    @-moz-document url("http://whyweprotest.wikia.com/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        div#WikiaArticle > ul:first-of-type + p + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}
    }
    @-moz-document url("http://wiki.costruth.com/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out") {
        ul:not(:first-of-type) {list-style:none !important}
        a#A + h2 + ul,ul:last-of-type,h2 + p + p + ul {counter-reset: a}
        ul:not(:first-of-type) > li:before {display:inline-block; margin-left:-5ex; width:4.5ex; padding-right:0.5ex; text-align:right; font-weight:bold; counter-increment:a; content:counter(a) ". "}

  125. Shouldn't Marty Rathbun's name be removed or his info updated since he seems to be back with Co$?
  126. Incredulicide Member

    Whatever lucrative deal Marty struck with the CoS I highly doubt it involves "returning", so he's still a former member IMHO, and still a current douchebag, not the first to be kept on the list. He's likely just sabotaging any future legal attempts to get him in court to testify or even depositioned, so no, he stays on until we see him back in a Sea Org uniform shaking David Miscavige's hand on stage at a Scientology event proving he is a current member in good standing. He still spoke out against the CoS in many forms which is what matters to the list and nobody can or even should rewrite history to undo the evidence of that.
