If the leaflets shift well and you need more manpower and you can't get Anons to help then I'll ask OG if they can help.

Hmm, 2 to a sheet, 2,500 sheets of A4, on a desktop inkjet printer? Good luck with that Charlie. :).
Regardless of the cost of paper and ink, even cheapo ink, I think most average desktop inkjet printers thesedays will be wrecked well before you finish.
Depending on the model it may halt and tell you that it needs servicing long before it wrecks itself though. Like on the Epsons, you then either have to take it to a dealer who has the tool to reset it and pay for a service (which isn't worth if it is an old cheap printer) or find a software hack to reset the service counter yourself and see if you can thrash more out of it. The problem is that if it doesn't mechanically shake itself to pieces or the carriage motors burn out then things like the cleaning pads get gunked up so much that it keeps shitting up the nozzles.

My HP inkjet did 35,000 before it croaked.

And yes, I had to keep cleaning the nozzles but it was no big deal

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

My first HP probably would have as well considering it was built like a tank. Not so much with today's domestic printers though I'm afraid.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

Mine was just a normal HP home inkjet printer. Can't remember the model. Went bonkers after 35,000 pages.

    FOI Request 23rd August 2010
Request – Will you tell me what points were put across by the Church of Scientology that persuaded the rates office to grant them charity relief of 80% and discretionary relief of 20% on their property at 51 Fawcett Street.
    Response
    FOI Request 23rd August 2010
Response – The reasons why the council granted relief is as follows:
In this case, the Council was satisfied for the purpose of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 and in respect of 51 Fawcett Street, Sunderland that on balance the COS (although not a registered charity) has been established for charitable purposes, in particular in light of the public benefit it asserts it provides to a section of the public in Sunderland.
The Council reached this decision based on the application documents submitted by the CoS, the Charity Commission’s latest guidance on "public benefit", legal advice on the relevant case law and the provisions of the 1998 Act, and the observations from an inspection of the premises at 51 Fawcett Street carried out by officers of the council.
I enclose for your information a copy of the application form submitted by CoS. The supporting application documents are considered to be exempt from disclosure under Section 41 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on the grounds that this information has been submitted to the Council in confidence and its disclosure would constitute a potential breach of confidence actionable by CoS.
This information has been provided in response to a Freedom of Information request. You must acknowledge this fact in any subsequent use you make of the information. In addition you must undertake not to misrepresent either the source of the information nor infer any business or trading connection with the Council in the course of any subsequent use you make.
I hope this is satisfactory. If, however, you remain dissatisfied with our response to your request for information, you may request a further review. This will be removed from the Directorate and coordinated by the Council’s Information Manager. A request for further review should be addressed to the Information Manager, PO Box 100, Civic Centre, Sunderland, SR2 7DN.
If this fails to resolve your concerns then you have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
    Yours sincerely

    George Blyth
    Director of Financial Resources

The cult is using a paper they wrote called "Errors in the Charity Commission Decision on the Church of Scientology (England and Wales)" to get charitable rates relief by the back door , Sunderland council are refusing to release this through FOI.

    Owen? What?

I was referring to Britons Against The Church of Scientology - a board sunderland anon hung out at when they (and the org) were still active. Suggesting the admin, Lacelotte, emails all of the members, maybe get some old faces (or masks) back on board.

Got some nice momentum building up now in terms of press reports.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

What we lack now is the Pickles announcement actually being one of the feeds to local councils. Local councils rely on the "Communities and Local Government" website to automatically send them emails. When they get these emails then they act. If they don't get them then they don't. Pickles never put anything out on that website about Scientology when he made his announcement. It was just a publicity stunt to gain popular support before the spending cuts were announced.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

even if that's so, we can still use it to show public interest for

    - the release of futher information under FOIA

    - complaints pressing for the decision to be revised.
  26. Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

This is soooo nice - it's this sort of thing that preceded the current tsunami of "bad PR" for the cult here in Oz.

A nice little ground-swell building - UK guys are doing it right!

Talk to me if you like, I was on staff there for 3 years from 1987 to 1990. I have contact with a few exes and children of staff with horror stories to tell.

Please do write-ups on all this so I can send it in to Sunderland Council.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

Would it help if folks in the UK wrote their MP to press Pickles on this lack of official notification through the "Communities and Local Government" website??

If I was in Parliment, with the cuts that are going on, I don't believe I'd be too happy about Pickles making his statement in the press and not following up on it officially.

Sunderland review regarding Errors in the Charity Commission... delayed.

I've been sending them links to read so this might be something to do with the delay.

"Errors in the Charity Commission's decision on Church of Scientology (England and Wales)" - WhatDoTheyKnow

This was the last batch of links I sent them for their edification. Victoria is their solicitor.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi Steele,

I don't know if you are still reading up on Scientology but if you are then I found the following page to be very good.
    http://www.whyaretheydead.info/childabuse/index.html

Forced or coerced abortions are very common for Sea Org women who fall pregnant. There are numerous accounts of this on the Internet. Here are a few.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

I was saving those links up until last knowing their solicitor was a woman. Child abuse and forced abortions being the icing on the cake. Class, huh?

Don't worry about the delay. Give it time. The more they read up on Scientology the better.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

I like it. Could also back it up with a petition or something. We should also relate it to the tax avoidence with the Anons in Aus.

I think that the blatent abuse/breaking of the UK tax laws would get support.
I think a Press Release may be in order

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

Good idea a petition but still need to get them delivered looking for volunteers .

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

This issue is complicated for me, in terms of compromising myself. Sorry i can't elaborate, but it's pretty boring reason anyway. However, i would like to meet up to give you some sheckles for the fliers and take a few to distribute at times/places i'm more comfortable. I assure you they will all be delivered effectively within Sunderland to relevant recipients. If you would rather keep all the fliers for the main raid/drop i understand, but i would still be willing to contribute £20 towards your costs. I would just print some out myself still. Hope this is better than no offer at all
