From Nov. 18 to Dec. 5, 1995, Scientology staffers who monitored Lisa McPherson around the clock kept logs. Marty Rathbun, who managed the fallout from the case for the church, now admits that he ordered the last two days of logs destroyed. He feared they incriminated the church.

Depending upon when the logs were destroyed, it's a likely instance of obstruction of justice. If this article can be seen as the date of discovery (of fraud), then its possible that the criminal statute of limits can be tolled and Rathbun can be subject to criminal prosecution. If so, Rathbun could cut a plea deal (tell all he knows to the prosecutor and a grand jury, for a lesser sentence). If that happens: End of Game. Checkmate.

In McPherson’s last five years, she had spent at least $176,700 on Scientology services and had $5,773 in the account she kept at the church. She died with $11 in her savings account.

The church’s Clearwater entity, the Flag Service Organization, typically took in $1.5 million to $2 million a week, Rathbun and others said, providing a picture of Scientology’s revenues never before disclosed.

Miscavige decided the exorbitant legal bills from the McPherson case were to be paid from the Flag operation, Rathbun said, so church registrars urged parishioners to come in for more auditing and other services.

“It was a matter of, ‘Step things up, get people in,’?” he said. “They brought in a lot of money during that period.”

I don't usually have a lot of good things to say about any religion, but this is just repulsive. This would be callous, crass behavior even for a televangelist.

Rathbun wont be prosecuted, but it is good to see the crime mentioned in the paper,

Prosecuting Rathbun is not an option, because the time to bring destruction of evidence charges expires after three years, McCabe (State Atorney) said. “We’re done.’’

The story is well written and hard hitting, but offers little of value to anons other than stating in print what we have been saying all along.

After reading this installment I am more convinced that Marty Rathbun is using this as a vehicle to overthrow Miscavige. He defends the tech and Scientology but never Miscavige.

This is just fantastic...I was extra-pleased to hear Rathbun admit to having Lisa's Introspection Rundown logs destroyed. It gives me hope that maybe someday we'll know the truth about Lisa's last days.

not really. yeah its frustrating, makes ya wanna smack him upside the head - but its a necessary evil that needs to be tolerated at this point. if holding onto his warped delusions over the tech is what makes him ballsy enough to tell what he knows, then so be it. His speaking out will bring others like him out of the woodwork. So I'd rather have him pumping the tech and revealing what he knows, than going thru so much inner turmoil & mental breakdowns over loosing his tech that he's too paralyzed to act.

When the endgame finally comes, the tech will self destruct. Before Miscavige ends up in jail, he will expect everybody to fall on their swords for his own personal sake.
