Starting a new thread for this because the SP Times (2) thread is entirely tl;dr and this should not be missed.

The SP Times has just published an editorial online (it will appear in tomorrow's print version) about Scientology. Needless to say, they pull no punches. See the ENTIRE editorial here:

    HEADBULLET! :) <3

The SPT is just reporting the facts as they have been told by Rathbun and others, and that is that some of those who were interviewed truly believe this. Though I would be happy seeing the SPT delve before 1986 and expose that Scientology has always been a brutal, abusive and controlling cult.

Ouch. Fucking ouch. This very well could be the one that earns a lolsuit; this is downright scathing, even compared to the last one.

    And I fucking love it.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to show the St.Pete Times some love and intially quote snippets rather than the whole thing so people go to their site and give them some well deserved webhits.

Why would it? It is an opinion piece based on investigative reports which have been cleared by their lawyers. You're not going to sue the St. Pete times because they say "we believe in the allegations".

re: SP Times - Editorial - Scientology's ugly truths revealed (8/4)

I know you were just talking in passing about the lulsuit, but just so everyone knows,
there is no cognizable action in defamation-- the Times was very wise to winnow this to a very narrow issue-- DM's wanton violence-- with many supporting witnesses. People should not be angry that the Times did not address all the other crimes. They did the exact right amount in every respect. ("She told you exactly what you needed to hear, Neo")

And the COS would never sue because that would open the door to discovery, and most importantly, the deposition of David Miscavige. That's another reason why this is well played by the Times-- by making DM the issue, they created a sort of DM deposition force-field around them. Miscavige would throw all the COS's money out in settlement before he concedes to a single deposition, as he has done before.

Can you blame DM for not wanting to be deposed as a sociopath who is accustomed to being in complete control and who has committed countless barbaric acts? The depo would go on for days, and any lies would subject him to contempt of court and perjury charges.

    this is simply beautiful.

now let's take on the bets : how long before 1) DM is in jail 2) the CoS breaks apart?

I would never have thought 18 months ago that so much would be achieved in such a short timeframe...

Personally, I would like to see Scientologists dress in nazi uniforms again and march outside the St. Petersburg Times offices. It would be a nice punctuation mark for the cult.

Re: Times Editorial (New) IS A HEADSHOT!

The St. Pete Times has long published articles & exposes in the past detailing Scientology abuses, particularly in regards to Lisa McPherson's death, which has largely gone unnoticed to the rest of the world.

The stories were hot and as months passed, people stopped talking about the articles and Scientology's abuse was no longer a matter of discussion outside circles in the Pinellas County area. The media buzz died down, too.

These recent exposes have a chance to wreak great damage to Scientology and its infrastructure, but only as long as the news GETS OUT to the international media, and isn't simply relegated to a small newspaper circulation in a small city on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.

Where has the St. Pete Time's expose been mentioned in newspapers outside Florida, for example? The LA Times published a brief mention of it (in a city that happens to be the headquarters for the cult). I haven't seen any mention of it in the Riverside Press-Enterprise which covers news about Gold Base.

I suspect that this will become another expose turned no-news matter because the international media just doesn't give a damn anymore about "normal people" in Scientology. They will jump out of their seats, however, to publish tabloid news about Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, or Travolta. In other words, if there is a celebrity angle, it's newsworthy. If it involves non-celebrity Scientologists, it's not.

Hate to sound like the pessimist, but we've been down this road before and Scientology was able to crawl & claw its way back to operational success & using PR tactics to hide & suppress all nastiness & abuse that was already publicized.

Don't believe me?? Get back to me in a year and show me how wrong I was.

You are right. The only option is a snowball. The thread about people speaking out could provide some ammunition.

Moreover, SPT cannot do it alone, in fear of looking prejudiced.

We had one article in Switzerland about it.

Re: Times Editorial (New) IS A HEADSHOT!

    QFT.

What it does do however, is provide background info for ANY news articles about Scientology by ANY media outlet in future, if only they do their research.
  35. terryeo2 Member

Re: Times Editorial (New) IS A HEADSHOT!

And there's the problem. Most of them DON'T do their own research. They need to have stuff like this spoonfed to them, or at least have the links waiting for them...
  36. Smurf Member

Re: Times Editorial (New) IS A HEADSHOT!

Precisely. I did several interviews with journalists long ago that knew only 2 things about Scientology:

    1. It had celebrity members like Cruise & Travolta;

    2. Parents often withheld medical treatment from their children in favor of prayer... the twits confused Scientology with the Christian Science faith.

Re: SP Times - Editorial - Scientology's ugly truths revealed (8/4)

ok for smurf's post and all the below ones, but...guys, here we are.

I think our abilities at spreading the information at the speed of light cannot be underestimated.

In the SP time round 2 thread i think there were some attempts(or now maybe realized attempts) for a press release by anonymous. So this should be done really fast.(and i-m not a native English speaking fag so for a news of this importance, i think it should be done by our most competent writers)

    So
    1.press release
2.translate it in multiple languages(willing to do so for french)
3.send it to all media available in each country
    4.????
    5.PROFIT!!!!

As well, a new jewtube video would be in perfect timing now.Which also should be spread like wildfire.

Re: Times Editorial (New) IS A HEADSHOT!

Then lets get to spoon feeding it to them.
