I'm told that you can be walking anywhere on the street in the Asia-Pacific region and hear a conversation like this -

I'm sure that Australians can vouch for the fact that conversations like this are going on.

I'll wait to get all gitty when there are some real results. Don't want to give my hopes up. But this has potential for being truly huge.

^ This. We all know politicians are careful slowpokes. They don't want to make a fool out of themselves or upset potential voters. However, with all the recent media on Scientology, I think the public will give their support. Or... not object, rather (people are lazy).

But since this has the potential of being huge as you put it, we all need to supply Australian politicians with relevant dox (and try not to make them go tl;dr).

We know OSA will be all over this, so don't slack around and F5, DO SOMETHING!.

This. As an Australian, I sometimes get disappointed that most of the more serious work needs to be done in the US. It will be nice to get more involved.

This is particularly important because if Scientology is defeated in Australia, I believe it loses its tax-exempt status in the UK. It only counts as a 'charity' here because it's recognized as one in Australia.

Stop the cult in Australia, and you make life a lot harder for the denizens of Stain Hill, QVS, TCR, etc. Also, coming so soon after the French fraud decision, it offers the possibility of a fantastic combo. Scientology and its front groups could fall like dominoes. Enjoyed singing La Marseillaise to the Cult this month? We might be singing Waltzing Matilda to them in 2010.

The story was also reported in the UK. BBC News website linky:

For non-Australians, independants in Australia have a long history of making serious headlines/promises and nothing coming of it. Clover Moore promised to get rid of the toxic waste incinerator in south-central Sydney (which is like south-central LA for crime - but they're a bit more laid back about it) but she didn't deliver. Senator Harradine promised to censor the internet (and failed - even though he held the balance of power). Australian partisan politicians may be reticent to help an independant (particularly when he will get all of the credit). Rudd is being very cautious :( with his words. I suspect this is because Xenophon has acted without any consultation. This worries me.... Hopefully public pressure will push Rudd to act.

With or without an investigation though his speech alone is a fucking win...

Also is it just me or is the first comment added to each story 'they're doing nothing the Catholic Church hasn't done?' Is this the OSAs new tactic - to derail the comment section?

Also this quote is very interesting

They say the same thing about Queen Elizabeth II. "Don't you see, until you get rid of her, we can't get rid of her." Can't remember the comedian's name though

Is this how all Scientology crosses look? I don't recall seeing these creepy hands before.

And this is just pure, 44 Magnum, hollow-point, foot-silver-bulletry:

Go to 2:35 and hear Scientology Australia undermine the same defensive tactic used by Scilon Central Command vs. the SP Times' interviews with ex-Scilons! I'd just love to see Tommy Davis asked about that one.

"So Tommy, are ex-spouses reliable or unreliable sources of info about their ex-partners?"

    Rofflesauce!!

Somebody plz poon Tobin and Childs about that. I would but I'm being a stupid, lazy cunt and going to bed instead.

once the associated press picks it up, it will. the AP is the standard wire service for all US news. In fact, 99% of all major US stories are simply copypasta of the AP.
