Some counties will list how much tax was not collected as a result of an exemption on the assessment for the property.

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

This is an excellent idea. I would suggest starting with just a list of properties in each state. The states/counties/cities involved may even see this and look it up themselves and perhaps look to start taxing them. Once we have a full or mostly full list, then we can research them and look up the taxes and start adding numbers.

Another interesting thought... I wonder if states or counties or even cities/townships can levy a special cult tax or a tax on any religion that forces a tithe or charges for services or requires donations. I'm sure the cult would sue, but if enough places did this at once, it would bog them down big time legally.

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

This is the tax information for the L. Ron Hubbard house in Phoenix. It doesn't appear to be owned directly by the cult. And the owners do pay property tax on it.

You'll also note that like every other property in the Phoenix area, the assessed value of the house has dropped by 25 percent. The lot is also huge (47,000 square feet) compared to modern-day teeny tiny lots.

Hubbard-Telescope already did a lot of the legwork listing scientology orgs and missions and their addresses. Here is the US part, see thread for rest of the world as well.

http://forums.whyweprotest.net/8-ed...fficial-orgs-missions-world-43231/#post823820

The list is 1 year old, shouldn't be too many major changes.

Newspaper articles could help you find purchase prices and such.

Don't forget the secret vault facilities near Petrolia and Twin Peaks California (and Hubbard's final home near San Juan Capistrano), and the one near Las Vegas New Mexico. The county clerk of courts is the main place to go. You need to look up not only Church of Scientology, but also Narconon, Building Management Services, church of Spiritual Technology, and other names they go by as owners of any property.

Guys, one more thing before I sign off.
Can you please use the format I was using?
So we don't have walls of text in the posts, we just need the the "meat" of the listing.
We don't need to know structual details and all that.
That way it makes it easier to pick up the exact info and transfer it.
thanks!
Mirele can you pull the just the facts if posibble ( I didn't read it) out of that post and edit it perhaps?
Like this format below?

STATE
Name of Organization
Status, XXX amount they would be paying.

Anyone in Florida willing to compile the Pinellas County properties? I don't have the time to do it.
Operation Clambake Message Board :: View topic - CofS owns 200 million dollars worth of property in Pinellas

Currently 81 properties for "Church of Scientology" in Pinellas County, and they should still be worth around $200 million.

40447066.jpg

Because of tax exemptions, their property taxes should still chopped in half from $4 million to $2 million.

Also, does Scientology still owe the city of Clearwater $5.4 million in outstanding fees? Sea Horse on OCMB just dug this up, but doesn't indicate if it is still current.

Google Maps

Why would Google Earth Street View - show Seattle new Org location as a small wooden building?

When I used King County's IMAP:

I also get a small wooden structure instead of new Seattle's Sea Org:

What am I doing wrong? I am typing in correct address.
Can someone else try this?

Too funny, they can't afford to pay their utilities! VERY GOOD SIGN!
What do you think about me checking out buildings close to the same size of Harrison Org. in Queen Area (again very elite area) what they are required to pay in property taxes?

Hmmm wonder why Aurora building has 2 different Parcelhttp://info.kingcounty.gov/Assessor/eRealProperty/Dashboard.aspx?ParcelNbr=1989200520 Numbers?
Parcel # 224900-0150
Parcel #1989200520

I FOUND IT!!!

2010 Appraised @ $3,315,000!
Taxable total would be the same if they weren't exempt!

In 2002 it was appraised @ $4,248,900!

Hmmm but still doesn't explain the rate yes property taxes seem to based on the appraised value, but they would NOT be charged that amount each year if they were paying their taxes.
Now we need a tax person to calculate this?
The link provides tax levy shit but all that's above my pay scale.

yeah... appraisal value is not what they pay. There is also market value like I said before.
I am not bothering with that now. I am just trying to find the ones that show their exemption total right off the bat to get those out of the way and hope that a real estate fag or whatever comes by this thread and helps.

The columns on the spread sheet are as follows:
City; address; name of org; tax status; Parcel Number; Source of Data-URL; comments

This will change over time as we learn. It will do for a start. For instance, we'll want to be able to pull up all the dollar numbers for any given state or ZIP or whatever.

i tried to put it on googles docs and got rejected. I'll try again later.
32. Anonymous Member

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

The tax rate is $9.0418 per $1000 of appraised value. The parcel with appraised value of $3,315,000 would therefore be taxed $29,973.57 were it not exempt.

They bought it for $3,700,000.00. Therefore they have unrealized capital loss of the difference between the current appraised value (assuming it is accurate) and the purchase price or $385,000.00. I mention this because another aspect of holding exempt real estate is exemption from capital gains taxes should the property increase in value and be sold. This however is a different issue from property taxes, although as long as we are gathering this info, it might be beneficial to record sales info.

I think a good format would be to have columns for

Land - appraised value
Improvements - appraised value
Amount of Land Exempt from Tax
Amount of Improvements Exempt from Tax
Tax rate
Actual Tax Levied
Tax that would have been levied if not exempt
Date of Purchase by Co$
Amount Paid by Co$

DON'T forget to record DATES!

It might also be helpful how much of their purchase price was for land and how much for improvements. It probably wont be split out in county records but could be estimated from appraisal near date of purchase. The purpose of this would be to estimate how much of a deduction for depreciation would the building be entitled to if it were not exempt. This is related to federal income tax, not property tax, but could be useful some day.

BTW I don't think their bill is overdue yet. They paid 1/2 the annual bill with the other half not due til November. (if you are talking about that $353)

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

hey as far as the format suggested above in post# 72, sorry, but I am not going to do all that work, that is just too tedious, and I have a life. If someone wants to do all that work than great.
It's hard enough to get people to work on any project as it is. I was just trying to keep it really simple.

We or I should say I am basically trying to get a dollar amount per US state for all COS owned buildings in the US that they are not paying taxes on.
And then eventually get a total for all of US states combined.
This is just to show the burden on other tax payers and for other people to access it easily.
If we make it look too complicated it will be tl/dr IMO.
It needs to be short and sweet

Adhocrat has strated a spread sheet and had been pulling the info from this thread with the simple format we are using.

What I am interested in is getting simple STATS right now.
How much per state for all exempt COS buildings...
Then a combined total for all states = total number of $$ = mad tax payers and hopefully some mad politicans = win
To see the total will really piss people off.

End prooduct is maybe a nice shiny flyer showing the total tax exemption for the US.
And numbers that everyone can understand.

A flyer for protests with something maybe like:
"Do you know the burden that the Church of Scientology puts on US tax payers?
The Church of Scientology's total tax exemption for the US is $XXXX!!!"

If someone wants to do it the other way with all that other work (which of course would be nice to have) they are welcome to do so, but not me.
I also think people would have to constantly update it with a fluctuating market, and I don't know who would want to keep up with all that?
Maybe I am wrong.

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

Also waiting for the UK, AU and others to start their tax exempt threads for their area, have not seen anything yet. :(

Again other areas would really benefit by having a flyer with simple stats to hand out to the general public.
