    Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

This will be an ongoing project to list all US Scientology's tax exempt properties, their worth, and what COS could/should be paying tax wise.

We can list all information and discussion here.

We can then start a new catagory on the Wiki after we start to accumulate enough info. But we will keep listing the info here, as many people visit WWP, and it would be great for people to see and also not everyone does the wiki.

The listing on the Wiki, can have different catagories. US states and other countries.
    For instance:
The US and all the states listed alphabetically, with orgs and such under each state.

Do not know how people want to list stuff here?
We are not looking for long articles or paragraphs to be listed just the "meat".

I know tax assessments have been lowered on many properites. Maybe we can come up with a round about tax assesment for each property and what COS can be paying?

Maybe keep posts in some sort of format?
    like the following:

    ALABAMA
    Church of Scientology
    address
tax assessment- could be paying XXX yearly.

I hope everyone jumps in and helps with this tedious project.
Maybe people can pick as state/area, and say I will work on Georgia...
so work is not doubled up?
    Open for suggestions and HALP!!

Of course this list is not only for COS "churches", but for all their other front groups tax exempt properties as well.
But we can start out with the orgs. Florida alone will be daunting.

People can start other threads for other countrues. The US alone has SO many properties, it is prolly best for other countries to start their own threads.

I think this thread is important, so that in the end, the general public can see exactly how much of a burden COS puts on other tax payers by not paying any taxes on their vast amount of property holdings.
I also think if people are able to access this information readily, it will be worth it's weight in gold.

    Re: Scientology's Tax Exempt Properties

I suggest listing all properties, even if there is no property tax exemption, to save repeated work / investigation (and to build a more complete list of holdings)

    Re: Scientology's Tax Exempt Properties

I also suggest you focus on US perhaps, and have other threads for other countries (esp given the tax laws are so different between places)

    Re: Scientology's Tax Exempt Properties

agree, but I didn't want to get ganged up on about having this thread only about the US. But There is SO much property in the US, it should have it's own thread.
Crap, maybe I can get a title change..

EDITED, ok changed title to US properties.
I think you are right. US properties alone will be huge.
Other countries can start their own threads for their areas.
    Let's go Euro fags!

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

ok found this thread here from 2008
has some good info. But the thread never took off

    http://forums.whyweprotest.net/12-active-projects/scientology-property-survey-1743/

A suggestion from that thread. The OP was anonEmouser back in 2208
this sounds very involved, has to be a better way?

    1) Pick a good size city
    2) Google "scientology near XXX"
    3) Open another window, google "XXX county property appraiser"
    4) Navigate the county property appraiser site to find property details by address
    5) Enter the address and search. Note: I have seen discrepencies between the mailing address and the property address, especially if the property is an office complex. Be persistent.
    6) When you get the property owner, copy/paste the name. Also note the appraised value.
    7) Do a property search by owner, paste in the name found previously. In Miami it was "CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY OF FL INC"; obviously YMMV.
    8) There may not be more hits beyond that one property and maybe some parking lots; regardless follow up on each of the "scientology near XXX" google hits. If the location has "unit/suite XXX" odds are they're just renting and it'll be a dead-end.
    9) if you're feeling adventurous, follow up on the other front groups--RTC, CST, WISE, Narcanon, Criminon, CCHR, Flag. I think Flag is just in clearwater, however.
    10) ...
    11) Calculate profit!

Maybe if we start where most Scientologists are east coast - west coast (like CA & Florida) & work towards the middle. Can't do much @ work now but I can start on WA State.
No sense reventing the wheel as noted a lot of reserach has been done already, a lot just needs to be updated.
I came across this info on Tipping Point.
How many Scientology orgs and missions ARE there? (includes front group info)

    PEOPLE have been busy...amazing!

I know it REAL big job. Wow the info about Seattle Org is baffeling & SO SAD!
Good news no more missions in Bellingham or Spokane, WA.

What gets me is the new org hasn't registered as a charity yet but they have tax exempt status! I about threw up reading their so called charitable purpose:
[Charities: Charitable Solicitations Program Charity Profile Report

I would love to see all this laid out on a spread sheet (above my skills)
or least updated info on how much Scientology would owe in taxes if they lost their tax exemption. Perhaps concentraing on the major Scientology cities, the public has a right to know & I think they would be a lot more interested & angry
    during these economic times.

Isn't anon Johhnyruclear the king of spread sheets or something?
First have to find something to put on the spread sheets.
This info seems to be well hidden. much like everything else they do.

Need a lot more people working on this

Fuck yes. If I didn't typically work 13 hour days (no, I'm not SeaOrg and I certainly get paid a hell of a lot better than they do :) ) I would volunteer to help put figures and stuff into an excel sheet.

This is a brilliant fucking idea and a great thing to show skeptical people on why the tax exemption is such a big deal. "The Federal and State governments are losing out on SOME BIG NUMBER of dollars in tax revenue each year. That's taxes you and every other American have to pay to cover their share/could be paying down the debt/could be improving existing programs."

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

    1. I've checked public records & liscensing, charities, but how do you find out how much a org (building) is worth?
    2. Where did Anons get the financial info for all the Clearwater real estate they own?
    3. And once you find out how much the building is worth do you figure out the percentage of property tax dollars they would have to pay each year based on how much the building is worth? And of course in that area?
    4. Do you think some exes may still have this info?
  20. Rockyj Member

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

Anonymous gears up for more Scientology protests

Found it! It looks like in 2005 Co$ paid 3.7 million for the Seattle Org building. Its been remolded and probably worth a lot more now!
So how do you figure out how much taxes they would have to pay if they weren't tax exempt?
Is there a formula? Or should I just research buildings in the same area & same value & find out how much their property taxes are?
  21. RightOn Member

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

this is were it gets dicey. Their assessments are WAY below the property value.

I have been looking around all day, trying to find stuff out. I just read an article of a guy (from NJ) complaining about the burden of tax exempt properties on tax payers and how tax exempt property information should be made readily available for all to see. So I guess it's not.
SO I guess this is going to be harder than I thought. :(

EDITED, we know what COS paid for a lot of it's properties, but to find out what they could be paying in taxes is the tough part.
I guess that's why so much of the general public has no clue as to how much they don't pay

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

Need an ANON tax expert! LOL! What about calling the local IRS & asking them, hey, how much would my property taxes be on a 3.7 million dollar building located in the Queen Ann area? (Very upscale area). Should I ask if the amount of property taxes vary from the type of business it is, for example: office building, dept. store, cult ponzi scheme? I wonder if a real estate person could estimate its current value. Lots of questions. Can't be making calls from work.
    Prefer a better idea.

We need a real estate anon. They know how to find out that stuff quickly!
  25. RightOn Member

Re: Scientology's US Tax Exempt Properties

    it doesn't work that way
there is also fair market value
and what it is assessed for is not what they pay
so calling anyone with those questions wouldn't work. IMO

I'm thinking when the building/properties were first listed for sale (before the cult bought them) the Real Estate company listed the expected property taxes. Yeah that was big help! LOL! more sleuthing.
