    true

Just being a Scientologist doesn't automatically make a person an authority on everything

Scientologists are very adept at manipulating a cause for profit..at the expense of others

If the sci's do find a way to weasel their way onto any of the Gulf beaches and start their damn touch assists or litter their don't worry, be Happy booklets, they will finally get the welcome wagon they deserve. And international FootBullet Press coverage. I

If they also start regging for donations which won't actually help anyone except sci, that will make some headlines as well. Maybe some of the fishermen and marine scientists and businessmen will come knocking on Their door late at night.

As far as oil eating microbes, besides the ones that are there naturally, various scientists have developed them. There's two vast issues, one being the enormious coverage area, and the other, oxygen depletion:

"There is a lot of damage being done yes, but the problem with the microbes is that it robs the water of oxygen, so nothing can survive. The oil is at the surface, but when the microbes die, they sink. Some get eaten by fish, but the rest decompose and the process is what takes the oxygen out of the water. You have this O2 free liquid that has to mix with oxidated ocean before it is inhabitable again. For an oil spill that size it would take at least a century for the oxygenated water to saturate the area enough for it to be inhabitable again. It's a brilliant short term solution, but for this much oil to be cleared, the damage far outways the benefits. The oil affects the surface, the microbes would affect the water entirely."

Effects will be around for at least a decade, maybe several. BP? Their past record and the lobbyists and politicians who maintained predicts the future. They've now contracted Dick Cheny's asst and one of Bushy's cronies too for their PR protection. These 2 articles cover a lot of ground, and Gulf:

Brendan Smith: BP: No Friend of the Oysterman

    Think Progress

There's no magic solutions, we're so screwed.

Note: If you know of sci's on "ministering" on the gulf beaches, here's to groups to poon (there are larger ones, but they are swamped). These two would get the word out where needed.

    Welcome new overlord...

You are right. BUT there is a problem with that logic.

Nobody is saying that VM is incompetent. There is a massive difference between incompetent and unqualified. Basically what these people are doing is going down there, doing some PR for Scientology and maybe do some clean up, then go home. Problem lies in the fact that in all odds that none of the VM staff are qualified to do the work. Although, cleaning up oil and putting it into bags is kind of hard to mess up.

Neither was NYC on 9/11/2001 or after Hurricane Katrina. Yet, all they did according to info, was just get in the way and do their usual PR Hocus Pokus. Granted, the Coast is far from a third world country and this disaster didn't cause that much damage to physical properties like a major weather disaster.

Another problem in that statement is that VMs are seldom ever prepared properly. Look at the fiasco in Haiti. How much aid did they send down there that intermingled also with their "church"? Remember when that scilon used water from a X-ray lab? Water that was meant to act as a radiation shield? The bigger and more difficult question is: How much help did they really do versus just do a few snapshots and leave? I don't have the answers but I wouldn't be surprised of them either.

Since when has that stopped them? I do not know or recall them doing much in the way of that in 9/11 or Katrina. They just showed up and did their "Touch Assists"... Maybe talked to a few people to do a little help. However, the way they sounded afterwords, people would have thought they did a great deal more!

Only way I see them helping in this is going down there, doing touch assists with workers, maybe scoop up a few oil balls or two...

My main concern in all of this centers around what they believe. They believe that "only wogs get sick" or if you get sick, its just a mind thing. This is oil and it is a chemical. It will make them sick if they are not properly ready. Some die-hards may try to go without PPEs to show off their "amazing" OT powers they gained...

    Guess what will happen?

I don't know about the rest of you, but that would be fucking hilarious to see!
  5. Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

My point is that if they are not incompetent why should we bemoan the simple fact that they try to help clean up the coast?

They certainly deserve extremely harsh criticism for collecting funds that they don't spend specifically and completely on the cause they are purporting to be involved in, but some people in this thread are just complaining about the fact that they are interested in the oil spill crisis at all.

9/11 and Katrina were humanitarian disasters. The oil spill has a humanitarian element insofar as it will have huge economic impact, but at this point it is more of a logistical disaster. I don't remember ever hearing about any scientology doctrine that involves touch assisting pelicans or oily rocks, so I don't exactly know how they would begin to justify any attempt to use Scientology techniques on the local populace in the case of the oil spill.

From what I understand their problems in Haiti largely stemmed from a general ignorance about the problem, and a literal unpreparedness. IE they didn't bring enough supplies for themselves, they expected Haiti to have running water and shopping malls. These issues won't come into play on the gulf coast.

I can see your problem with touch assists as a problem with them using a crisis as a recruiting tool, but if they go and pick up some tar balls why is that a bad thing, provided they follow proper instructions from the experts?

Scientology is extremely aware to the point of paranoia of the impact chemicals can have on health. How do you think they justify the purif?

That said, I don't know what the proper treatment for crude oil exposure is, and I don't have any reason to believe that Scientologists would either.

Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

That would depend on the ratio of touch assists/WTH leaflet dissemination/"documentary" filming... to actual back-breaking tar ball pickeruppering.
Also, charitable help in a crisis situation should be unconditional. People shouldn't have to sing for their supper.

I used to think that would make me high. VMs are part of the recruitment process and typically bitch about their 'volunteer' field trips to exotic places on the earth. VM does not produce anything of value for the public good, with the exception of adopt a highways - which I believe were public relation scams.

A good article on the subject:

Oil-Spill Answers: Are We Going to Use Microbes to Destroy the Oil? If So, How Would That Work? - Newsweek

tl;dr not as simple as just throwing microbes at oil spill, not more beneficial than fertilising naturally occurring microbes already there which is only really beneficial after physical clean ups performed on shores; an oil slick in the sea already has plenty of microbes and fertilizer so adding your own wont make any significant difference.

Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

    1. Naturally occurring microbes start nomming oil
    2. Favorable conditions allow microbe populations to explode by providing vast amounts of fud

Just returned from my weekly sanctuary jaunt with a friend at our bayside club off the gulf. Oysters and mango/raspberry margaritas or stone crab claws and spicy bloody mary's. Seafood fresh off boats, cheap non-tourist prices; even off season the place is full. The white heron, brown pelican and retarded crow showed up as usual. Add a seabreeze, and you'll understand why this is our release, our refuge, and yes, our religion.

The whole time we spotted different pairs of dolphins passing by. It wasn't until we were about to leave that it hit me after 53 days of hitting back tears. The dolphins should not have been there that time of day, and there were only 4 other customers on the decks. No there's not even oil here, yet.

So here's an informational article about requirements for charities, donations, and spotting scammers, and another agency to report to: (Oh, as to VM comments, I can't speak anymore about them without erupting, so I direct anyone to simply look what there "stats" measure)

    "Oil eating microbes"?

Because the USAF isn't already dumping truck loads of the stuff into the ocean already. Real creative there $ilons, at least try to be a little innovative.
  32. AnonyVix Member

Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

    Facts:

Said microbes exist naturally in the sea and by virtue of the fact bacteria density is determined by such environmental variables as availability of compatible nutrients, temperature and oxygenation dumping more on the existing population really doesn't help much because a surplus will at best die off or at worse just suffocate the naturally occurring stuff.

Thanks to the above the microbes are only possibly useful on land and only after the bulk of the oil has been removed because even en-mass they work quite slowly, even then there is some doubt as to whether they make much difference.

It is however cheap and it wouldn't surprise me if much of the money went on other standard cult consumables such as "Way to Happiness", yellow tents, silk shirts, tailored Italian suits and lawyers.

LOL. The issue isn't "do they mean well." The issue is the cult, once again, assuming the authority in a situation they are exploiting to sap a little more money out of their true believers.

Somewhere up the food chain lurk people who KNOW it's a scam! Bottom rung happy campers are likely sincere in the belief that "something Scientological can be done about it," but they really have no business interfering in real life crises that taxes the expertise of professionals, let alone a handful of deluded cult members who think they have all the answers.

This wouldn't be an issue IF:

    - They weren't just using this for a PR stunt.

    - They actually DID something other than Touch Assists.

    - They did more than just pick up a tar ball or two and say "Look at us! We helped! Show this all over the world!"

    - They didn't use any help they did do at the End of the Year Party with DM giving out his delusional diatribe.

    - They had a better track history when it came to helping people.
  39. Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

Just be sure and remember there is a difference between the actions and intentions of Scientology as a whole, leaders of Scientology, current and former, and the actions and intentions of individual Scientologists.

It is important to remember that most Scientologists really feel they are working to help people. They may not even be aware of any other possible motives.
  40. Paroxetine Samurai Moderator

Re: Scientology WILL solve the Gulf Oil Spill!!

That is very true, otherwise it is just plain Tinfoil to say "All Scientologists helping are evil".

My issue hasn't been with individual Scilons. They may or may not be motivated to help because is the right thing to do. My concern is that the higher ups in the chain that were not there at all will use any help a Scilon does as a means to KSW, even if the individual ones that were there were not motivated by that. I think that is the main reason we are having this discussion here. If not, that is my reason alone.
