The petition on the wiki looks mostly okay except for this, "and for a comprehensive police investigation ", this has been changed substantially from what I originally posted and this is why I take grievance to the change:

In Australia the police and the director of public prosecutions are largely autonomous, they act without direction or fear from the senate. The point of a petition, according to the senate guidelines, is to request an action from the senate. They cannot begin a police investigation, all they can do is refer matters to police, which was the substance of my initial petition

    Following the guidelines here
    http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/pubs/guides/briefno21.pdf
    And using the wiki, here
OZ Senate Petition - Why We Protest Wiki

I put together a quick and dirty petition form that can be used worldwide. You can print off multiple copies and get 10 signatures per page with it (makes for easy counting). Pop them on a clipboard and you're ready to go. Here's what it looks like

Here's the link to the pdf

Suggest you include a flyer of some sort in case people want to read more about it at home and read Xenophon's speech for themselves. URL for the speech is this one

HIS ACTUAL NAME IS XENOPHON, NOT XENUPHON!!!

Don't print petitions with the senator's name spelled wrong, seriously you guys.

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

I would have to say no. Sorry. I think the idea is that they will report global protests were held THIS WEEKEND in support of Sen. Xenophon's call for....etc.

The scilons would just start yelling that we lied and didn't have a protest there that day, blah blah blah.

Anyway, you all are rocking it out. Thank you so much!

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

    Excellent.

Now what about a cover page for the petition where the name of the city can be added so that Senator Xenophon, etc. know that these are coming from different places around the world?

    Make it so.

    Thanks.

k well that's already on there. see the part that says...

I affirm my support of the above from ___________________ in ___________________ on this day the _________ of November, 2009.

...just make sure you write in ink the city/country/date on every page and you're good to go. i added the bit at the bottom (page ___ of ___) so that the receiver in australia knows how many pages you're faxing/emailing.

so, if you get 30 signatures then you'll have 3 pages (1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3 - you get the idea).

a flyer like the one zhent was working on in the other thread could be handed out so people could research this whole thing further when they get home. make sure it has a few choice quotes and some info so they can be informed on the spot too - they may be hesitant to sign at first.

has anybody found a fax number btw? or if scanning and emailing is possible?

[mod]_Bruce_ is passionate, but wrong in this instance. The Senate of the Australian Parliament has a President. The Australian government, of course, is not the Senate. It is led by the Prime Minister, who is also a member of the House of Representatives. But this petition is going to the Senate, and it's President.[/mod]

What are you doing, you retard?! AUSTRALIA DOES NOT HAVE A PRESIDENT

    FAILLLLLLLLLLLLL

    Change 'President' to 'Prime Minister'!

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

    If we all print:

NameOfCity, NamofCountry, Small Colour picture of flag

...on the top right of the document. That would probably do the job.

Also, whilst petitions in general suck balls (achieving polite indifference at best by the politicos). I reckon this one will definitely have weight, because WE KNOW FOR ABSOLUTE CERTAIN THAT A GOVERNMENT SENATOR WILL BE ABLE TO USE IT, to demonstrate that the support for this, extends waay beyond Australia.

...and it's something that we can ALL do, no matter how far from an org, or whether it's just you, yourself, and....well er...you in some cities. [i.e. you live in a city that's never been protested. Grab a couple of buddies, and bribe them with postpetition alcohol if necessary: the more sigs, the more booze! :)

With the global protests, numbers matter (flash raids clearly don't, (not that I'm looking to pick an argument). But by doing this, and getting as many signatures as possible, it'll enable Sen. X to demonstrate a level of international public support: [holding thick stack of petitions,] "...and just to add, I've received <9000 signatures from 832 cities in 15 countries from members of the public who support a Senate Enquiry. Whilst my duty is to my constituents, there are without a doubt international ramifications to this, as the same pattern of systematic criminality appears to be happening the world over." [Probably said "just a little bit better," but you get what I mean.

If every single on of us on this board, who's able to head down to their city centre either Sat or Sun, then we can definitely make it bigger than the Feb/Mar '08 protests.

    The prospect is:

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

    Anytime.

As for the petitions, we'll print off that PDF. I think it was addressing the President of the Senate. So Melbanon will use the PDF. If it's not right, I'm sorry. Leaving for our raid now.

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

Would it not be better to email them to a couple of the exes involved (avoiding a single point of failure), and have a thread where everyone who's emailed a petition can post:

etc. So that whoever's receiving can ensure that they ALL end up where they should.

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

Scanned copies should be fine, since the originals would be available for inspection and confirmation.

A petition is not a 'vote' -- it'sa show of support and indication of how a 'vote' would go it one were held. In this case Senator Xenophon is asking for petitions SPECIFICALLY as a show of support. For that reason, scanned copies should be fine.

RE: Weekend rallies, some of the Australian Embassies appear to be located in office buildings. They may not have a 'plaque' to stand in front of for a photograph. May I suggest RallyAnons make their own 'plaque' to take with them?

You could decorate something, but a simple poster stating:

    Australian Embassy
    Ambassador?
    Address
    City, State, Country

"We came to New York to support you" or something like that

Pix of Anons with signs "Support for Xenophon" sent directly to members of the Australian parliament would also be effective.

Yes, you can scan it and email it.

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

There is a big problem with the PDF wording, in that it COMBINES the Senate investigation and the Police investgation into a SINGLE investigation, conflating the role of the Senate, and possibly making the petition invalid by asking for something that cannot be asked of the Senate.

I think the most we can do is ask that the Senate acknowlege that their are allegations of crimes and that these should be investgated by the police.

    DONT USE THE PDF version!

Anyone can turn text into a signature sheet - can we get the hivemind focussed on just the text until it's right?

(also petitions - keep em short - the less for someone who might sign to read and understand, the more likely they will)

Would it be okay to tweak the wiki wording to ask the Senate to support Xenuphon's referral of the evidence to the police for investigation?

This looks better, I'd say just run with it. Just remember to make sure this statement is at the top of every page, there can't be any pages with just signatures and no statement

Re: REQUEST FROM THE AUSSIE 7 RE: GLOBAL PROTEST!! URGENT

The Prime Minister doesn't sit in the senate, its correctly addressed, there is a president of the senate.

I suggest you even listen to the start of xenophons address again, even thanks the madam deputy president.
