    Just a point of context. The 'rateable value' is not 'how much rates should be paid on the building'. It's their estimated yearly rental cost, from which rates will be calculated. Loads of other adjustment factors come into play too, based on usage and square footage.

    So, don't baaawwwww just because the scilons aren't paying £800k rates on QVS. That's just the starting point, from which the rates are worked out. These values are also worked out using a formula that is adjusted by the council every few years, so even if the value seems a bit off, that's because it may be out of date. But that doesn't matter, because all of the other local buildings will have been assessed at around the same time too, so it balances out.

    TLDR; These figures don't show the rates that should be paid on those buildings.

    Scientologists get £270,000 subsidy - Telegraph

    By Adam Lusher - Published: 10 Dec 2006

    The Scientologists' £10 million, Grade II-listed London centre would normally have incurred £343,045 in non-domestic rates; the organisation has, however, secured a £274,436 a year subsidy.

    Why did top policeman agree to appear in a film for the Scientologists? | Mail Online

    by GORDON RAYNER - Last updated 11 May 2007

    The church has also secured a discount of £281,344 in rates on its London centre, which comes out of public funds, and is now trying to avoid paying any rates at all.

    The Scientologists currently pay rates of £70,336 on their London centre, having secured mandatory relief of £281,344 on the full rates of £351,680 - a discount of 80 per cent.

    ==============

    Figures are for QVS

    Dec 2006 - £274,436 / (£343,045 - full amount)
    May 2007 - £281,34 / (£351,680 - full amount) == ONLY PAY £70,336

    [ £281,34 - £274,436 = 6.904 // £351,680 - £343,045 = 8.635 ]

    Just GUESSING here (Am sure this is easy enough to follow so far.)

    2008 £288.244 / (£351,680 - full amount)
    2009 £295.148 / (£360.315 - full amount)
    2010 £302.052 / (£368.95 - full amount)
