Picture explains it all:
Any video-tapefags have any tips on rescuing this?
Don't hide your cocaine in cassettes.
i thought the same lol!
I hear that Golden Era Productions does nice work.
Also, is it homemade porn?
keep us updated, I'm interested to know how it goes
First, DO NOT remove the screws and take the cassette apart. It is not as simple as an audio cassette. Fast-forward and rewinding the tape will make it "line up" neatly, this may help, whatever you decide to do.
Second, can you play it? I would advise converting to digital (both the tape and the VCR might not have much life left).
Can you pipe your VCR's output into an ATI All-In-Wonder video card? Their boards have dedicated chips that help with conversion, so you don't need to use your computer's CPU nearly as much. I've used one of them to do conversion on an Athlon 1800 running Windows 98. Video can be rendered as AVI files (GIANT file size) or as an MPEG (great for DVD).
If you don't want to convert it yourself, many corner video stores (if you still have them) will often do it cheaply.
Videotapes are dying. I do hope you can preserve these memories.
No, it is an old Scientology video.
That sounds like a good idea. I’ll try that.
I haven’t tried yet for fear of destroying the thing. My hope is, if possible, to get the tape demolded enough so I can get it into a digital format.
This will be my next problem.
Such things do not exist around here.
Beware of any tapes that have mold growing inside of the casing. VHS tapes can host strains of mold that are harmful and even lethal to humans. Do not attempt to clean moldy cassettes without disposable gloves and a bio mask. Better safe than sick.
Baking old tape is important: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tape_baking
Is it something that can't be found elsewhere? Hard to believe this would be the only copy of a "Scientology video".
Unless its irreplaceable, replace it.
You got a copy of the 1994 birthday game?
Is that what it is?

sexy tape has aids
can't a professional company help you with copying it over to DVD?
I agree. If you don't have experience take it to a professional.
There are plenty of professional companies; including those by mail. But the concern I would think is the material is sensitive. Call me paranoid; but I wouldn't take anything dealing with Scientology to somebody I don't know.
It isn't spooky ooga-booga, it's stupid scilon stuff. Seriously, the video shop doesn't care.
