The #OccupyWallStreet event is huge. Everybody, we need to make printable fliers of this event and spread them so that EVERYBODY may know about what is going on right now. Any graphic designers on here? I was thinking of having these key points so far...

    20,000 protestors against privatized market

We demand justice for the millions of people who have suffered at the hands of the top 400 richest Americans

These 400 Richest Americans own more wealth than 150 million combined

United we stand, and united we are victorious

I already am working with one graphic designers and there can never be too many.

Also tell me what you think about the wording and what message you think is best communicated. This is something we need to take our time with to make just right

Does WWP look like the Fifth International to you?
  3. RedMask Member

Comparatively speaking, Capitalism is way better than both Socialism and Communism. But it is still a corrupt system in which millions needlessly suffer because of a handful of leeches. Therefore, action must be taken.
  4. Anonymous Member

    What action are you proposing?

'Justice' is rather vague, as demands go.

I could be down with 'more effective regulation of the banking sector'.
  5. Anonymous Member

Or, 'higher taxes for the rich'. You'd have Warren Buffet on-side there at least.

The only viable action at this point in time is revolution. Those at the top will never change. Even if money is taken from them, they will still possess a greedy money making intellect and eventually regain power. 'Effective regulation' will never take place because regulation is bought. Both concepts of 'mixed economy' and 'Democratic socialism' are blatant lies which fool the people into a false sense of security in which those with power easily manipulate the masses

    Revolution to what? Capitalism?

"What do we want?" "Same as now"
"When do we want it?" "Now!"

    That could just work!
  8. RedMask Member

Revolution does not happen overnight but peaceful change is futile. Those with a capitalistic mindset have come into power by buying off the intellectual capacity of the previous ruling class many years ago. Our economic system is their invention. So what if we don't have all the answers right now? It is better than starving to death, isn't it? I am not personally in that situation but many people worldwide are because of the greed of our ruling class.

Your plan is to replace the existing (supposed) 'ruling class' with a new and different 'ruling class'?

So you want a revolution from capitalism to... capitalism?
  12. RedMask Member

No matter the current economic system, there will always be scope for exploitation. Some give more scope than others, but the inevitable outcome of exploitation in any economic system is revolution

Play nice, guys. The production studio is initiative-neutral territory, if you don't like the message you don't have to participate.
  15. RedMask Member

Mod, feel free to lock thread, making a new post more specifically about ideas to put on occupy wall street flier / poster
  16. WMAnon Member

Are you looking for flyers to recruit people to the cause, or to explain it?
  17. RedMask Member

To explain it primarily. If they wish to join, that is their choice
  18. WMAnon Member

Okay, can you explain for me in three sentences exactly what you want to get across? Please make sure it's factually accurate (there aren't 20,000 people protesting anything) and directly related to the actions at the protest. I'll make you up a set of quartersheets based on it. You want anonops as the more info link?

OK, my mistake. I read it wrong.... number is 2,000... Thanks for correcting me.

What I want to get across:

There are many people protesting against capitalism

    Began with 2,000 protestors–-michael-moore-at-occupywallstree/

There is good reason why they are protesting

400 Americans have more wealth than 150 million Americans combined–-michael-moore-at-occupywallstree/

Places where people can get this information
  20. WMAnon Member

What is the good reason? That's really the heart of your message here.

I have some proposed text for a flyer. I'll be interested in people's comments:

    #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet

    We demand:
    (please check as applicable)

    - Votes for Women!

    - 2-term limit for US Presidency!

    - Free and fair elections!

    - Civil rights for colored people!

    - US troops out of Vietnam!

    - Tear down capitalism and replace it with a free-market economy!

    - Greater maternal attention! Look mummy, look! LOOK! LOOK MUMMY LOOK!

we will no longer buy gas on Wednesdays, thus bringing the nation to its knees!

    #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet

WMAnon, perhaps you could work that up into a quarter-page flyer and we can see how it looks?

    Lookin' good!

Please don't edit your posts when people ask questions. I follow the alerts, so if I don't see replies I assume you haven't answered the thread yet.

I'll work up something less derpy than the sarcastic quarter sheet :)

is a less sar car stick summary of what they possibly seem to maybe perhaps want.

Based on what the OP said, I think I'm going to try for a set that explains the disparity in the distribution of wealth under the current system and how corporate personhood and other bad decisions have translated money into undue political influence (and that this is bad for democracy). It hits the economic points hard, explains why wall street is the target, and is easy to swallow.

    Some suggested graphics:

Personally I think the last one is the most appropriate, but it's up to you...

Clearly all the occupy groups need to be advertising punch and pie.

    Draft text:
  33. RedMask Member

My main concern is effectiveness. I think the posters should be both dramatic and factual so that they can hit home with a wide range of people.
  34. WMAnon Member

that doesn't help me narrow down the wording
  35. Anonymous Member

    Liking that very much.

Unfortunately I haven't heard any #OWSFags mention the corrupting influence of political contributions and 'soft money' at all.

But it's something they should be campaigning about, and as they have no clue, I have no problem with us writing their manifesto for them. Somebody needs to.
  36. WMAnon Member

I feel like it's well within the umbrella of talking points they've put out there. Corporate personhood and Citizens United, disparity of wealth, and crony capitalism all lead down the path to "rich people get more votes than you."

If someone wants to check my math, I'd appreciate it. I think I've got it worked out to the rich having 480 "votes" (in the form of available wealth for political campaigns) to every 1 the bottom 80% get.

    (43/7 = ~6; 6*80 = 480; 480/80 to 1/80)
  37. Anonymous Member

I suppose. Haven't heard anything much about campaign finance reform.

    Numbers look OK to me.
  38. WMAnon Member

Campaign finance reform never goes anywhere, I think people are done even asking for it at this point.
  39. Anonymous Member

That's what we're talking about - "money is free speech, and it can be used in unlimited quantities for political purposes" - though, right?
