Protest Music Hi chaps. As a noob, I'm still learning, so feel free to "Dome" me if this is retarded. I watched the basic protest training video, which mentions the most common music is the likes of Astley and the Fresh Prince. I was just wondering what you all thought of classical music? I'd been thinking of making a "popular" classical music CD at any rate, then wondered whether my efforts might be appreciated by others. Some examples would be... The 1812 overture (the one with the cannons firing) Carmina Burana (classic) Ride of the Valkyries Die Fledermaus (the grand music from the third Pirates of the Caribbean film) Possibly something from the Dr Who 'Music of the Spheres' (Daleks? Cybermen? Oh yes). The Ring of the Nibelung (think of the Bug Bunny opera episode) Any interest? Or am I just fooling myself?
Re: Protest Music Might be cool for a yt vid or a quick prakn skit but not as protest music. Any music thats fun or funny is prob best cuase it brings happiness and lulz
Re: Protest Music The Trans-Siberian Orchestra's version of the 1812 Overture is on the Lulz, a Corruption of LOL album. We like to play that in Winnipeg, as well as the USSR's national anthem. I dunno why, but it's a local meme.
Re: Protest Music The 1812 Overture with the cannons is by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, methinks. I have it on my protest playlist. But the rest of my playlist is filled with more fast paced, upbeat, ironic stuff. "Party Hard," Andrew W.K. "Shimmy," System of a Down "I Got Erection," Turbonegro (the German version, not the shitty English one) "Helicopter," Bloc Party "Seven Nation Army," The White Stripes "Fight For Your Right To Party," Beastie Boys and moar. And then someone else has Scientology related songs. We switch out CDs and such and continue with our lulz. Edit: Good, I was right.
Re: Protest Music Cool beans. That was just a starting place for ideas. I was picking the dramatic POW music (Wagner is good for that), but your right, upbeat stuff sounds good.
Re: Protest Music This is just a thought, but in Minnesota, we play stuff that joe public likes to dance to and draws people in. Popular classical rock, 80s, 90s, that sort of thing. Much less metal and memes, though we still definitely play memes and some epic music. Its just that its noticeably different in our protests when we play the joe public music, many more people stop to talk, we get random people joining in dancing, and everyone has a great time and gets informed. Metal drives people away in droves and memes makes people look at us like wtf (which is still ok at times)
Re: Protest Music We have a really shitty CD player, so people in the cars that go by can't really hear us, and there are NO pedestrians where we've been protesting, just hundreds of cars. But for Operation: Parti Gras, I'll probably be hijacking some jazz CDs from my mother, seeing as we'll have a ton of pedestrian traffic for the location we're using.

Re: Protest Music @Namenlos: Just play stuff. You'll figure out first-hand whether people enjoy it or not, and just add/remove stuff as you go. That's why I like our setup with the iPods, you can change it up without burning through countless cds. My parents made the mistake of letting me listen to Tom Lehrer's songs when I was five. They received a phone call the next day from my kindergarten teacher because I was singing some very strange song about how "all the white folks hate the black folks and the black folks hate the white folks . . ." (National Brotherhood Week).
Re: Protest Music I don't have an iPod, just a regular MP3 playah. Same! Except I was about...10... and got strange looks for singing "I got it from Agnes" not having a clue what I was singing XD
Re: Protest Music Is there a thread with a shit ton of lulzy music download links? Because I can't find anything other than "Revenge Of Xenu."
