Opt-in Usergroups, Return of the Dome, Better Content archival, dongs

    Hi all,

It's been a busy week here at WWP World HQ, and we have a few things to share with you that we hope will make the community even better.

Firstly, you might have noticed we've done some shuffling of the forums on the main index a bit. We're still working with the layout and trying to get the important stuff up in front of peoples eyes first. I have a few ideas in the pipeline that will hopefully allow our regular users to customize their experience a bit more to their liking as well, but that's well down the line..

We also created a new category entitled, "Cross Initiative Resources", which is just what it sounds like. Stuff that is generally helpful to WWP denizens regardless of their purpose here. Within the Production Studio subforum, we hope to have a centralized and moderated section where we attempt to archive and organize our various Original Content so that artists and shoopers don't have to reinvent the wheel each and every time. This has the potential to become an excellent resource in the long term and will hopefully provide us with the baseline needed to make future ideas easier as well.

Inside of that same category we have created yet another How To section. This is a more generic section that will cater to pretty much anyone. Rather than having to dig into the "Anon vs Sci" subforum to find a how to on making big signs, you can now go straight into this Cross Initiative Resource. Then, when you need to find a How-To on evading OSA, or Iranian police, or whatever, you can still go into the specific initiative's original area. It's an evolving process for sure, but we feel this is a step in the right direction.

As many of you know, I have been working hard to try to bring back the Thunderdome. The problem with having a NSFW area of the website is that it needs to be hidden from the general public. Why? Because google hates porn. And simply by having that stuff around, it lowers our pagerank. That does a disservice to the hard work we've all put into the research and such for the rest of the site, so the dome went to the backburner.

Well, we finally have the add-on coded for Xenforo that will enable us to allow you to opt-in to a NSFW usergroup and see the dome! In fact, it's there right now.

Simply go into your Account Preferences and down in the lower left you'll see a section entitled "Manage Optional User Groups". When you click that you will see a button to join (or leave) the NSFW group. Once you have joined it, the dome will appear to you under the Community category.

We are taking a slightly different approach to the outlook of the dome this time around, so be sure to read the Sticky down there if you choose to join. Along those same lines, if you become a member of the NSFW group you will see new posts from the dome show up in your "Latest Posts" sidebar, however the post text will be replaced with a line that simply says 'thunderdome' in red to let you know it might be nsfw.

Hope you guys enjoy the changes, and many thanks to the staff members and volunteers who stepped up to help make these things happen.

    ...also, dongs.

    Thanks D5!
Would it be possible to set the default option to opt-in so posters would have to individually choose to see the Thunderdome content?

Edit: Fuck me, sorry, I forgot that I joined last night.

It's opt in, not opt out. You have to seek it out to take part.

I have one very minor comment, nothing that has to be addressed right away. For the opt in to the Dome button, I thought it might be good to have a bit more of a description than just NSFW. That way people would know that you join the NSFW group to get access to the Thunderdome, where rules on content and conduct are far more lax. I don't know about legal stuff, but it might also be nice to have some sort of line like "by joining this group I certify that I am at least 18 years of age," given the pornographic content that is routinely posted in the dome. Like I said, this would be obviously near the bottom of the WWP "to-do" list, but I figured it's probably nothing more than changing some text and thought I'd bring it up. If this is something that would be complicated to do or if the description is intentionally vague, then please forgive my ignorance :)

None of the Community forums are visible to me when I am not logged in (as opposed to just the TD). Something up?

Love the dome! <3 Just a question though: I stumbled upon a thread containing a list on all kinds of dox from Hubbard's life some time ago, since things have been shifted around a bit I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyone have an idea where it is?
  36. Anonymous Member

Could you be a little more vague?
(there aren't, say, dozens of threads with that general description, right?)
  37. Horus Member

To be precise: The OP in that thread was a systematic literature list of Hubbard's life, from childhood to military service and on to CoS... sorry I can't be more specific, I just can't remember what the threads name was... :S

I get some good hits when I search the forums with "scientology" and "leaks" as keywords.
