Re ^ This. To me it seems we have the "relevant" docs in terms of what is really relevant here is the policies of $cilontololligy are toward various types of medical interventions involving pharmaceuticals and how that is translated into real life action when taken literally. We've got all the docs we need to offer a far more reasonable interpretation of known / reported facts than "once did Depakote, near lost his liver, has a bashed in skull/broken nose maybe, oops no died in father's arms, no wait.. kiss of life.. oh no, wait! ad nauseum.

Is this making a point? I think so. Point is that the dox we require to hammer home the POINT is that these people say they believe in ______, the story isn't consistent with itself OR the beliefs, maybe there's really good reason to call for investigation by authorities even though nao the evidence has been incinerated.

You're implying the drawing of conclusions. The reality is the offering of a narrative that fits the known facts, nothing moar.

    Read it.

    My thoughts:

The subject of our press here shouldn't be defending the use of medication.

The subject should be the absurd notion that individuals suffering from severe disorders are 'degraded beings'. Simply stating facts about CoS doctrine is far less vulnerable to criticism. It keeps the release further away from the quagmire of 'are specific drugs okay or not' which starts to become a slippery slope.

following this logic, the release should firstly establish our sympathy in Travolta's alleged choice to medicate his child. Demonstrate that the alternative presented by COS is absurd by quoting doctrine that shows that CoS consider these conditions 'degraded' or deny their medical nature or existence altogether.

The idea should be that scientologists who want to treat loved ones afflicted by disorders of this nature have no choice but to reject the absurd notion that psychiatric and nuerological disorders are properities of a 'degraded being'.

maybe ill write it up myself and tell me what you think.

tldr: what you wrote isn't bad, its just not what we should be talking about.

The idea of a 'degraded being' needs to be blown open and exposed here.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

are you trying to write a haiku or something?

anyway, you're right that dox are required for any worthwhile media release, and if the subject of this release is exposing the CoS doctrine of blaming the victim and denying the existence of psychological and neurological disorders we can provide dox. We cannot provide dox about the efficacy of medication. If we try we look retarded in at least two ways. Stick to doxxing cos doctrine otherwise, I'd say this draft shouldnt leave this thread.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

Doesn't mention that Travolta is a Scientologist.

Why does "Depakote" suddenly appear in this press release? Also, spell out "CCHR" = "Citizens' Commission on Human Rights". Although Narconon claims a success rate of over 70%, no verifiable evidence for this appears to have been published by the organization, and independent researchers have found considerably lower rates — at least one website critical of Narconon claims that the rates were as low as 6.6% in the case of a Swedish research study. Experts challenge claims of Scientology's sweat-it-out treatment for addicts UTVÄRDERINGEN AV NARCONON DEL 1

Thats all I gots ta say 'bout dat.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

    My edits (still rough, BTW):

Some things were wordy, some things were unnecessary (less is more to the press), and I don't think we should send people to scilon links, period. Also some things needed more dox, and those have blank spots to add those links.
  12. Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

I was going to say NO PRESS RELEASE but after reading what you all have come up with I'm starting to get more comfortable with it. Really good job so far.

Please make it clear that we are not accusing the Travoltas of doing anything wrong. In fact they reportedly treated Jett with Depakote for several years (until he developed tolerance to it). So it seems they were willing to use anti-seizure medication, defying Scientology doctrine because they cared about their son's health.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

based on the medical claims / medical practices related teachings i'm researching in this thread
    http://forums.whyweprotest.net/7-general-discussion/medical-claims-scientology-35541/

There's fine hair splitting technicality, that opens big door for scilon dbl speak lies, where i think we need to be especially carefully of wording like this:

based on the medical related HCOBs i've been reading (and quoted in above thread)

their policies clearly state that "scientology grades" are strictly for healing spirit, where as "dianetics processing" is for curing physical probs, medical issues and everything else under the sun. and speciifcally state the 2 are differnet, scientology != dianetics and dianetics != scientology.

so they can deny a statement about "scientology beliefs anti-medicine" (or as tommy davis said "scienotology does address the physical") cuz technically its defined in writing as not scientology belies, strictly dianetics processes and in their fk'd up minds - the two things are separate.

so to be uber accurate we should avoid generically saying "scientology beliefs state suchnsuch" in this context. better way to phrase it would be:

    or

aside from this hair splitting technicality, it reads great!

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

I suggest that we tattoo and / or carve our press release on Bluebell's buttocks, and then eject her from a rapidly moving vehicle outside either:

    1. A prominent TV station
    2. A newspaper office
    3. Somewhere else of importance

This approach always seems to work well in movies (and she's expendable!)

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

Or better yet, hand-deliver the thing to your local newspaper? In a mask if applicable.

Thanks for catching the small stuff. BTW I like how the cult regards Dianetics as its "bible" privately, but then calls it a 'science' for outsiders and comments pages...

Lets aim to get this out by noon Wednesday. Is everyone good with that deadline?

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

note - the proper official name for auditing that addresses physical probs is "Standard Dianetics"

if your not gonna use the proper name, i dont think should have quotes.

There is a collection of good referenced material in here to borrow:

It's worth whoever's looking after the current press release master copy to skim it for any new key points or more robust references emerging.

I need to go back to class (snuck on on a school computer), but if it still isn't out by the time I get back, I'll gladly help. Godspeed, Anon.

Also, I'd like send a special shout-out to Tommy Davis, whose fifty-caliber footbullet press release is about to blow up in his face. Shoulda picked your words more carefully, Tommy! :D

What is it with this cult and its contradictory statements? As much as I'd like to put it in, I feel that it would only confuse readers.

Sorry I've been late to the party, but hunger struck (OM NOM NOM).

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

Giving it a second go-around perhaps this paragraph should be broken up into two paragraphs.

One thing I remember from my time proofing on a newspaper is the importance of very short paragraphs. Also the "However" just stands there. Perhaps changing it to "However in doing so," would take care of this problem. Any other ideas on how to get rid of this hanging word are welcome.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

    "John, however, would be..."
"In doing so, John would be..."

IDK. I kinda like having that in one paragraph. The section after the second sentence is kind of the "punch line" that the first two statements are leading up to.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

    Better safe than sorry.

I think it's ready. The Grammar Nazi couldn't find anything wrong with it, and neither could the spelling police.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

I would strongly recommend referencing the 'degraded being' claim.

Reference [5] URL seems broken. Is the ordinance violation directly related to the health hazard of niacin? If not I would zap that sentence.
  34. dwest Member

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

Agreed. Newspapers often will only print two or three sentences per paragraph though, which is why I recommended it should be broken up.

I also got a 404 on that link as well. Also found another news link on the closure: City pulls plug on Second Chance

/r/ reference for Scientology phrase 'degraded being' associated with disabilities.

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

Don't know how I missed this but Alberquerqie should be spelled Albuquerque.
  38. terryeo2 Member

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

I'm surprised I missed that too.

Also, links may be broken if drafts get posted with link parsing enabled. For some reason parts of URLs are cut off when that happens, so please turn OFF link parsing when posting drafts of the PR.

I believe 'degraded being' was in Science of Survival, but was meant more as an inferred conclusion based on the facts in the release.
  39. Mutante Member

Re: It cannot be ignored, we need a press release, now.

    Ok fellow 'degraded beings'

Scientology Ethics Conditions in ascending order from scum to majesty (my words)
Degraded Being; Treason; Enemy; Doubt; Liability; Non-existence; Danger; Emergency; Normal Operation; Affluence; Power.

I don't know which Hubbard book contains the definitions of these ethics conditions. The Basics?

I still can't link disabilities to this lowest ethics condition.

I don't mean to hold up the issuing of this press release since the hivemind wants to publish it, but I do think getting almost the most sensational sentence in the whole thing referenced would be a good idea.
