This thread is for news updates only please.

When posting news, please consider first

    1) Is there already a thread on the news story - any discussion and minor updates should go there.

    2) Does it deserve it's own thread - if so, and there isn't one already, please start one with a link to the source.

    3) Is it from twitter - please use the tweets thread if there is not a thread for the news item.

Discussion posts in this thread might be moved out - if an update generates discussion if probably deserves it's own thread.

Thank you for helping us keep the news forums useful and usable for all visitors.

Thanks to those sorting out my date fail - I moved the posts to off-topic to keep this discussion free (at least to start with)
  2. SMALL ALERT!!

on twitter it appears that either a true iranian gov't agent (or just some stupid jackass) has reared it's head and is "spamming" (so to speak) a number of important twitter sites with a lot basically incoherent taunting messages ...

    {its address is ...... @Vagheeiat }

either way; gov't agent or stupid wannabe civilian jackhole, let see if there is something that can be done to drive this shit out of the system and if he is a gov't agent (in the manner of maxwell smart :p ) twit his ass back and tell em what you really think....:D

    E-mail from Theran Hospital

    Date: Wednesday 24th June 2009

The following email in Farsi we received today (Wednesday 24th june). It is written by a doctor from Rasul Akram hospital in Tehran who says that some people were killed not only by one bullet as they found two or three bullets in some bodies, close to one another, showing that shooters used barrage shooting against people and not only a single shot. A 68 year old man had 3 bullets in his body, two on his left shoulder and one in the left side of his stomach. The doctors of the Rasul Akramhospital say they had been faced with 38 people killed during last weeks protests. Apparently, police took the corpse of the dead bodies out from the hospital and carried them away by truck. Most of their families still do not know if their children have been killed. Besides, among the corpse there were some 15, 16 years old kids.

According to the email, the crew of the hospital protested in the street next to the hospital giving out the information about the violence to the people. The photos attached are from this demonstration which appears to have taken place earlier this week.

    Regards
    -Where s my vote?

  5. Basij using gun to shoot at people

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkNWV3BnpRI&feature=channel_page]YouTube - Latest news from Al Jazeera's Iran desk - 0700GMT 25 Jun 09[/ame]
  6. I find this particularly interesting because anyone who has ever fired a gun knows that to get a close grouping (bullets hitting close to each other on the target), you need to be an excellent shot. Now, if I am not mistaken, these Basiji are just militia (weekend warriors). But likewise, Ahmadinejad has stepped up Basiji training and drills (http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/world/iran/basij.htm) in preparation for exactly this moment. The Basiji have gone from being a militia morality police to being full time soldiers OR there are more than just Basiji out there shooting (perhaps IRG?) OR just the amount of shots being fired has led to many bullets piercing the same person.

I personally think there is more than just Basiji out there fighting now. I think they have actual IRG snipers. Any thoughts?
  7. Well, while there were reports that the police were nicer now, I'm sure there might be a few members who are sympathetic to Ahmadinijad and helped out with their police training. IRG is also a likelihood.
  8. Just an interesting comment from an Iranian blogger who is very trustworthy:

""Green Revolution" is a contradiction in terms because green is the color of Islam, and the IRI IS an Islamic state. This label is a conscious attempt of right wing trends within opposition, mainly abroad, and various western govts to stop the actual revolution against the whole IRI. The uprising in Iran, and IN IRAN, hardly uses the green color anymore. That phase, i.e. anti-fraud movement, is way past."
  9. Top cleric warns unrest may uproot Iran govt

My impression from all media-coverage is that much is already won by the protesters.
They talk about big, seismic change in big media - and there are rifts in all direction - like an earthquake.
This regim is seriously wounded and will fall eventually - and even if it wont fall in the nearest weeks - they are seriously wounded.
Keep protesting in all forms(not necesseraly in the streets), strike, small sabotage and civil obediance - and keep on interacting globally - and the regim will be weakend day by day and ultimately will fall.
Music might be a powerful weapon as the regime hates it...

Most important is to be organized and have a good command and communication.
If this not is the case for now thats the first most important fix on the list.
Have short tactics and long strategies!(the world could close iran if it wanted with hard economic sanctions)
    Change position after circumstances!
With that foundation the regime(which is now isolated more than ever) will fall!

After the fall a democratic Iran would have much good will in the world - and have a very good position for the future.

Top cleric warns unrest may uproot Iran govt
    TEHRAN (Al Arabiya, Agencies)

Turmoil continued in Iran on Thursday as a top cleric warned the Islamic Republic's rulers that their continued suppression of opposition protests could destabilize the government and defeated reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi said he was determined to continue fighting against "major" election rigging.

In the harshest criticism yet from an Iranian cleric, Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, said: "If Iranians cannot talk about their legitimate rights at peaceful gatherings and are instead suppressed, complexities will build up which could possibly uproot the foundations of the government, no matter how powerful."

Montazeri, once tipped as a possible successor to revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, also called for an "impartial" committee to be set up to resolve the worst crisis since the 1979 that ousted the U.S.-backed Shah.

I'm sure any western govt would be delighted at the idea of a revolution against the whole IRI. The only reason they are using it is same reasons that Obama is being cautious in his praise of the revolution, and respect for the tactics of the revolution. I have been assuming for quite some time that the reason for continuing to use green was similar to a far left wing American supporting Obama, because he knows nobody farther left is electable. As an outsider I will concede that I may not know what I am talking about, but my take is that, it would be wise to be very careful to not make this too explicit, because you need as broad a support base as possible.

  12. Does anyone knows why everything is so quiet?
  13. There's a rumor that ALL internet traffic in Iran has been cut off.

If that's the case, we should start brainstorming a a way to return the tubes back to Iran.
  14. It's past mid night in Iran. Most are in bed. That's why it's quite. But even that, it doesn't mean anything. This will take some time. 79 revolution took a year.
Don't lose hope even if nothing goes on in a day or two. Plans are being made.
This is not something that will be forgotten just like that.

Stay positive. Give the people hope and energy.
  15. shootings?

Many reports indicate the presence of Hezbollah militants among the crackdown forces (people in confrontations reported that man in military clothing seems unresponsive to farsi and if they are deaf or mute with some apparently saying words that are not in farsi but some sort of arab).

If Hezbollah goons have been hired to shoot people, which they will do much easier than an Iranian soldier would, they can do such precise shoots given they uncannely staggered the Israeli might with an unpreceded vehicle KO and sniping guerrila tactics.

Is not uncommon for foreing fighters to be used in fucking up people of your own country, no one doubs these Saudi punks in Pakistan don`t give a shit about the Pashtun women they rape and kill.

Same goes for the Lebanese punks doing shit to Iranians.

    CURSE THOSE BASTARDS!

In the interest of maintaining the integrity of news on this site, I would encourage people who are sourcing news to register. I get skeptical when such incendiary remarks, e.g. "women being raped" and "people afraid to drink the water", are made anonymously with no source referenced.

    A compromise?

    A Runnoff Election

Any ideas on what would happen then? If Ahmadinajad won? If Masouvi won?
  20. Anyway Iran Gvt is out. His voice for "civil" nuclear (everybody knows what those evils want to do...) or against jews in the world will be now egual to zero....

    That's good
  21. You should be pleased with the number who didn't attend. It's only been 2 weeks and look how many didn't attend. Things are looking great so far. Stay positive.
  22. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

From Europe, all what we hear from 30 years fom Iran would be funny if it wasn't so sad....
  23. Go green traitors!

  24. Green revolution ?

How s that possible to act for a green revolution since Iran is under the full dictature of green revolution ?

This is a crual question, isn't it?
  25. This means that the pictures and the outcry of the people in the world not the goverments are working. Even if silence comes from Iran because the net has been cut from Iran happens as *i think it has now* means that this site and other sites need to keep pushing the information so people continue to pull there money! Anyone remember one of the main reasons the USSR went down. This was a huge part of it!

  26. Sodomy: does Islam accepts that ?

I just have sawn on a french television testimonies of what happens in the last days in the case of the students od Tehran University: the Iranian Police even sodomy them and act with them as animals. Think about that. This regime is fully out and anyone knows how horrible they are. This regime is more than criminal, because they use a religion to commit.
  27. 670 rocked

    Stupidity removed.
  28. Today in Iranian parliament: ... :(

He even gets help from the speaker of the parliament.(?)

  29. Weak. I didn't get it either.
  30. Flame/Troll removed.
  31. HEY HEY, news please

  34. Calling each other names and make fun of peoples parents has nothing to do with freedom of speech. This site is made to support people who are dieing to get freedom of speech and you lot go about... Some respect would be in place. This site is about helping out, thats what it is. Don't fuck up with a "ohh, but freedom of speech means that I can call your mother whatever I want". It's not. That is harassment and nothing else.

Now, STOP BEING SO DAMN DISRESPECTFUL!!!
