not going to be able to donate much, as I have no income and just donated most of what I could to ED.

But I'll try to send $20 to you guys, provided you stop all the bitching and get organized. I'll encourage others to do the same. Good luck.

I agree that all talk should not be in the open. But at some point, anons that are going to be there but are not in SD should get to put their $.02 in as far as planning and participating.

But I feel trepidacious about something like "everything else is being handled". Does that mean I should not worry my pretty little head? That rarely works out for me.

I am on the Marcab Invasion site on the forums:
    Anonymous Comics - Portal

I can see there are more recent posts than the 2 on this page with a scrolling list of some of them on the left side of the frame, but where is the forum topic list itself?

    Thanks

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

    here: Anonymous Comics

Maybe that "portal" page should be skipped, and the forum link point to the address I posted here?

    Thanks.

I had hit the link to the Marcab Invasion donation page...and the link to the forums on that page led me to the forum link I had.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Okay, this is my thought compilation from the responses so:

think outside the box (define box, then do something else)
be viral (connected random stuff spread wide, not allowed inside)
flyers will get drowned in a flood of other flyers
masks will only work for large groups, as costumes and masks will
    be quite common

So as I understand it, inside is only YouFoundTheComic and Anon wear,
    but no action.

Outside is flyers and party hard. Maybe you can mock picket the convention.
Like using signs that read: "Comics are for Adults", "Adults reading Comics
are immature", "V for Vendetta Comics turn the youth into criminals"
"More text, Less images in Comics" "Comics are too graphic" etc.
    (think Ned Flanders, maybe)

Or maybe some silly fearmongering protest shit, with signs like
"The end is near. Get in line", "Xenu is coming", "Hail Xenu"
"Repent, or Xenu will eat your shorts". "Comics cause global
    warming", "Reading Comics makes impotent"

Just make it obvious that you are actually comic fans yourself and get the
Comic-Cons approval beforehand. Is there political controversy regarding comics in the US that can be exploited? Has there ever been censorship imposed on a comic? Is there any reason for comic fans to be enraged about the things we are
    concerned with?

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

I like the cut of your jib, V.

You won't need to get permission from Comic Con for a mock protest outside the convention grounds though.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Maybe I'm missing where it would have it on the site, but is the first issue of the comic finished yet? Honestly, I think that would be a far better way to spend time and money than the now old flier/YFTC trick. That stuff works great in most raids, old or not, but ComicCon is a center of creativity and imagination, and a one page ad is just going to be glossed over, maybe a chuckle or two, couple requests for autographs from people to Anons, but it's not going to have that much of an impact. As the OP said, these are internet savvy people who are already pretty much aware of Scientology's evil, Cobra-like nature.

But imagine Issue #0.5 on that freebie table instead. Even if you only have a few hundred copies of it in black and white Kinko's style similar to the first couple issues of "I, Lusiphur" that would grab FAR more attention than a one page ad in a program guide.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Good point, which is why we're aiming to publish an issue at a Japanese convention, but we probably won't be ready by SD Comic Con.

Here's a mission you can do online: Recruit more artists and writers. Find possibly allied artists through art sharing sites and in your circle of friends, contact them through personal message and email and ask if they want to contribute. If they don't want to identify themselves by their usual names, they can submit their work under a new name.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Not true. I stood outside in a Scientology Kills T-shirt and I assure you, people did not ignore us.
You wouldn't know, of course, not being there, but we passed out more fliers outside ComiCon than nearly any other time, Pride Parade excepted.

We were doing this for four years before Anonymous came on the scene, and considered it quite successful.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

    Things I like:

All of the above. People going "that's not how you reach people" need to STFU because if it didn't work, it wouldn't be a tried and true staple. Stuff on the "freebie table" works because people do take it, they do look at it, and while it may not get much thought, it gets SOME.

People wearing Anon suits and walking around in a group of 3-5, looking all badass and professional? Major fucking win because its just so damn cool, you get a lot of people who a) recognize Anonymous and get inspired by it b) do picture taking, thus creating more attention whoring c) don't recognize Anonymous and ask the questions that start the dialogue.

Flyering outside is win because IT FUCKING WORKS. Barb said it herself, people take the flyers and read them. OSA is all on stats and knowing we're just flooding these people with entheta will enturbulate their little brains into jelly. That's always a win. Not to mention its a talking point for the Anons INSIDE to say "oh hey, did you get a flyer? They're free!/Oh hey, you got a flyer! Cool!". Bonus points if San Diego follows through on the implied task of having flyers tie in to "look for our freebie stuff/people inside".

Mock protest combined with the flyering draws attention and it can give people a laugh. The more over the top you make it, the better, because it adds lulz to what is otherwise a srs bsns thing.

Also, party hard mass march through Gaslamp. This is the staple of San Diego cell's raids. A line of people with lulzblasters, signs, flyers, masks, and full getup just parading through the heart of downtown RIGHT NEXT TO THE CONVENTION CENTER. Get the locals, get the people visiting, get EVERYONE!! Now with extra Anonymous from all over to make it HUGE SUCCESS!!

Saying something is a bad idea and contributing nothing of your own makes you less than useless.

P.S. I miss my San Diego Anons and wish I could be there for the Con!

What happened to the little laffy comic? It's a comic convention after all.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Here's why we're not distributing a test issue at the con:
We're not a vendor, which means we can't sell it even at cost, which means we'd have to pay for the printing all by ourselves.
  26. Anonymous Member

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Plus we don't actually have much (if any) decent material either.

In fact, OT9 and OT10 will probably be released before we print our first issue ;)

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

This. So please to be telling your artist friends and aquaintances (online and offline) about it. I just bought a couple of ads for it at SomethingAwful.

I've seen thinner magazines published than we have now, but we need more.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Sell a test issue? Nah, just hand out the little laffy thing as a free comic.

Maybe I can get someone to do some pencil work. What's the deadline?

I take it you planned on making a collection of short stories?
    Why not ask the community?

Point was that they'd have to pay the costs out of their own pockets, wouldn't be able to even make any of it back.

Re: MARCAB INVASION II - SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2009

Especially if it's moar then just 2 people that showed up at the night raid last year. Around the convention or the gaslamp area... (tons of bars and shit which had tons of people from the con and local drunk women complaining about it)
Also yes, the SD org is lame as fuck.

Hopefully AO will not find his way down here and into the faptent.

When I was there, it was a hand full of us standing outside passing cards out. It didn't live up to the hype. At least it needs moar lulz and /b/lackups.

Encouraging the public to make fun of Galaxy Press is a good start.
