Anyone else following the Japanese earthquake disaster? Serious shit regarding their nuclear power plants. :/
Yeah, over 300 dead so far... Regarding nuclear power plants, last I heard there was a coolant failure in one of them but no confirmed radiant leaks. An emergency situation was announced as a precautionary measure though. Thankfully I'm pretty sure none of my Japanese relatives live in the affected area >_<

The new 6.6 earthquake/aftershock in Central Japan has apparently made things worse for the plants. The government is currently debating whether to release some nuclear vapour to try and reduce the building pressure in the plants.

Yeah true enough... Well just got off the phone with my dad, apparently all my relatives in Japan are all fine so yay! From the sounds of things the aftershocks are consistently moving down the coast of Japan Southwards every 2 hours which is odd...
If anything has changed since 5pm our time, ignore the following: There was a failure with the cooling system in one of the plants, and Japanese law states that if this happens, a state of emergency must be declared as a precaution. As of 5pm, it was all okay, back up systems in place, and 3000ish people that lived nearby evacuated as a precautionary measure. EDIT: Just saw the link. Disregard everything I just said.
What you said was correct, though. Although I've heard from the BBC that a plant has reported a small leak, overall there's been nothing beside rising pressure.
