As it was mentioned before, there is one org in Budapest and several org several major Hungarian cities such as Szekesfehervar, Nyreghaza, Miskolc, Szeged and Sopron. From what I understand Scientology's front groups are scattered throughout the balkans in Bulgarian, Albania, Croatia, Serbia, to name a few. By the way, I grew up on zelnik, pupcha bread and baklava.

If you had a chance to pass by the bookstore Icon (Ikona) in Skopje’s downtown, you must have been stopped by 20 year old guys and girls, with surveys in their hands. They are representatives, recruiters for prospect members of Scientology, a religion whose members are the famous actors like Tom Cruise and John Travolta. In order for Macedonians to familiarize themselves better with this self-help study, Forum (the news media) did interview with Stefan Kostarov, founder and Executive Director of Hubbard Center of Dianetics and Scientology. Q: Since when is Scientology present in Macedonia? A: Since 1999. From 11th of January 1999 is formed Hubbard Center in Macedonia. We exist here for 10 years. Q: How many Scienotlogists are members of Macedonian organization (Hubbard Center in Macedonia)? A: That is a tough question. We don’t keep evidence on how much Scientologists are in this state, but we keep evidence of how many people came into the Center and bought a book, did a course, or shown interest of any kind, did any service in the Center. Q: What si that number? A: Around 7000 people in a period of 10 years of our existence. Q: In what other cities in Macedonia a Hubbard Center exists, except in Skopje? A: A center exists also in Bitola. Q: USA has John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Kirstie Allie. Does Macedonia have any famous people that are Scienotlogists? A: The most famous is Moni Damevski, the son of Darko Damevski (famous deceased actor). He brought the book Dianetics in Macedonia in 1992-1993 from USA. Q: what is Dianetics? A: It is a modern science of mental health. It is a self-help book, how to help ourselves. Q: How long does it take to finish a course as a member in the Center? For a newbie starting from zero up to the completion of the course? A: The course last differently, depending on the frequency of going to classes. It is not that kind of course. Everyone studies differently. If the member comes continuously, he can finish the course in 1-2 week. Q: From what age are the people doing the courses in Macedonia? A: From teenagers to retirees. But, generally the age is about 30-40 years old. Q: What does the course consist of? A: the courses are different. They are for improving life in every aspect. Everyone needs some change in their life. For one is to operate better at work, other to communicate better, to have better understanding, to be better with the family, different kinds of courses exist. Q: What types of moral standards, or norms does Scienotlogy preach about? A: That what you don’t want to be done to you, don’t do to others. In Scientology we have very high ethical standards and conduct ourselves on these high ethical principles. You cant be frauded by someone who is a true scientologist. We believe that ethics is the same as survival. People that are unethical are lessening their survival. A man who is not honest before himself or society, has to hide. A person who doesn’t have his ethics in, is lessening his space for operating. Q: Do we in Macedonia have the Program for going drug free established, the one that is popular in the West? A: Yes, it is established in Macedonia, but it is not connected with our Center. It is located in Konopishte near the city Kavadarci. Q: Does the person who went through the courses, celebrate the same religious holydays (Christmas, Easter) as non Scienotlogists? A: if they are Christians, yes they do celebrate these, if Muslims they celebrate their Ramadan etc. Scientology doesn’t get into the personal religious conviction of people coming here. We don’t mess with God. Q: I noticed these machines called E-meters. What do they serve for and how do they operate? A: The E-meter is a tool which the Auditor uses. Auditor is a trained person, to a very specific scientology processes, in order to do a form of consultancy with the person that needs some help. The emeter as a tool helps him to more easily locate all those moments of stress in the person who holds the electrodes, to talk easier about them and to help to the recipient. Q: what is an engram? A: For that it would be best that you read the Dianetics book. In short it is a record. From the latin word engrave which means to write down. It is a moment of physical pain, during injury, a blow or unconsciousness. Everything that happens during this period is recorded in the subconscious level in the mind. It can be a moment of great pain, partial unconsciousness, total unconsciousness for example under total anesthesia when the surgeon cuts you with the scalpel. So everything happening in between is recorded in the subconscious part of the mind. Q: It is well known that Scientology is against the study and practice of psychiatry, medicaments, antidepressants. Why is that? A: all medicaments, antidepressants are not actually treating the source, but the consequences. For a depressed person with troubles in life, the worst thing is for him to take antidepressants as Xelex or Zoloft to suppress the problem. The problem doesn’t go away when ignored, but when you see it. Q:Yes, but anyhow, you cant buy antidepressants in a pharmacy. You need a prescription from a psych, so the depressed person is not only taking a pill but is also working in a therapy with the psych. A: The people who prescribe those are the psychs, and because these are toxic, scientology considers that they cause more harm then good for the people. The ones prescribing them are also doing harm. They only hide the problems. Q: are all pills forbidden? A: No, not all. When a person is sick we first say, go t doctor. But antidepressants and the psychs who allegedly treat the mind are actually not having a clue of what the mind is. Q: what about physical pain? For example the ones with cancer? A: Well people with cancer are people with cancer. And chemotherapy is chemo therapy. For now it is the only cure which can help, not everyone. Depending on the stage of the cancer. On some people it cant help. If the cancer is discovered early, me as scientologist would say that he should immediately go to doctor, not to waste time and come to a stage which is not treatable. Q: In the West there were some controversies about the silent birth. What is it all about? A: The silent birth is connected with the engram. …When a woman gives birth it is ideal to be silent. And not just in Scienotlogy, many medical institutions in the world practice not to have radio on, the doctors are not speaking, to be quiet in the operation room. Because while unconscious any noise would harm the person and the baby. The woman giving birth is not forbidden to talk, for havens sake, she is in big pain, she will scream. But in overall it should be silent, because when in pain engrams record and also the words spoken are recorded in the subconsciousness and can become a problem later on in life. Q: what stage in scientology study is Clear? A: A Clear is a person that doesn’t have his own subconscious mind, which we call reactive mind. It is relative how much time it takes to become a clear. For someone 200-300 hours, for someone 500-600 hours to clear the engrams of their reactive mind. Q: what are the beliefs of scientologists on hell, heaven, on life after death? A: Scienotlogists know they are spiritual beings, and that in this moment they have the bodies they have. Bodies which you and I can see. After death of the body comes a new stage of new life. You go in a new body. There is no life after death as in the Christian religion. We don’t believe in Heaven or Hell. Q: So actually it is a form of reincarnation? A: Reincarnation is a rough word. We take on a new body. You are a spiritual being. When the body dies, you as spiritual being are choosing new body. Q: What is scientology attitude regarding homosexuality? A: The homosexuality is aberration. It is something which is not natural. Q: What does Operating thetan mean? A: It is a stage after Clear, so it is a person with much higher awareness level.
