I opted out of my surgical mask because it had too much pocket lint going on in it. Signs do a great job in hiding that part of the face anyway, as evidenced in that pic.

Great raid last night, faggots. Let's do this again at their next fail event.

Obviously, events are the way to go. They brought out every handler we've had, with the exception of Asian Lady (Dan Murnan was inside, doing OSA work.) Also, Andy and Frank from HGB came out to play (Frank was looking sharp, we suggested that he give Jeff Farrow, aka America's Favorite Coward, a makeover), also Odo from PAC Base decided to show off his manly manbeard. Laurie Burpee wouldn't take us up on our invitation to join us on the skybridge, even when we offered to charge her money to cross it.

I wonder if they savored walking across the skybridge, as it was a) free and b) a bridge they'll reach the end of.

Did the Scilons have the entire Westin booked? Imagine his shock and surprise when he finds out that he's just citizen-arrested a paying guest of the hotel with a room and he's just stuck his balls between the hammer and the anvil...

Oh yeah: Reminder that security must be licensed in the state of California. Some of their goons at Gold are, but I'll bet that the flunkies at these events aren't likely to.

The ballroom seemed to be able to hold thousands. What's the head count? I feel really sorry for the scilons who had to skip the party to babysit you guys.

We dined at The Brewery on the 4th floor of the hotel. There were at least 10 tired, hungry protesters. After singing Happy Birthday to Mark and passing around his slab of birthday cake, "Samuel", the abusive Westin security guard came to the table and told us we all had to leave the restaurant.

I learned that the Scilons had notified hotel management that the Dianetics event was concluding and they didn't want the attendees running into the dangerous SPs in the hotel. While we were getting ready to pay our bill, we learned that a special someone in our group had paid the bill for all of us. I'd be Glib if I told you who.

That special someone brightened our evening.

It's tough to say exactly how many there were in attendance, but here are a couple of really ROUGH statistics - FWIW. A sample poll among those picketing the entrance to the parking structure puts the number of publics arriving at between 100-200. Based on Smurf's film capture of arriving SO buses, those forced to act as seat fillers probably number between 300-400. Remember, these are rough numbers. Although the hall they rented is rumored to fit thousands, their absolute best case scenario was 700-800 people. And that's being generous.

Some delightful pics from the protest!

It was really successful. The public could not get in without seeing us as we were at several points at the same time. What I noticed by the entrance to the parking lot (with their crappy hard to read signs) was that the handlers seemed to know the people coming in. Which makes me feel that this was a small insular group of regulars. I have no idea if they gained any doubt from seeing that scientology could not "handle" us, and the words of protesters, but I hope so.

This was a big thing for them...and as mentioned earlier, all our regular handlers had to spend their Saturday hanging around us, and failing to make us go away. And no police came to rescue them from our enturbulation.

There is only ONE comment that may be nasty...unless you think mentioning that in one pic it looks a little crowded a nasty comment.

But that handler just does what he is told at every protest he is forced to go to. Usually he just films us with a camera and does not interact. And he USUALLY looks glum and resigned to his fate.

Re: Civil Rights & Criminal Law Violations-May 23, 2009-Westin Bonaventure

    Ladies and Gentlemen:
On May 23, 2009 the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles participated with the Church of Scientology (see Operation Clambake - The Inner Secrets Of Scientology) in celebrating the first publication of Dianetics in 1950. The Church of Scientology is a highly controversial group (see Home - Why We Protest, Ex Scientologist Message Board, Ex-Scientology Kids, XENU TV - Exposing Scientology Through Streaming Video, Scientology: The Thriving Cult of Greed and Power). Not surprisingly, about thirty activists against Scientology abuse, crime and fraud gathered to protest the event. They included participants in the Anonymous protest group and me.

The purpose of this letter is to briefly set forth the pertinent facts, as I understand them to be, as part of a complaint to your company and to the relevant local, state and national authorities. The conduct described below is consistent with Church of Scientology written policies and documented practices mandating the sorts of civil and criminal misconduct that the Church of Scientology and your company engaged in from about 6 PM until about 10-30 PM on the evening of Saturday May 23, 2009.

There are two main areas of concern, what happened outside the hotel and what happened inside the hotel. You can read descriptions and comments, and see videos and photographs, at http://forums.whyweprotest.net/121-flash-raids/los-angeles-dianetics-celebration-05-23-09-a-46027/2/

First, what happened outside the hotel can be seen on the following video on You Tube.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPxbN1njYls&feature=channel_page]YouTube - Raid on Dianetics Anniversary Celebration, Part 2[/ame]
In essence, as this first video shows, your hotel security staff, seemingly headed by someone wearing a name badge of Samuel and acting at the direction of Scientologists, unlawfully excluded, and/or attempted to exclude, some thirty or more protestors from the public sidewalks around the Bonaventure Hotel. We were threatened with being arrested for trespassing (on the outer half of the sidewalk and public right of way). However, your security were unable to produce a copy of any city permit authorizing the closure of any portion of the sidewalk for any reason. Later the LAPD arrived and they took no action to support your hotels exclusion of members of the public from the sidewalks outside your building on the ground of their religious and political beliefs (e.g. their anti-scientology abuse, crime and fraud opinions). The Scientology enterprise considers itself above the law and your company’s staff willingly engaged in the violations.

Second, what happened inside the hotel can be seen at [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu2TYSazWio&feature=channel]YouTube - Raid on Dianetics Anniversary Celebration, Part 4[/ame] (You Tube: Raid on Dianetics Anniversary Celebration, Part 4) (5:55 to the end) and read
    at http://forums.whyweprotest.net/121-...tics-celebration-05-23-09-a-46027/#post875948
“We stood right by the entrance to the parking garage across the street from the Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown LA. With us were a bunch of Scientologists with signs about the Dianetics Anniversary. Then some anons stood on the bridge from the parking structure to the hotel, and some stood on the street. Andreas had fun with one of the many handlers video taping him, by telling her about body thetans. We only saw maybe 20 or 30 cars drive in, which had to be a major stat crash.

Then, we decided to take WBM to dinner for his birthday in the hotel, but this wackjob scilon in front of the hotel went nuts, saying we would get arrested if we went in. We asked the hotel doorman if it would be ok if we ate there, and he said Sure. So 3 of us walked in to look for a restaurant in the hotel and the scilons followed us around like zombies in a horror movie. We would turn a corner, and there would be 3 more of them. It was nuts. We found a restaurant, got the SPs to come in, too, and the scilons really hit the roof. (We're in ur hotel, eatin' ur foodz.) The kept walking by incessantly, checking on us, and by the time we finished, they'd worked the place up into such a frenzy that the hotel staff led us out the back door. Phew!”

    and at http://forums.whyweprotest.net/876177-post35/
“Once again, Scientologists attempted, via an implied representation as hotel officials, to assert operational and ownership control over private property that the Church does not own. I have seen this tactic before. Last night at the WB (Westin Bonaventure) the same misrepresentations occurred except that we, meaning the critics, knew that the OSA boys were impotent whiners on Westin's turf and that the LAPD did not care to waste taxpayer dollars by dispatching even one car for whining Scientologists.

WBM + Resistance +Swift Jr + yours truly were entering the Westin Bonaventure for a Birthday Dinner for WBM when a Scilon stepped in front of us and started saying that WBM was going to be arrested. Fortunately, John, one of the security men for the WB intervened as did his colleague, both very diplomatic gentlemen. Westin security made it clear that we were welcome to have dinner in the hotel so long as we left our signs behind and stayed in the restaurant. Westin did not want to be in the middle of the dust up between two parties and simply asked us to not to disturb the CoS event. Fair enough. The Westin Bonaventure staff was polite to both parties and I commend the hotel and its staff.

Hotel security escorted our group to the restaurant to protect us from marauding Scientologists who do not understand that SCIENTOLOGY DOES NOT OWN OR CONTROL THE BONAVENTURE!!! Unlike, say, the Super Power Building, the Westin Bonaventure, is open for business, has been for over 30 years, and serves an international clientele. The hotel is sensible in the conduct of its operations. Westin security and management did a great job in politely letting CoS know that it had other clients who wanted to eat dinner and could handle this matter w/o Scientology's unwelcome offers of help or advice.

“As we were being seated in the restaurant, Westin security was escorting in a few of the stragglers. I went to the entrance of the restaurant to wait for Graham Berry. A Scilon security agent pounced and informed me that I would be arrested if I stepped foot from the restaurant into the hotel proper. He was enforcing the Invisible Shield of Death Against SP's. I reminded him that if he did anything amiss it would be all over the global internet in less than one hour. With photos. His OT Death Stare weakened. The internet to Scientologists is like the Cross to Vampires. He scurried off like a good boy. He was your usual Miscavige clone: Proper haircut, expensive suit, silk tie, shined shoes. He was a good looking guy, very professional, but he did not have an appetite for MASSIVE INTERNET EXPOSURE.
    *****
Much to the chagrin of the Church and its security goons, a group of friends had a birthday dinner for a friend in the same building as a CoS event. We were there to eat and not to protest. The food was good. As we had a window table, we enjoyed watching officious Scilons breezing by <2.0 on the Tone Scale. They were there to enforce the NO SP FLY ZONE at the restaurant entrance. I suspect that agitated Scilons kept bothering hotel management as our hotel security escorts arrived at the end of dinner. We had agreed to leave after dinner. I take responsibility as I had negotiated dinner with the hotel but had failed to negotiate coffee and desert and aperitifs afterwards. However, the hotel graciously served WBM a slab o' delicious birthday CAEK and we sang the Birthday song. We critics had our CAEK and at it too. … ”

    and at:
http://forums.whyweprotest.net/121-...cs-celebration-05-23-09-a-46027/3/#post876585 “We dined at The Brewery on the 4th floor of the hotel. There were at least 10 tired, hungry protesters. That special someone brightened our evening.”

As you may have noted, several of the Westin Hotel door staff were polite and obligingly allowed some of the twelve diners to proceed up to the fourth floor restaurant. I was the last to arrive having first returned to my car to leave picket signs, camera and other items that may have caused a problem inside the hotel. As I walked quietly back into the hotel I was challenged by two Scientology security officers stationed inside your foyer. I ignored them and continued to The Brewery on the fourth floor of The Bonaventure. The twelve of us engaged in a quiet dinner except for a short verse of Happy Birthday as the restaurant delivered a slice of ice cream cake with one candle on it. However, during the entire time we were outside the restaurant staffers from the Church of Scientology Office of Special Affairs (the Church’s intelligence and intimidation bureau). On several occasions they were with your hotel security. Clearly, while eating on your premises, we were being harassed on account of our religious and political views (being against Scientology abuses, crimes and frauds). This unlawful conduct peaked at 9-45 PM while we were finishing dinner, requesting the bill and orders of coffee.

At 9-45 PM Westin Bonaventure security officer Samuel and another Westin Bonaventure employee arrived. They said that we had finished eating so therefore we were to leave immediately and in haste. I said I wanted coffee first and was told that I’d be arrested if I did not leave immediately. It was “an agreement” your Samuel said. However, I and most of the others were not party to any agreement that we leave our dinner when the Church of Scientology instructed Westin Bonaventure security that we were to be thrown out. Remember this was a quiet social dinner without any disturbances or indicia that we had been part of a civil and human rights protest outside the hotel.

To add insult to injury we were ordered out of the fourth floor and onto the outside patio area and rushed down to the five flights of outdoor cement stairs at the corner of Flower and Fifth. One older woman with me was not able to walk as fast as Samuel wished. She asked to be taken down in the elevator. He refused until we forced the issue. Samuel called for assistance and he escorted Tory Christman out the main entrance while the rest of us were hurried down flight after flight of cement stairwell and steps. Not so coincidentally, the Scientology/Dianetics function was emptying out at the same time.

Over the past 23 years I have spent many hundreds of dollars dining in the Westin Bonaventure, and large law firms I have been a partner of have spent thousands of dollars on group lunches and dinners there. Accordingly, I was shocked to be treated by your security staff as though I were a common criminal who had to be pushed down the back stairs.

The conduct of your hotel staff on this occasion was consistent with a policy, pattern and practice of other such instances of Scientology inspired civil rights violations and hate crimes, over the past fifteen months, in Los Angeles and elsewhere. Of course, similar conduct also extends back fifty nine years.

In particular, the conduct of the Church of Scientology and of Starwood Hotels constitutes a prima facie violation of various federal and state civil rights and Penal Code provisions, as aggravated by the hate crimes statutes.

At about 10-50 PM on Saturday May 23, 2009 I telephoned the duty manager at the Westin Bonaventure hotel and spoke to a person identifying himself as France, the duty manager. I provided him with a verbal summary of what occurred along with my name and telephone number. I have had no further communication from your hotel and so additional legal action now appears necessary.

    Very truly yours,

Re: Los Angeles DIANETICS Celebration 05/23/09

Great letter, Graham. Mine is forthcoming to include "Samuel" physically pushing me forward as he told you and me we were not walking fast enough to keep up with the group - you were writing something on a business card at the time.

When I demanded Samuel to back off or I'd have him arrested for assault, he immediately radioed in to dispatch that we were causing him problems, not subscribing to the "pre-arranged agreement" and needed back-up.

Then, of course, when I erupted angrily to Samuel's mistreatment of Tory, who politely requested an elevator because she couldn't walk down 5 flights of stairs, and dumbass Samuel told us she had no choice and that no elevator was available.

It was only after the security supervisor "John", accompanied by J. Swift, arrived and appropriately handled the matter though several others were perturbed that when we arrived at the skybridge level, where Scilon guard Odo Huber was waiting, that we were not allowed to stay there... we had to go down to the sidewalk.

The Westin Bonaventure needs to respond appropriately to this badly-handled situation where the hotel, in essence, allowed the Scilons to take over the operations of the hotel to threaten & abuse critics who peacefully entered a non-Scientology-owned business, and open to the general public, to dine in a hotel restaurant.

It is a private property but refusal of the use of an elevator??? Some of the stuff is just bizarre. Whoever paid the check should complain about the inability to finish the meals. It sounds like Smurf was indicating some people weren't finished.

Yeah, about that. Isn't stuff like that a great way to get people to not take you seriously?

Re: Los Angeles DIANETICS Celebration 05/23/09

    I actually...can't believe I am writing this...agree with Herro.

An official letter saying things like "scilon", "CoS", "body thetans" or using terms like WBM and Resistance rather than proper names removes some of the authority of the letter. And no one reading this will have clue what the Super Power Building is. Only scilons and critics know that.

Saying that scientology is controversial is enough. Linking to all those websites goes away from the main issue, which is that the hotel staff behaved in an unprofessional manner. One doesn't even have to mention scientology to get that point across. But obviously scientology was the catalyst for the poor behavior of the Westin staff.

And the letter was far too long. Perhaps an initial letter stating that a follow-up with more detail would be sent.

I am glad though that proper notes and quick action was taken. But one must remember that the general public who do not have the fire in the belly about scientology...will look at parts of this letter as if the writer had tinfoil headgear.

The portions you took exception to are quotes from others present who support the same version of events given by me. Too long for a complaint to a corporate legal department? Less information and they'll ask for more. How about you critics of the critics, and you other keyboard warriers, getting out there and showing us how it should be done.

Re: Los Angeles DIANETICS Celebration 05/23/09

No need to be butthurt, Graham..I am on your side ;)

My criticism is meant point out that people not familiar with scientology and any controversies concerning it, may be confused why a complaint about poor employee behavior mentions details of scientology that don't seem to be related. We here know what you are talking about, but the person receiving this letter will feel attacked immediately, when he might have felt he was just trying to protect a client paying a lot of money to rent space for the night. The manager or whomever will err on the side or over-reaction in these kind of cases, and was likely taken off-guard by the entire spectacle. He needs to be educated about the cult's tactics of course, and shown where he or his staff erred, but this seemed too much of an attack for the initial letter, to me anyway.

I have no legal background, so can not help draft a proper letter. I just wanted to state how I myself, would have looked at this letter if I were a general public person unfamiliar with scientology.
