Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

-Being Edited- (You could see through where I had my name scribbled out, Downloading Photoshop to edit it and post as image)

I find this letter severely hysterical. My mom got it today and sent me the PDFs. My Dad is furious at them because he didn't really believe me when I told him about their practices, but now he's in total support of Anon.

It is addressed to my Dad because they spotted my truck which technically belongs to him.

Can you post an image of it so i don't have to download anything?

sorry, it was sent to me as a PDF... I'm sorry. Anyways, it is apparently one of several other form letters that went out and is nothing new... :( I thought I was special

It's the same thing everyone else that has been ID'd has received. Intimidation tactics.

Anyway, it's a message from the law firm including the propaganda from anonymous-exposed.org, and a complimentary DVD.
  5. Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

Well, I don't have a letter OR the cool collector's edition DVD. I'm jealous.

I SOOOOOO want to respond though...

I want to say something like: I'm much more afraid of the Church of Scientology, because unlike unfulfilled threats, the CoS has ACTUALLY killed people...

Uhhh OP, I can see your name where you blacked it out and your adress. You might want to do something about that.

Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

The threats cited were almost certainly invented by the Co$.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help the cause of Anonymous that Anonymous did prank call several church organizations during the early stages of the campaign. However, any "bomb threats" made by anonymous would have been ridiculously implausible, and specifically mentioning yellow vans. I'm not saying Anonymous did make such calls, but I am saying I wouldn't be too surprised if they had.

Sucks that you got ID'ed - I'm glad your parents aren't freaked out. Seems that so far that's mostly what they want.. scaring parents into telling their kids to stop.
  11. Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

did the recipient of the L&W letter do that?

    absolutely not

Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

The nice take away from this one is the clear evidence that the CoS is blowing off their own toes with these letters.

Previously unconvinced parent is now convinced of the evil-empireness of the CoS?

    Priceless.

While utterly FAILING to intimidate us with these letters, each gains the CoS a thousand new pissed-off critics.

    Keep 'em coming!
  14. Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

I kinda figured you dad didn't prank call the CoS (the letter was adressed to the registered owner of the truck you drove amirite?)

I don't think you pranked called the CoS either, FWIW

Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

Nah, I didn't either. I got involved around the time WBM's video to Anon came along.

So they called your dad a terrorist???

    this is sickening wanton harassment.
  17. Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

Looks like AboveTheLaw.com (law blog) is discussing Latham and Watkins and has it as fourth story down on their front page with links to the radar coverage.

Think outside the box for just a second- who exactly is this "Anonymous" person you refer to?

I can't accuse my local Gym of sending nasty letters and then blame it on the next muscular person I see.

    The law doesn't play spin-the-bottle.

Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

Exactly. Nor did I say that it did. When I refer to "Anonymous", I refer to the collective of anonymous entities. Which means I'm referring, in essence, to everyone, and yet to no one. I'm not making any accusation at any person.

But we *do* know that during the early stages of the Scientology "raids", there were a number of denial-of-service attacks propagated, and a number of people who made prank calls directed at church organizations.

What we don't know is if any of those calls could actually qualify as threatening. Knowing Anonymous, I'm leaning to "no"; the typical meme-spouting folks who were involved in early stages wouldn't likely have made such unfunny threats as the Scilons claim they did. But I can also see the possibility that someone might have made a yellow van/hackers on steroids joke.

We do know that the Church of Scientology has a long history of making false accusations of bomb threats. They did it with Paulette Cooper in the 70's, they did it with the BBC, and they're almost certainly doing it with Anonymous. Pretty much every bomb threat received by the church in the past was also sent by the church; there's no reason to believe they did otherwise toward their most recent critical group.

    D:

All I was trying to do was black out those areas with personal info...and something just would not let me do it.

I have a PDF file. I try to edit it...of course nothing works. I downloaded a PDF editor hoping it would have some way of putting something on top of the words...nothing. I screenshotted the PDF but it came out in such poor quality that you couldn't read much. I opened it in Open Office but somehow parts of it suddenly became Read Only and I couldn't edit the rest. Then I decided to get the photoshop trial for 30 days. I downloaded it and installed. I restart and select "I want to test PS for 30 days." I get an error that the trial doesn't work. I decide "Fuck you Macintosh" and decide I'll get a Keygen for it. Well, then I got the WinReanimator virus...

I'm just going to repost the fixed file tomorrow. I've had enough of my computer for many an hour.

MM... Print the PDF, black it out, scan it as jpg?

Re: Letter from Latham and Watkins Law Firm. Am I being Fair Gamed?

All things considered, whether Latham Watkins is knocking on people's door or not, all of this pretty bad PR for the firm.

Somewhere on this forum is an example of a rebuttal letter that someone banged out in response to a letter they received.

I hope Latham Watkins wakes up and smells the coffee, because whether they like it or not, Co$ is probably going to continue to send out "fake" lawyers or even perhaps write "fake" letters. As long as people keep reporting these things, we're on the right track.

So they know who you are, have your information and are in contact with lawyers. Yet you state you are downloading photoshop to edit the image.

Might you reconsider and download The Gimp instead since it works just fine and is free? Dont give them ammo.
