Las Vegas Tribune endorses Scientology tool Sharron Angle for US Senate race

The Las Vegas Tribune has just endorsed cult tool Sharron Angle for the Republican nominee for US Senate.

Comments are open, and it looks like commenter FredR is a scilon:

LOL...the "massage and sauna" issue has now been redefined by Angle as "karate chops and a sweat box."

<sniff> I laughed so hard at that! Nice damage control. Like from a backyard kiddie pool to waterboarding!

She still endorses a New Mexico program that's expensive, doesn't work, and skipped out town in the middle of the night a year and a half ago.

Looking back on the puff piece done by the LVRJ on the opening of the LV Idle Org, I guess this should come as no surprise. Clearly LVRJ doesn't yet get it.

From RCP, the most recent polling data for each of the primary candidates v. incumbent Harry Reid (D) from the LVRJ/Mason-Dixon poll on 5/26. Among the Republican primary candidates, cult mouthpiece Angle is the only one shown losing to Reid in a general election (at this point):

    * Tarkanian v. Reid - Tarkanian +1
    * Lowden v. Reid - Lowden +1
    * Angle v. Reid - Reid +3

Polling numbers as of 5/26/10. The margin of error is +/- 4 giving none of the numbers real legitimacy. More details here: RealClearPolitics - 2010 Nevada Senate Race

Of course, it's just a poll. Primary is June 8. Polling info directly form LVRJ: Opinion Polls - ReviewJournal.com

I'd be fucking embarrassed if my local paper justified their endorsements like that. There was almost no discussion of any political issues!

If I walked down to a Salon, and found some catty bitch with her head in one of those blowdrier machines, and I turned it off and asked them who they voted for and why, I'd expect it to sound a lot like this fluff piece.

what the christ. Is it any wonder print journalism is dead?

The program was discarded by the famous Ensenada prison even longer ago. Seems they just made up statistics because they didn't keep track of those who'd done their time and been released.

I am stunned that this mis-information continues. But then, I see this as the only way opponents can smear Sharron Angle. Sharron has been a 33 year Baptist and has no ties to Scientology. But then the truth is not nearly as interesting as the lie. Sharron has run a clean campaign. I wish others would follow suit. We have a big job in defeating Harry Reid. We need to ban together, not fight each other. Vote Sharron Angle on June 8th. Find out the real truth at Elect Sharron Angle - Republican for U.S. Senate

Anonymous is not Harry Reid's friend.

You say lies? We have a saying here: Dox or GTFO.

Her documented ties to Scientology are that she continues to endorse an expensive Scientology program that is pure woo quackery created by a sci-fi writer and doesn't work. Oh, and membership in the National Foundation of Women Legislators, which is currently a Church of Scientology front group to advance nonsense like this and their "anti-psych" views.

By the way, saying that she is a 33 year Baptist says nothing. According to the Church of Scientology, you can be a Baptist and a Scientologist at the same time. Say that she is not a Scientologist.

The truth is that she stubbornly continues to support a fraudulent detox program with Scientology ties.

The truth is, she is either too stupid or too corrupt to actually review the information debunking this program.

The truth is, bitch not qualified for the senate if she cannot even handle one little cult front group.

Re: Las Vegas Tribune endorses Scientology tool Sharron Angle for US Senate race

Note also that Angle doesn't have to be a practicing Scientologist for her support and endorsement of a couple of known cult front groups to be financially helpful to the cult.

She may be "just" a Baptist, and not a "Baptist Scientologist," but she seems unwilling to disassociate herself from woo quackery (as said above, and which it IS) involving dangerous overdoses of niacin and prolonged saunas, often without adequate traned medical professional or physician oversight, and she also seems unconcerned that the little bit of benefit she gets from belonging to their "women voters" group is due to supporting the cult's agenda (which includes "becoming the authorities" and infiltrating the government--something they already have done as outsiders, breaking in).

It's not an insignificant problem, as it demonstrates that Angle is not doing due diligence about the groups she is associated with, which speaks ill of her future ability to do due diligence into other front groups or toxic affiliations, and an inability to adequately research and properly address her constituents' issues. That's pretty much her JOB, so she is off to a bad start, and already showing poor judgment and an unwillingness to do adequate research before lending her name and reputation to cult projects and groups.

If she was tied to Moonies or Krishnas, maybe that would rattle the naysayer's world a little more; some people are still not getting the memo about how pernicious Scientology is. Front groups serve to legitimize and promote bad science / bad medicine / bad agendas and to recruit new people, especially those who WANT to do good works and help people.

Her intentions may be benign, but the groups she is cuddled up with definitely are not, and she's foolish for not figuring that out BEFORE she got involved. DO people not care what their names are tied to anymore? Do people not grasp that the very POINT of front groups is to appear harmless and focused on a hot button issue that most normal people care about, such as "human rights" (when they commit human rights abuses themselves and have done for decades)?

Just some food for thought, Angle-supporter. And you should do YOUR homework before thinking your arguments in favour of her are at all addressing the issues we are discussing here. Do you, perchance, belong to either of the same groups? Then you, too, should do your homework and stop being so intellectually lazy. Your good name is one of the greatest treasures you have, and no group should use your good name to legitimize itself and, by extension, its mother cult group.

If anyone is interested, I shot some poons off to the LRVJ now.

It's probably too late or unlikely that they would change their endorsement now but it never hurts to continue educating people in these positions.

Here is the contact information for those that received my poons if you want to do the same (hint). Also, oh look, telephone numbers. Skypefags?

Las Vegas Tribune reads like a crappy weekly, which it is.

It only claims a circulation of 40,000 a week (Their estimate in order to charge advertising fees)

With an area population of 1.8 million...that is not very large...

But just read it. Not a very good paper and I doubt a big opinion maker.

most bang for the buck.. send $cientology horror stories to all her opposition campaign directors... let their machinery, which is already in place and functioning deliver the message.. pass them the ammo they need to get her voters, and she is finished... understand they likely already got anon da packs from $cientology.

had committed to extort money from them.

My father has always held out Scientology and auditing to be based
purely on science and not-on religious 'belief or faith. We
regularly promised and distributed publications with 'scientific

father and I created a 'religious front' only for tax purposes and
legal protection 'from fraud Claims'. We almost always told nearly
everyone that Scientology was really science, not a religion, but
that the religious front was created to deal with the government."

All the heavy "Scientology is BAD 'kay?" stuff is tl;dr for them if there's nothing further on the connection between Angle and Scientology.

Imagine if Angle wore a fur coat and PETA flooded them with dox about the seal hunt and Brigitte Bardot. (Yeah... So?)

I'm not saying not to send stuff, I'm saying that you should try to make it relevant to this particular Nevada horse-race or they'll blow it off with a NYPA, HAND.

Re: Las Vegas Tribune endorses Scientology tool Sharron Angle for US Senate race

Holy crap this is indeed bad product.

The entire thing is written so oddly and very very badly.

It's written oddly, in a childlike manner, but not from a child. And you are correct of course, it amazingly avoids all discussion of any issues. You have no idea where the candidates stand from this endorsement on any issue. This endorsement is useless for all thinking readers.

    Check this insanity out:

"Hotel owners have spokespersons speaking for them, and on many occasions they speak directly to the candidates. Candidates want to make sure that
they will get a good contribution from the hotels, and sometime the hotel- or casino-owner wants to make sure that the candidate knows they are giving that "good" contribution.

The people do not have spokespersons speaking for them. They trust us because we would not lie to them, and we do not have any hidden agenda.

When we endorsed two candidates in North Las Vegas' last election, we did not expect any favor in return.

One lost and the other one won and no one from this newspaper ever visited or spoke with either candidate any more. We want only what is the best for our community."

So rather than discuss the issues, the Las Vegas Tribune simply declares that you should trust its judgment because, after all, hotel owners have candidates "speaking for them" and it's only interest is, allegedly, speaking for you. I suppose they append that statement to every article they write? Is there no pride in journalism anymore?
