POSTGAME REPORT - JANICE MEYER MENTION - SYDNEY DOWNING CENTRE 2012/02/07 Anonymous was on the scene early chilling with Bryan Seymour (ABC's Steve Cannane was also present) and waiting for Jan Eastgate. Alas the planned enturbulation was not to be. After a couple of hours (11:12AM to be precise) the case was heard without Jan in attendance. Jan was represented by some guy (name?) with a thick 2" binder, another guy sat behind him with another 2" binder on Jan ("Correspondence and Attendances"). It was quickly revealed that Jan Eastgate had NOT been excused from attendance, they had tried to have her removed but it failed. However despite this there was no Jan, it was revealed she is still on bail in the USA! Sadly the magistrate did not seem to take much offence to this, unless I am mistaken there should be some sort of large fine for her non-appearance. Moving on from this the DPP (Coyle?) revealed an additional charge was laid against Jan THIS MORNING. In addition there is to be an amendment to Charge No. 1. It was also revealed there had been delays with getting witnesses, in particular there are two witnesses who are suppose to be part of the Brief who have NOT BEEN LOCATED. Jan's defence declined to enter a plea. They apparently have some uncertainty about the the Brief and the charges and evidence contained within. There was much talk about the 'Section 91', I do not understand what this is but it appears to be unfinished/incomplete in the Brief (?). The Crown was tired of the constant delays with this and suggested the DPP and Defence sit down that very day to sort of what is happening with the Brief and amend the Section 91 to completion. I believe it is to be finished by Thursday so a hearing can be locked in. So, all in all, progress is happening. It appears Scientology has tried to slow things down as much as they can with endless Section 91 timetables, but it appears it will be finished soon (today?). As noted Jan was NOT present and we are hoping there will be punishment for this. Only one Scientologist (OSA) was spotted in attendance. We expect to hear the details of the second charge and other info soon. Edit: I think this is the OSA guy on the right -

An addendum: Upon arrival, the front door of the court was empty of OSA and journalists. Bryan did have a camera crew handy, but I didn't see them. Inside, not see a single Scientologist. Bryan Seymour spotted the Scientology lawyer, but Jan and the entourage were not there. It was obvious from the outset that Jan was not going to show up. What was not obvious was how the judge would respond to this. In a previous case in the same court another individual who had been remanded on bail also did not show up. The judge advised that if he did not show up next time she would issue a warrant for his arrest. Although the judge was pissed off Jan was not there, she did not extend the same courtesy. I have to hand it to Bryan Seymour for his patience. He has shown up every time that Jan SHOULD have been there and was not. I have no idea why the judge was more pissed off with the other defendant than Jan. It may be the age of the charges, the fact she runs an overseas business... Anyway, afterwards, we went for a victory troll. We visited the Sydney Org (the little one, not ANZO) and they are hiring. I would happily relay further details about the employment/volunteering/indentured servantry opportunity, however the Scientologist who was there would not answer any questions. MAJOR UPDATE The matter has been set down for a 2 day committal hearing on 15 and 16 May 2012. The matter has also be listed for mention on 24 April 2012 to confirm the above hearing. The defendant Meyer has been excused from attending on 24 April. The Charges:

In a committal hearing (s91 hearing), the Crown must show that it has a prima facie case. ie. It must produce enough evidence that, if uncontested, could prove the case and lead to a conviction. The Defendant MAY lead evidence, either from the defendant personally or from other witnesses. This rarely happens at committal hearings, as defendants normally prefer not to disclose their case before the actual trial. You would have heard the mag refer to "the Crown", but s/he meant the DPP. Just a minor tidbit of info. Jan Eastgate appears in Source Magazine (Flag) circa June 2011 as having completed "OT preps". I believe she probably got a lot of sec checking.
^ Now that is interesting, though it doesn't seem possible? Jan was arrested in May 2011 and she was kept in Australia till at least her hearing on June 16th 2011. Possibly some completions shenanigans?
