    Info on YFHR?

Just wondering if someone can provide me information, personal accounts, experiences working with Youth for Human Rights. The not-for-profit I work for, which deals a lot with issues of social justice, is using some of their ressources and materials lately, and I'm trying to find the best way to bring it up with them, without sounding like a huge biggot.

    Anything would be appreciated.

    Thx

They don't have much separation from Scientology, since their video are products of CoS:

(On the one hand, if you say that they're a front, they call you a bigot. On the other hand, they brag about creating all the materials. Gripping hand, they think all us garden-variety humanoid wogs are stupid.)

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOUTH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY
On its website, http://www.youthforhumanrights.org/, YHR International states:
"Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is an independent non-profit corporation headquartered in Los Angeles, with the purpose to educate people in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights so they become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace."

    1. YHR International (YHRI) was founded by Scientologist and current YHRI President, Mary Shuttleworth, and the Church of Scientology International.
Source: The Church of Scientology International brochure entitled "Making Human Rights a Reality", published under the banner "Scientology - Effective Solutions" (Going the Distance for Human Rights - Freedom Magazine - Scientology in Los Angeles), at page 12. (Note that the YHRI website does not mention the Church of Scientology International's founding role, nor Ms Shuttleworth's connection with the Church. Meet the President - Youth for Human Rights International)

    2. The YHRI Executive Director, Tim Bowles, is a Scientologist.
He has attained the status of OTVIII (currently the highest rank), is a Commissioner of the Scientology organisation Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (the object of which is the removal of psychiatry and psychology from the mental health field), is a member of the World Institute of Scientology Enterprises (WISE), was a Founding Patron of the Church of Scientology International, was general legal counsel to the Church of Scientology for eight years and has represented the Church of Scientology in legal matters (including as one of the lead attorneys in Church of Scientology International v. Fishman and Geertz , in which Mr Fishman gave evidence that he had committed crimes on behalf of the Church of Scientology and had been instructed to murder his psychologist, Dr. Uwe Geertz, and then commit suicide) .

    3. The YHRI promotes Scientologists.
The promotion of L Ron Hubbard as a human rights advocate at the 2007 Sydney event (see below) caused considerable dismay. A glance at the YHR website shows that it also promotes artists who are scientologists. For example, a music video project to combat human trafficking involved five artists. All five are scientologists.

    4. The Church of Scientology International treats YHRI's accomplishments as its own.
Addressing a 2004 gathering of the International Association of Scientologists, Mike Rinder, then a director of the Church of Scientology International and Executive Director of the Church of Scientology International's Office of Special Affairs, make the following speech, viewable on Youtube, accompanied by a display of YHR footage. (Note: LRH = L Ron Hubbard; LRH Tech = the writings, training and policies of L Ron Hubbard; ie. the essence of Scientology).

"When you bring LRH Tech to leaders of society the impact is commensurate with the numbers they influence. That's why last year we launched a program to deliver LRH answers right to the opinion leaders and elected officials of Europe. We placed a series of booklets in their hands covering our effective solutions; one each month. Each covered a different subject, the very substance of all we are and do. From our ABLE social betterment programs to our church and community activities. In all, 550 000 have been distributed throughout Europe since the campaign began.

"Of course, our effective solutions include our international human rights program, because where fundamental rights do not exist, man cannot go free. We've continued our events, conferences and hand-to-hand distribution, reaching no less than 131 million worldwide this year, and our efforts have been relentless across four continents. Just since June, we took our "Youth for Human Rights" crusade right into the UN General Assembly chambers. UN officials then helped launch the 2004 youth summit in the international headquarters of the UN Education Fund.

"In Los Angeles, on the steps of city hall, we brought city council members, congressmen and the chairman of the city's Human Rights Commission together to witness the mayor proclaim International Youth for Human Rights Day. While, to further raise public awareness, we placed our human rights messages on radio and tv stations from Canada to Pakistan. And for the next step, our Youth for Human Rights coalition presented their first ever human rights music video, entitled "United", soon to be seen world over in public schools and on television.

"But, as a final measure of our leadership role, we now sit as official delegates on the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, expressly established to create a human rights framework for the continent. And when we proposed the formation of a new watchdog, to investigate governments that violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it was ratified and adopted as official policy of the OSCE. And that means now, for the first time, religious freedom rights are enforceable in all European nations, and that's a continental leap in making human rights a fact."

    In contrast:

In early 2007 a YHR event at the Parliament of the state of New South Wales, Australia caused considerable dismay by its prominent promotion of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Church of Scientology. At the time, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported that the Church of Scientology was a "major sponsor" of YHR and quoted YHR spokesman, Nigel Mannock:

"If there was a photograph of L. Ron Hubbard on the material it was because of what he said about human rights," Mr Mannock said.

"We do get support from the Church of Scientology, among other people, and a number of people who happen to be Scientologists are in it.

"It is not a Scientology organisation. We think L. Ron Hubbard was a good supporter of human rights."

The above video is just one example that Hubbards plan, which he layed out in the sixties in various HCO PLs was and is successfull.
But those HCO PLs show that human rights and values are treated just like any fabricated product with the methods of marketing research.
All the human right campaigns are more a tool to build a positive public image and to rise COS´s acceptability than a purpose in itself.

What follows is a part of this post, but i think it´s worth reposting it here.

    1) Exposing the human rights campaign real purpose:

In 1966 Hubbard layed out a loose plan about "what to do" Sauce here.

HCO POLICY LEITER OF 15 FEBRUARY 1966 ATTACKS ON SCIENTOLOGY

Remember, CHURCHES ARE LOOKED UPON AS REFORM GROUPS.
Therefore we must act like a reform group.
    ...
We must convert from an attacked group to a reform group that attacks rotten spots in the society. We should not limit ourselves to mental healing or own line. We should look for groups to investigate and blow the lid off and become known as a mightly [sic] reform group. We object to slavery, oppression, torture, murder, perversion, crime, political sin and anything that makes Man unfree.
    ...
Remember - the only reason we are in trouble with the press or government is that we are not searching out and exposing rotten spots in the society. We must practice on the whole group called society. If we do not it will attack us just as preclear will attack a Scientologist that won't audit him.

In 1969 the plan gets a more concrete form:

POLICY LETTER OF 3 FEBRUARY 1969 - PUBLIC IMAGE

For a long while we have not had an exactly stated policy on building a public image. We have just been ourselvesand done our jobs and hoped somebody would catch on. This is basically what protected us. And we should keep doing it. But the time has come to also build a public image as an outflow publicity action.
The image is SCIENTOLOGISTS ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CLEANING UP THE FIELD OF MENTAL HEALING AND EFFECTIVELY HANDLING MENTAL HEALTH ON THE PLANET.
    ...
By uniting with other civic, humanitarian and civil and human rights groups we can make an organized progress.
    ...
"Effectively handling mental healing on the planet" is what we are being effective in doing. But we didn't make enough public image with it. We keep building the image to Scientologists. We must study how to do it outside. We have clean hands. We are effective. We dedicatedly do our jobs well. We must keep on doing this. But we have to find more PUBLIC ways to SAY so.
    ...
In both instances you have to go civic, go outside Scientology, get support, organize committees, plot out campaigns, work for outside finance etc. In handling the above Public Image policy, you don't announce the policy. You use it for a guide to keep pounding variations of the same message.
The policy is expressed in community action, well press covered, not just in statements. Committee meetings, deputations, picketing, big names, events. You figure out the story that will be written, then do it, seeing it gets covered by having the press to hand.
    ...
You can and must ally with real humanitarian and civil rights groups (getting press coverage for every such contact).
    ...
Plan a programme, let it run awhile. The programme is based on the policy which is the Major Target-to make that Public image.
    ...
You can and must seize the attention of the press in your area, not to defend Scn, but to hammer home the above Public Image by forwarding crusades and campaigns that carry the message.
    ...
Build up Scn celebrities that can speak and meet the public in your area.
    ...
Our end product is a sane planet. His was a dead one. So with all the theta in our lines and purpose, Scn PRO to the PUBLIC can be ten thousand times as effective and worthwhile.
This public image can and must be built if this planet is to survive at all.

    OEC6 page 276

Also we begin to stand for something they all stand for. If as we progress a lot of people also get processed, then there's also the effect of their beneficial influence added to it.
Example: We poll an area or a country regarding desirable social targets with "What should be done to improve human rights?" We get a lot of answers. We boil these down to an honest common denominator. We find whatever we find. Maybe it's "Parking tickets should be given to the person, not left on cars". So we liaison with any and all civic groups and put this up to them.
    ...
You can do it with a much more general approach. "What should be done in this city to better it." The choice of the question of course to some degree regulates the campaign. The improvement of human rights will be found to be very generally acceptable.

POLICY LETTER OF 5 FEBRUARY 1969 Issue II

The purpose of a Public Relations Officer is TO FORMULATE, GUIDE AND UTILIZE PUBLIC OPINION TO THE END OF ENHANCING THE REPUTE AND EXPANSION OF HIS ORGANIZATION OR CLIENT.
    ...
He utilizes word of mouth, persons, publications, and news media of all types. The publications can be his own or general public ones.
    ...
A PRO doesn't let an event go by without getting it reported on and getting his message into it.
    ...
A knowledge of the ETHNIC values of the public to whom he is communicating is vital. What they think is wonderful, good, passable, bad, awful. He can get these by survey or by studying what the public has reacted to in the past in other fields. He makes his organization compare to the wonderful, good ETHNIC. He makes the enemy compare to the bad awful ethnics.
    ...
Scientology has been the effect of PRO actions of this nature all its life. To reverse public opinion it is necessary that one really learns PRO actions.
    ...
A Scn PRO is way out in front. The orgs do well. The tech is tops. Scn has a complete technical monopoly in Mental Healing.
    ...

And concrete action is taken by installing special Departmants:

    DIVISION 6 - PUBLIC RELATIONS OEC6 p. 37

Ideal Scene.- The Org has established PR Control over its business contacts, local community, mass media and profession leaders, community groups, necessary VIPs and people who count who are now on our side, in our favour reaching for Dianetics and Scientology; with such alliances achieving safety for Dianetics and Scientology to expand in the area free of third party actions or enemy attack, past, present or future.
In essence PR Area Control exists in the fullest sense of the term attained and maintained with regular PR activities, PR programmes and broad public promotion projecting a highly acceptable Image carefully aligned to what is publicly popular and needed and effective in bringing masses of people into the Org reaching for service.

DEPARTMENT 16 - FACT FINDING AND RESEARCH

    Awareness Level: Acceptability

Ideal Scene: Dept 16 accurately and routinely supplying reliable information, facts and evaluation/research findings pertaining to PR successful/unsuccessful policies and programmes, public trends, local and world events affecting or likely to affect Org operations, what is popular/unpopular and acceptable in local Scn, Dianetic and public circles, the publics we control and don't yet control...

This datum is further delineated and its use explained in HCO Policy Letter of 24th January 1969 "Purpose and Targets". A whole department, 17, (Awareness -Level-Rehabilitation) is devoted to the rehabilitation of public purposes-the "Handling the enemy" department.
A third new datum is used in this org board, which is the anatomy of population control; This depends on a knowledge of the ethnics of the people. Ethnics-What is Wonderful Infinitely valuable
    Good Valuable
    Bad Worthwhile
    Awful Unacceptable
    Not wanted
    Hateful
You find out the current ethnic values of the population, what is acceptable or valuable and assimilate this data into your propaganda and publicity. You beat the drum about that and ignore what the Press are beating the drum about. You push that in literature, and it is different in each ethnic area. Know the purposes of the public.

KEY THE PURPOSE AND THE STOP BLOWS-which is the exact formula to put a group into action.
Human rights are currently very popular in the U.S. and elsewhere. So there is a whole Department, 16, to do with Public Research and Reports
    (Awareness Level : Acceptability)-Ethnics.
