    How to Wiki ?

    See also:

    In red, buttons at the top of each edit field.

    To create a new page:
    - Go to wiki
    - Register
    - Type the URL of the page you want to create, e.g.
    - Edit the page and enter the content

    Basic symbols:

    = First level title = [Automatic timetable]
    == Second level title ==
    === third level title ===

    [Leave a blank line (twice "enter") to move to the next line.]

    * [List with bullets]
    # [List with numbers]

    : [Indentation]
    ---- [Horizontal line]

    <font color="color">Color</font>

    [Link to an external page]
    [[Link to an internal page]]
    [[File:Embedded file]]
    [[Media:Linked file]]

    <math>Mathermatic formula (inLaTex)</math>
    [Could be useful to explain scientology's different approach to maths.]
    <nowiki>Ignore non-wiki formatted text</nowiki>

    [Signature with time stamp]

    <ref>[URL text]</ref> [References are automatically numbered and mentioned at the bottom]
    <ref name=XXX> [URL text]</ref> [Useful for multiple references; in later use: <ref name=XXX/>]

    Example of table:

    {| class="wikitable" style="width: 100%; margin: 0 auto 0 auto;" style="text-align: left; border-color: #aaa; border-collapse: collapse" border="1" cellpadding="4px"

    !XXX!!XXX!!XXX [Titles for three columns]

    |XXX||XXX||XXX [Line for three columns]
    |- [Horizontal line]

    To create a map

    - Click the last button on the right; it generates a google map.
    - Modify it at will (coordinates, scale, add points)
    - Copy the wiki mark-up below the map and paste in the text.

    Example: (/ self-promotion)

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    I love that refenceses are automatically numbered, that was something I wondered about.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    I have but one question: How to wiki lists, or simply lines of text?

    For some reason wiki software ignores line breaks so neat bodies of text come out in a large block mess.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    - Use star (*) at the beginning of each item of a list (there should also be a "list" command)
    - Add a blank line (two "returns") to begin a new line.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    I found that method, but its not very useful if you dont want something as a 'list'. I did find a way of doing it by attaching the html code <BR> after each line, which does work but is very tedious.

    Is there no simple way to import regular formatted text into wiki? :(

    To use an example, say I wanted to put this in:

    Church of Scientology Sydney
    4 Hercules Street
    Surry Hills 2010
    Ph: 9267 6772
    Fax: 9261 2840
    Hours: Monday - Friday: 9am – 10pm, Saturday - Sunday: 9am - 6pm
    Website: Church of Scientology Sydney, Australia &mdash; Official Web Site

    I wouldn't want it as a 'list' and I wouldn't want a new line between each line, so what to do?

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    I edited, copied and imported the whole content in Word (I know), then replaced automatically each symbol of end of line by two. Time needed: 20 seconds (I know). Result: Narconon centers - Why We Protest Wiki
    I hope it answers your question.

    For the websites, I replaced automatically in Word "www" by "http://www".

    For the emails, I have no simple solution.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    An interesting solution, I suppose the extra line spacing doesn't look too bad when the whole page is like that.

    Perhaps there is some keen wiki-affectionado out there who has built a web-app which automatically converts regular formatting to wiki-formatting? I will try looking.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    Does someone know how to align a google map on the right of a page ?
  12. Re: How to Wiki ?

    You can do it using the <span> tag, which I've done on the page I assume you're talking about. You might want to fiddle with the positioning to get it exactly where you want it. Switching "right" for "center" in the tag will align the map on the left hand side of the page, but to the right of the TOC, which might look better.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    Thanks. Could you also manage that part of the text does not hide behind the map ? Thanks in advance.
  14. Re: How to Wiki ?

    NP. How's this? I think it looks pretty good. I tried it with the map right-aligned, but the page didn't look very cohesive.

    Re: How to Wiki ?

    Oh I've been doing some work on the wwp wiki and made some templates. Thought I'd post them here in case anyone else has use for them:

    Formatting templates

    Citation templates

    ...and did an example page for the citation templates.

    Anyhoo, thought I'd share...
