"How to Stage an Effective Protest" - from a photographer's perspective

This is an article written by a photographer, explaining ways to make a protest more effective visually. Lots of good information.

    Article here

    From the article:

"Use symbols that people know, and keep them simple and clear. Originality is great, but remember that the average reading time for a newspaper photograph is something less than a second. So it's got to be pretty obvious. If the reader (who probably doesn't know much about your cause) doesn't immediately understand the message, they will pass right by it. And if they don't read the picture, they won't read the story."
    (emphasis mine)

This is good advice IMO, and applies not just to photos in a newspaper, but to people walking/driving by on the street as well.

Simple and clear is good. Generally figure on having 3-5 seconds to make your message seen and/or heard. People are mostly complacent, stupid, self-absorbed morons, with the attention-span of crack addled spider monkeys.

    Good article.
So often you can't read the signs.
    It drives me crazy.
50 people standing on a corner waving signs, and you can't read one of them.

Get one of these wide markers for $4:

Go to the art supply story and get remnants of the foam core board.

    WRITE BIG.

    FEW WORDS.
