Harpoons Victorious! French online poll: re Scientology dissolution

I think you underestimate how litigious the cult is and how willing they are to threaten lawsuits. And if you know of any e-mail answers by all-means post them here.

Closing the poll required programming, it's wasn't a hardware issue. What's this talk of technicians? And MSN had been hit pretty hard for more than two days. They could have closed it whenever they wanted.

See, we gots these things here on planet Earth called time zones. Countervoting stopped around 11am GMT. So you are saying they stopped voting because it was 2pm in Russia and The Middle East?

I sent several E mail to MSN. They never answered.
I have had several message 'deleted' (supprimé) :D :D

Two of them there, when someone wrote a complain on another poll :

Yes, but I don't see any way how anything lawsuit-worthy would have come out of the poll. It was an opinion poll, nothing more. What could they have threatened them with? To sue them for opening an opinion poll on whether Scientology should gtfo of france?

They would have first needed to find out *why* their server is so slow. That requires looking into the traffic statistics which often is done on other hardware, such as routers, that hold these statistics. Then they would have to find out what the actual traffic was doing on the server before they could even know which poll to take down to make this stop. The guy who you sent the complaints to about the poll has not much to do with those who are actually running the servers in the data center as you may recall when he said he'll forward auchraw's mail to the technical team and I call those working and administrating the server in the data center "technicians", independently from whether the actual poll is a software issue.

We don't know for sure when the exact time is (I remember you maintaining they'd still be countervoting until 14am GMT) but the time could be around 2 o'clock in france, which is GMT+1.

Another thing is that the server has been extremely slow for almost two days and they wanted to do something about that. Assuming that Scilons brought about the take-down of the poll gives them more credit than they deserve. The fact stands that their MSN server was pounded pretty badly, and like I said, normally, at a good provider, this condition should have been solved only a few hours after the first problems with their server appeared, like blocking all incoming traffic from those servers that are manipulating the vote.

It seems to me though that the MSN guys haven't learned from this debacle yet. Last time I checked, their polls are just as manipulable as the Scientology poll was.

The same answer: our technical team will look into this. Two full days? They didn't react for more than two weeks. All their polls have the same flaws: they all allow voting to go on indefinitely and they accept multiple voting from the same machine. Without the heavy artillery we might have been still at it in 2010.

I doubt if scifags or our own emails had anything to do with this outcome.

There has been a question about counter-voting.

I didn't note times but they can maybe be tracked in the thread.

29 per cent NON, 6.398 million votes cast = 1.727 million NON votes.
28 per cent NON, 6.770 million votes cast = 1.896 million NON votes.
27 per cent NON, 6.992 million votes cast = 1.888 million NON votes.
26 per cent NON, 7.260 million votes cast = 1.888 million NON votes (within 5 mins of the change).
25 per cent NON, 7.537 million votes cast = 1.884 million NON votes (within a few minutes of change).

I think it shows the NON voters as a body were told to give up.

1.Anons kept and took something away fron scilons they desperatly wanted
2.Anons did not give up in this poll which can be seen as a physical metaphor for the struggle as a whole
3.The possibility that scilons got in trouble for not winning might make some "Think"
4.Maybe they wont try and fuck with another poll...though I may doubt that

How do you define the usefulness of an action in this fight, Ann O' ?
Is dancing in front of an org really THAT usefull ? Spreading 100 fliers is peanuts. Having them distributed almost every week in front of almost every org starts to make the difference.

It was just a french poll, but on the Internetz, and on MSN. That's different. That's globally visible. It was obvious that this poll was important for scilons. They asked for votes (at least if the leaks were real). And they voted.

What is important to our enemy should allways be considered important to us too.

It was a battle in this war, and we won it. No more, no less.

IMHO, IRL protests are useful in many respects, mainly because it shows to authorities, media and general public that something is wrong.

Online activism is useful as it allows to collect, analyze and spread information.

This poll has no importance whatsoever. If scientologists make the mistake to think otherwise, do we have to follow suite ?

As I said, I am happy if people had fun.

Re: Harpoons Victorious! French online poll: re Scientology dissolution

Here is why this poll mattered -

They are constantly fighting an internal battle to keep their [STRIKE]sheep[/STRIKE] followers convinced that the tech they are selling them will give them super powers allowing them to handle any and all of lifes challenges.

They then specifically ordered those [STRIKE]sheep[/STRIKE] followers to try and effect this poll...and all of those [STRIKE]sheep[/STRIKE] followers then witnessed their epic failure to do so.

Every time something like that happens - it's another seed of doubt in the minds of the [STRIKE]sheep[/STRIKE] followers that the tech they have given their lives and money over too is bullshit.

If all the OT's in OT-Land could not "handle" a few SP's and an online poll...how are they then supposed to clear the world, cure disease, etc, etc.

By itself it's not so much, but day after day they are seeing fail after fail...and on some level that has to be reaching some of them.

Re: Harpoons Victorious! French online poll: re Scientology dissolution

It did for us. Loads of scifags got an email asking them to vote in a poll which asked whether scientology should be dissolved in france. How do they reconcile the existence of such a poll with their belief that scientology is the only hope for mankind and they are the most ethical people on the planet? This is futher compounded by the fact that they lost.
It's the same with protests, sometimes just seeing the opposition makes you question.

Also they clearly cared about the poll, so losing enturbulated them.

Re: Harpoons Victorious! French online poll: re Scientology dissolution

The media stopped covering those protests aeons ago, so you might begin to doubt the usefulness of that as well, when compared to the first protests.

    But hey.
  31. Re: Harpoons Victorious! French online poll: re Scientology dissolution

The poll was important because we took away from the Scilons a victory they wanted. Simple as.
Petty? Maybe. But it was lulzy too and that's what made it worth it.

Wishful thinking, Ann makes this complaint every time something fun is done (see: colbert vs xenu)

I agree with the sentiment that doing stuff like this is important to keep spirits up, regardless of the actual effect. Trying to turn absolutely everything into a direct blow against scientology is a bit obsessive and leads to burnout and OCMBism imho

So really, this was like one of those teambuilding activities. Like building a mountain out of furniture, only with less faggotry and more lulz.
