Pretty sure if his lawyer is worth anything at all he won't stand for that.

The solution is simple. Don't register to vote, don't drive, don't get a Cali ID card.

Then you'll never be bothered by those pesky courts and their jury duty!

When I was on staff 20+ years ago, all incoming mail was opened by HCO, and read, and screened, before being put into staff In Boxes. Entheta was discarded (bad news thrown away). This was normal practice. I was shown a policy ages ago by HCO for this, but I can't remember what the policy was.

I do remember that local policy was that each staff member had to agree to this, otherwise it would be "federal offense" and government SPs could use this as a method of attack.

I agreed, because it kept "entheta" (bad news) from disrupting my production.

Hey, I was brainwashed scilon zombie at the time, so I don't expect any anons to believe me this late after the fact.

According to the Riverside County Jury FAQ, there are a couple of other things involved also:

So it looks like you would also need to get off all mailing lists, get rid or your telephone, and shut off your utilities.

Claim to be a Buddhist... I have a friend that has avoided jury duty 4 times because he's a Zen Buddhist..

The LA County Jury Division argued this wasn't sufficient to excuse him from duty because he didn't belong to a temple with a physical address in Los Angeles County..

However, he told the judge in each case that it's against his religion to pass judgement on others. Excused each time.

Its not that hard to avoid serving, if one wishes to.
It is harder avoiding obeying a summons to appear at the courthouse to serve or be excused.

Very true, getting out of jury duty once called is a piece of cake.

Now with the call in / website standby tools you only have to go to the courthouse like 1 day and then an even smaller chance to actually get called to serve.

A few "I like drinking and driving", "that manson guy had a point", "she probably deserved it", "my grandma was killed by a rogue sausage maker!" and blam you're out for 3-5 years till your next summons.

That kind of thing usually works.

Or, as Malcolm X did to get OUT of the army (IIRC during WWII), claim you WANT to be on a jury (in the army) so you can (fill in the blank).

I believe Malcolm said something about liberating his oppressed brothers.
A great story from the autobiography left out of the movie.

Since it may have some bearing both on the sincerity of the Scientology leadership, and on the extent to which they take a dispassionate scientific view of the effects of Scientology processing, it is worth quoting at length the following passages from an HCO Policy letter dated June 7th 1965: -

Correct me if I'm wrong...but can't bench warrants be issued for those who skip jury duty?
  18. subgenius Member

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

    Yep.
A jury summons is in fact a court order (summons) to appear under penalty of law.
A bench warrant authorizes the sheriff to go get you for failing to obey the summons.
  19. Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

I wonder how many warrants have to be issued before there's a full scale raid on GB...hehehe...

Yeah but the culteis would have to lie. Anyone who is critical of Scientology has hidden crimes and SP Declares! Passing judgment is a staple of Smilentology

But the cult will find a way to fuck it up like normal. They will probably show up and picket the Jury Duty offices calling them haters.

Or bigots who work for Eli Lilly and don't want people to "get better".

Still, this is funny as hell. Imagine tiny Davey having to let the prisoners out of the spiked fences because a court says he has to. Better yet, Shelly Miscavige being one of them.

Is there such a thing as never ending jury duty? We eat good here! I have only had rice and beans for the last 10 years.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

Pretty much, if Miscavige wants something one way, we want it the other way.

He wants them exempt because, as stated, HUGE security risk. They can no longer make excuses for not attending short of not being in the area, and it'll begin to raise suspicions if every single cultie just happens to be gone when they come up in the rotation.

Second, they have to let them go on their own. Giving them an escort? Yeah, NOT suspicious! Suddenly cultie is free, on the outside, surrounded by law folks who can protect them should they decide to flee. They're being exposed to the wog world, and wouldn't you know it...it's not that bad. Given this chance, people will be more inclined to blow.

Finally, it's a sign of weakness. Miscavige can't control their world, and slowly it'll be known that he can't control this. The fear begins to disappear just a little, and cracks appear in the facade of totalitarianism. Either he has to step up the terror game (thus risking driving more people to the brink), or he has to find some crazy way of pinning the whole thing as his idea.

Miscavige got screwed, and hard. And I'll be damned, it was AO that did it.

    Let's keep breaking the midget!!

Just how many jury trials do you guy's hold?!?!

I've been called for Jury Duty in NZ twice during my ambiguous number of years alive since I turned 18. (Incidentally, both time got selected, and had some of the most fascinating experiences of my life - I would highly recommend it to anyone!) But getting called once a yearish? that's just twisted! It almost gives the moral high-ground to the people who want to avoid the duty!

At least if you only get called every few (plus a few) years, it makes it fair to go after the jury duty dodgers with a bit of enthusiasm.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

Here in NY you're guaranteed a summons once every 3 to 5 years. The chances of actually landing on a jury? Slim and none.

From that information you should gather that the metro NY area probably holds about 785 jury cases per day with the average jury duty lasting 3 days.

I just pulled those numbers out of my ass but they sound about right.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

That's about what I saw in L.A. County. The one time I couldn't get a deferral, I called in but never got picked.
  33. Anonymous Member

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

AFAIK there is no limit to how many times you can be called for jury duty. A friend of mines sister has been called 6 times and she's only 21. I have been called 5 times in the last 7 years. Don't forget that there is Federal court, County court and City court.
  34. Anonymous Member

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

Actually not here. You get a summons with a call in number, the summons is for all three courts (local/state/federal). You call in/check the website and if you're number gets called you go to one of the three. If your number is then called again you sit in the jury pool for a specific case. They will then voir dire (usually very briefly) and pick 12 + 3 alternates.

If at any of those steps you are not used (ie number not picked/ number not called / not part of the 15) you are then excused from service for 3 to 5 years (depends on how you didn't get called). If you actually serve I think you're excused for like 8 years.

So unless you're living in a town with population of 18 and one of you keeps committing a crime I call troll it troll it.

This should clear up any confusing for the none yanks out there. That's how our system works here.

I wish the lulz were easier sometimes.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

That is not how it works in California, where Gold Base is located.
If you are called, register and serve in any capacity, you are exempt from further service for one year. It doesn't matter if you don't have to go in, whether you're impaneled, chosen as a jury member or serve on a jury (even if it takes months).
One year of exemption, then expect to be called again.

If anyone at Gold is called in, they will be exposed to a whole range of pleasures to which they are unaccustomed. To keep potential jurors somewhat comfortable, there are books, magazines, newspapers and television available.

There is food available in great quantities that is far better than rice and beans. Of course, it must be purchased but it is inexpensive.

There is a half a weeks Sea Org. pay for every day spent reading, eating and watching TV for eight hours instead of slaving for sixteen hours on hard work like shoveling out a cesspool.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

You know, every time these "slaves/prisoners" board their bus, they far outnumber one bus driver, and maybe one or two handlers on board.

At any time, they could rise up and drive off to freedom. Any time. They're bound by mental shackles only and those go where they go. The only hope I see would be from court officials who can see those invisible restraints and also care enough to do what it would really take to remove them. But it could happen.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

In California, the law allows you to be called to jury duty once per year. When you are called, you're given a telephone number to call into to learn whether you have to appear in Court the next day as part of the jury pool.

Many of those that call in during the week are not selected.

Re: Gold Base jury duty exemption voided

they are not all that low..the people at gold base make a pretty large pool of jurors..being several hundred.

at some point there ever one who is a registered to voter is going to get called.
it may take a decade for some..several will at least see the inside of a courtroom as a citizen sooner than later.

the have a right and an obligation to participate in the system.

So...have any of the 'Gold' employees that claimed "under penalty of perjury" not to have transportation available to be able to serve on jury duty been charged yet??
