Tragic. The Japanese people have suffered too much, even before the quake. I don't believe closing 50 mi2 around Fukushima is enough. Clearly, humans are not responsible enough, experienced enough, or capable enough to be trusted with nuclear fission. It's sad, how stupid we are. We just keep repeating the same mistakes in our arrogance. The worst part is, we're probably not far off from yet another nuclear disaster.
That's what the people who caused the earthquake, the tsunami and destroyed the nuclear plant want you to believe.
I updated the blog, here is new sources: http://english.gov.cn/2011-08/16/content_1926446.htm http://ajw.asahi.com/article/0311disaster/fukushima/AJ201108166394 http://articles.economictimes.india...r-samples-n-plant-low-level-radioactive-water http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/08/radioactive-sludge-in-kindergartens-in.html http://vimeo.com/28014740
Christ... Spreading this like teh AIDS. The Japanese government has been intolerably slow and willfully ignorant, while the precious few children the goddamn country has left, given its birthrate, are going to start dropping off from radiation sickness now, or cancer years down the road.
cancer is going to be on the rise not just in japan, but worldwide. thyroid cancer is going to be increasing drastically (chernobyl was credited with 50k+ thyroid cancer cases) in children/young adults in the next 5-15 years.
I think everyone knows it's fucked up over there, you don't explode a nuke power station and not spill some shit. Why is it important that the gov just confirms it?
So that people can make informed decisions about where to live, and to what degree they can expect assistance in rebuilding their lives?

http://enenews.com/london-professor...arns-talk-fukushima-health-effects-be-harmful / Alarmist predictions that the long-term health effects of the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan will be worse than those following Chernobyl in 1986 are likely to aggravate harmful psychological effects of the incident. That was the warning heard at an international conference on radiation research in Warsaw, Poland, this week. One report, in UK newspaper The Independent, quoted a scientist who predicted more than a million would die, and that the prolonged release of radioactivity from Fukushima would make health effects worse than those from the sudden release experienced at the Chernobyl nuclear reactor in Ukraine. “We’ve got to stop these sorts of reports coming out, because they are really upsetting the Japanese population,” says Gerry Thomas at Imperial College London, who is attending the meeting. “The media has a hell of a lot of responsibility here, because the worst post-Chernobyl effects were the psychological consequences and this shouldn’t happen again.” [...]

I thought this was pretty scary http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/08/worlds-safest-cookies-baked-by.html Talk about orwellian
But tabloids should have the right to print Fire! in a crowded theater if it'll boost sales a little.
I was under the impression that was acceptable so long as there is an actual fire burning down said theatre. ...and that everybody chooses to...read the paper during the previews? I guess? I'm getting lost in this analogy.
"One report, in UK newspaper The Independent, quoted a scientist who predicted more than a million would die" No link, it stinks! Who is this scientist that the Independent is quoting? What is he/her a scientist of? Let's see who this person is and if it was at all responsible to quote that person, or if it was all just to sell a few more newspapers. Don't mind me, I'm north of Toronto, and according to someone with an uncalibrated meter, we should all be dead and glowing here. Exercising my right to cry BULLSHIT in crowded moonbattery.
When the Japanese gov't and TEPCO have already shown such contempt for the safety of citizens in the immediate area of the disaster, and such a craven desire to cover their own asses and avoid blame, is it really wise to give any of them the power to silence the media? Can they be trusted not to abuse it given the back-scratching favor-based culture of business and politics in Japan? Wouldn't it be better to critically examine media reports and release well-researched denials, publically shaming shoddy journalism rather than quietly silencing it?
And is Gerry Thomas in a position of power to dictate censorship of any reports, or is she just saying that false reports from scare-junkies are doing more harm than the incident itself, and her words have been scraped of any context by batshit insane people like that ones at enenews, especially the ones in the comments?
Oh fuck me with a chainsaw! I found the Independent's rubbish. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...disaster-is-worse-than-chernobyl-2345542.html Helen fucking Caldicott, the worst professional woo scare-monger to walk the planet! Chris Busby seems to be cut from the same bullshit cloth. Granted that there needs to be a viewpoint different from the Japanese government and nuclear industry, but picking those idiots from the fringe isn't exactly responsible journalism.
Then why the fuck not say "We need to debunk these reports" rather than “We’ve got to stop these sorts of reports coming out"? Gerry Thomas is not in a position of power to dictate censorship, but his endorsement of it can easily empower those who are.
