Yeah. Shouldn't Scientology be legally OBLIGATED to inform past passengers, the way someone diagnosed with AIDS has to contact past sexual partners? I wonder if many Scientologists will start to blow when their own church confesses to them that they knowingly exposed them to a very carcinogenic chemical.

Probably not. One can hope though. I do hope some government sticks it to DM and makes him explain what he did to the people he did it to, though. He can't claim they consented if they don't know. Either way, he's a monster.

    1) They think they're immune to cancer.
    2) I think we should tie this into the Operation: Over the Wall [Postcards from Paradise] or whatever thread that's in Activism/Planning right now. Having a few dozen postcards saying, "I just heard about all the blue asbestos found in the Freewinds, and I know you spent a lot of time there because you are OT7/were Sea Org/etc. Are you okay?"
  5. Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

Yay. They're now landlocked and can't run away from the pokey...

    partyvan anyone?

Hey, since they employ people, wouldn't this be a MASSIVE OSHA deal?

We know to expect footbullets from the Co$, but this is more like a footcannonball.
This has to get major press/legal coverage. If oil companies are held responsible for accidentally leaking their product into the ocean, then by all means, the Co$ should be held responsible for knowingly exposing people to a dangerous carcinogen.

This actually makes the Sea Arrrgh more topical than ever.

"I got to OTVIII and all I got was Mesothelioma!"
    "Freewinds = Tax Exempt Cancer!"
Countless failboat, Failwinds, Agggbestos, etc lines

    Hopefully that will do something...

They won't take it serously, you linked a forum, not direct information.

I already said earlier in this thread, I have a friend that works for OSHA, he looked into it, there is nothing they can do unless the ship is within certain nautical miles of the United States. The freewinds does not enter United States Waters, if and when they do then OSHA could step in.

hmm interesting. I like this idea, but he would know we were coming and blow. But I bet it would irk him to know anonymous showed up at his doorstep

I contacted CDM, the company that was handling the retrofit when the asbestos was "discovered" and pointed them to the Woodcraft declaration & video so that they're aware that the asbestos has been known about for 21 years.

I've got a phone call with 'em tomorrow.

replacement cost of a fully outfitted luxury 'cruise' ship of even this modest size, in 2008 dollars might exceed 50 million dollars 'new'
MARINE TRANSPORTATION CONSULTANTS : CRUISE SHIPS FOR SALE
used ones with recent refits (last ten years) run about 25 million dollars

now... in $cientological terms, The FREEWINDS was the #1 and supposedly most exclusive organization, it is now not just gone but it is worse than gone, it has been preserved in a drydock, so the 'evidence' cannot be simply sunk...meanwhile drydock fees will pile up at 5000 a day (guesstimate)

Ex-members here correct this is wrong: the total Number of "ORGS" has just gone down by 1, the Number of ADVANCED ORGS (there were 3, Freewinds, Sandcastle and Los Angelse AOLA, i think... now there are 2, down by 33%..

To fix this DM will have to cough up in excess of 25 million dollars PLUS he will have to pay off the lawsuits... and there will be a shitpot full 'o those.

Good thing they didn't have tech to cover 'accidentaly' scuttling the boat at sea before going in for costly repairs and being caught with their pants down...

otherwise he would have gotten a hefty insurance payment.

What? You mean these folks can't use all their Super OT powers to heal themselves?

Also, how do you have a Navy without a ship?

    Bwah!

Okay, kidding mode off. I feel bad for these people, I really do. Except Miscavige. He can get cancer for all I care.

Anybody got a throwaway phone? Might be interesting to give that number a call (on the poster) to find out where they're moving the meeting too. If on land, may be a good place to have a 'flash flood' raid (everybody buy a sailor hat!)

Who officially owns the title for the ship? RTC? Sea Org?

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

My best guess for who owns the MV Freewinds would be the I.A.S or an associated entity. IAS was all over the heavy donation gathering efforts of 1985-86. Their strategic HQ was also on board, in the lower decks.

First off, they know about Woodcraft in 2001, the laprensa article mentions him.

Secondly, the ship is owned by "Majestic Cruise Lines di The Church of Scientology" which we knew already.
