Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

I have been wondering for some time if this is not the reason so many OTs in the Sea Org end up with cancer at relatively young ages (40s-50s). And that one reason they are not "allowed" or receive medical treatment early on when their cancers are treatable is because the Cult is afraid of Drs catching on that the patient may have been exposed to a serious carcinogen. So DM decides that it is "better" to just let them die off.

I hope this story gets some legs. Maybe Tony Ortega over at the Village Voice? (hint, hint)

removing the asbestos will be very costly, if possible.

also, while that is done (by qualified professionals, therefore people outside the cult) 10,000 other H&S problems will most likely be found.

I doubt the ships going anywhere again.

optimistic, but still likely I think.

Ahhhh.... finally; third-party verification that this hazard (that a lot of people have spoken about in the past) does indeed exist. Even better -- that they knew about it.

That is one giant-assed can of liability you just heard opening.

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

A paraphrase of the new fund raising letter to be sent out by David Miscavige,
the leader of the amazing shrinking scam of scientology

    Dear $cientologist,

Because the word $cientologist has fallen into such disrepute,. and in an effort to try telling the absolute truth for a change, I will from here on refer to $cientologists as 'rubes'.. okay?

Attention all rubes, because this scam is only about getting your money and retaining as much of your money as possible, and yes it is very expensive to pay lawyers to lie on our behalf to silence those who do not believe Hubbard's lies, and yes we were too cheap to procure a proper vessel for perpetrating the fraud of rube-ology upon your enfeebled minds, and yes we got a good a deal on this rustbucket because the previous owners knew it wold be impossible to remove the asbestos, and YES we knew that the only good rubeologist in scientology is a dead scientologist, because dead people can not sue us for fraud.

So we purchased an old ship cheap that was filled with deadly blue asbestos...and like all bad news that might affect the health of a scientologist we covered it up, because L Ron Hubbard said "If it is true for you it is true for you". So simple, if you do not know about this toxic dust that slowly kills you it will not be true for you, geddit? If you don't you will be sent to cramming at your OWN expense. This is how we keep scientology working. Any questions?

    " Yes, I have a question "

MAA, declare that person an SP and throw them over the side.

    Anyone else have a question?

So after hiding this toxic poison for decades, we now must induce every rube who has ever been on the Freewinds..to do the Purification rundown at their own expense, and yes, you see we have no liability because we did not force you to take your next breath, you literally, "pulled it in" - all those billions of microscopic razors to slowly and silently destroy the cell walls in your lungs, and yes, ironic isn't it, that in your old age as you wheeze and gasp for breath after the asbestos has destroyed your lungs, you will laugh along with me about the name.. ha ha, they even had the nerve to call it the "Free Winds"... while you beg for your next breath....

Oh and rubes, we need you to donate more money so we can buy another ship to take you beyond the 10 mile limit where we can really practice scientology without interference of the supressive psychiatric controlled governments of the world.

Send your check, money order, credit cards, stock certificates, property titles TODAY to

    I am a rube

"11. No one on the ship knew anything about asbestos, nor did they care. I
thought to myself, the Church has been tricked into buying a cruise ship for
$11 million that is a total liability, that is so full of lethal asbestos, the
only option is to sink it in deep water. If asbestos remains permanently wet
it is not dangerous, it is dangerous when dried out and flaking, releasing
fibers in the air that are then breathed in. To me this seemed a daunting,
enormous problem. How could the church possibly bring their public
parishioners to this ship and expose them to such a hazardous substance. I
thought that the legal liability alone would terrify them (As a new Sea Org.
member I didn't know at this time the scientologists cannot sue the Church).
Around this time Bitty Miscaviage visited the ship. She was the Church
executive with overall responsibility for the ship project. I went to her and
took copies of the ships blueprints and showed her the full extent of asbestos
on the ship. At first she was calm, but as I further explained the dangers,
she begun to realize that it was a problem. We had a meeting to discuss the
problem of asbestos. Steve Kisacky stated that L. Ron Hubbard doesn't state in
policy that asbestos is dangerous; he only states that fiberglass is dangerous
and therefore we are only removing the fiberglass. In fact, the dock next to
the Freewinds was piled high with fiberglass that had been removed by Sea Org
members. It was explained to me that the ship was being remodeled only
according to the written policies and "advices" of L. Ron Hubbard. Since
Hubbard had been in the US Navy and had then founded the Sea Org and had run a
fleet of ships, he knew everything about ships. If asbestos was dangerous, he
would have written this somewhere. Also Hubbard knew everything about cancer.
He had written that cancer was caused by the mind and specifically second
dynamic aberration (problems with relationships). I was told that people only
get sick if they go into "agreement" with being sick. As the ship was going to
be filled with "operating thetans" doing the highest level in Scientology (OT
    8) nothing was going to make them sick. I was being a "wog"
(non-scientologist) worrying about a little thing like asbestos."

The freewinds has been SHUT DOWN.

There will be no more Freewinds...

Just lawsuits and greedy lawyers crawling out from under their desks where they have been hiding from scientology for decades, while telling us how courageous they are to seek justice for those hoaxed by the dwarf's scam.

You now any exes who took classes / worked on the freewinds and should ever (hopefully not) come down with cancer you have an awesome lawsuit on your hands.

If there was an attempt to cover it up...well nice job DM, nice job on that.

I guess exposing members to carcinogens instead of spending money fixing it was the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics.

And RIGHT HERE is a fail safe class action law suit which could bankrupt the cult, which could be launched on behalf of both public and staff who were enticed/forced to spend vast amounts of time on a ship that upper management KNEW was filled with asbestos without informing either the public or staff. Even Tommy Cruise has grounds to be a suit complainant!

Let the greedy class-action seeking lawyers loose to do battle with the greedy retained Co$ lawyers!

And DM better lawyer up personally, real fast.

They're aiming at the Cat People demographic, of course.
  23. Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

For or any real religion, donations and such are ostensibly chiefly used for maintenance of church property, paying pastors, and other employees and eventually construction of new buildings, etc. You'd think that with all of the millions of dollars scientology has to burn, that they'd actually do something with it? I mean, they could basically finance a brand new ship, or at least buy and refit a couple which cruise lines are retiring, something they do relatively often. I mean, look: princess cruises flagships cost them only about $450 million, and they're pretty freaking huge, modern boats--and well within the grasp of scientology, and that cost could be spread out over 50 years.

You have to wonder where all that dough goes.

I found the Daily Herald in question, but they don't have the story on their interbuttz. You journalists out there may want to contact the Curacao Drydock Company. If you can understand moonspeak, you can probably navigate the government's website to talk to Eugene Rhuggenaath (Economic Affairs) or Humphrey Davelaar (Public Health).

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

I know that *we* (critics) have known about the blue asbestos for years. There have been many, many accounts describing it on ARS / OCMB.

Now that the cat is "officially" (and undeniably) out of the bag, I think the important question is now:

How do we let the rank-and-file Scientologists who have been exposed asbestos know what's happened to them -- and that the CoS knew about the risk all along?

You can be sure the CoS isn't going to run around volunteering this information.

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

This is huge!! It's disgusting that they've got away with this. This has to hit the media big-time. Lawrence Woodcraft (isn't that Astra's father?) told them about it years ago, so there's evidence that they've been covering it up. Didn't Jason Beghe say he's been on the Freewinds (and that it was a piece of crap). Hopefully a lawsuit will result from this soon...

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

I can't comment on the Freewinds - never been on it, never worked on it.

But I did work at the Celebrity Center building in Hollywood while on the RPF. We routinely handled asbestos around water pipes while wearing a standard ($0.39) dust mask. If/when we removed it, we sprayed it with a hose so that it would get wet, and then put the chunks of asbestos into black hefty bags and threw them away. It felt like soft chalk.

In retrospect, it's obvious now that they were trying to avoid paying asbestos contractors to remove the stuff.

Irony? We were coached to be very, very careful around fiberglass insulation because of the hazard of the minute glass fibers. But the attitude around asbestos was very cavalier, at best.

Perhaps this was so that we felt like our health was being watched over?

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed

It's called good, or "responsible" stewardship. My church sends out an itemized list every year of donations and salaries to each member.

Come to think of it (since the Sci's are supposed to be a "church") - I read there was a congressional committee investigating "churches" such as TBN (Paul and Jan Crouch), Benny Hinn, Paula White......all the usual suspects, for their extravagant lifestyles and questionable tax exempt status. Wonder if the Scilons are on that list? Hmmmmm.

Interesting timing here. Arnie and others- I am trying to compile information regarding cancer statistics in Scientology. Anyone know of any resources that would start leading in that direction?

I know that the death rate trends higher than average due to delay in treatment, but had thought the incidence rate followed the norms. Now I am thinking that there is a value to looking more deeply. Any direction or information would be much appreciated.

Holy crap I'm sorry- hope you have no lasting health effects.

The reason for the fiberglass is in the Lawrence Woodcraft declaration: LRH said something about fiberglass being dangerous, but didn't say anything about asbestos. That's the reasoning the used on the freewinds- since LRH knew everything about cancer and he never said anything about asbestos so it's not a problem.

    Yikes.
