If I remember correctly, Abetz is a very religious man, and one of those who blocked the Senate inquiry on principal grounds. He stated that the law rather than the Senate was the right authorities for dealing with scientology. It seems he has made good on his words. I was about to fire of a sharply worded letter to him last year, but now I'm glad I didn't.

    nice!
They also should investigate how COS can make a staff member feel afraid to leave.
COS offers no references, no work history files and scare the staff members into thinking that they if they leave they will be homeless or flipping burgers. (I have heard that some members were told this)
It is just another way of keeping their members "in". Instead of a resume or references, they are met with possible fair game and no communication with people they worked with or for.

I still do not see how this is even legal. Preventing someone from finding employment after they leave COS also contributes to the unemployment rate.

I wonder if the ombudsman would be wanting to talk to EX-scientologists in its investigation. You know, people who aren't compelled to lie and obfuscate.

What it means is, children being underpaid is irrelevant because of child labor laws, I'm guessing. It's illegal to work minors instead of educating them. Come up to present time, cult. The Victorian age of little match girls and boy factory workers is over.

    Enjoy your probe(s) Cyrus! :D

Good find! I hope info like this is being put to good use.

This was pushed by the aussie ex's, but I can't find the ESMB thread at the moment...

Children working in the US is legal so long as they are not prevented from going to school. If your school district and local DHHS is worth shit they will pay a visit every year to see what is going on. If they think that the child is not going to school they will cut you off from any benefits and place your child in foster care. It is not legal for the legal and written guardians to collect benefits if the child is not living in the same household as the guardians. If the child as more than one guardian living in separate homes, the money goes to the household the child is living in. The child must attend school within the district the child's household is located. What ever the child earns must be counted within the the child's current household's yearly income.

That's encouraging.... authorities actually listening and then acting upon it. A nice change from the usual norms.
