Family asks about you because they care. Sometimes reality isn't always pretty. But what is important is how you deal with it. Face it head on. Leave the "Good roads, Fair weather" BS to the Hubbard zombies. Family is meant to be there to lean on each other. If you can trust your daughter to be there for you, then maybe she can trust you to be there for her. Also I suck for butting in where I don't belong.

You cannot add stress to a soldier. Things need to honest and upbeat. Yes, it's a lie by ommission, and I'm trying not to do that these days, but sometimes it's in the best interest, especiallt where a deployed soldier is involved. I missed this FRG ( Family Readiness Group) pre-deployment briefing (different states) but the first one was long and detailed on what to say and not to say...IE no dear John and Jane letters, no addl' stress, and good truths. This kid is always pushing her limits and is not a "mail clerk" over there, so I will not say anything until she's stateside to upset her. Normal little kids bickering in their letters give her a sence of home. Scientology need not come up in discussion.
