I'm really impressed. I'm really eager to see what he says/does.

I had a look at the main list again and she seems to be in the Anti-Drug section, so you're right. I'll take this there. :D

Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

I'd like to see an email going to Brad Sherman (and any other politicians) inviting a written response to our questions, before advising the other side. After all, it seems highly likely that some/many thought they were advocating for human rights, not the CoS. So, it's not really "dirt".

In my email to David Clarke, I let him know that the information would be made available to the international press and he knows that I'm going to post his response here.

I'm in the process of making contact with a journalist who has demonstrated interest in Anonymous to date.

    Plups -

There is no doubt you have taken my OP about this to the core....I applaud you to the days end.....

My post about "notifying" the other sides should be taken seriouly though....there is nobody that knows how to exploit info like this better than the political camps..... trust me...

Obviously you don't want Brad Sherman elected again right? Then send the info to his opponets!

Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

I can now report that I had a long conversation with David Clarke (member of the NSW state parliament, Australia) this morning. He thanked me for bringing this matter to his attention.

He has already spoken with the person in Youth for Human Rights with whom he'd had contact and expressed his objection to the way in which the clip of him was being used and said he wanted the clip taken out (of the context in which it was being used).

He said he thought the public service advertisements were well done and if the video had purely been about human rights, he would have been happy to be involved. However, he said the video is quite clearly promoting Scientology and he said his intention was to support human rights, not Scientology, or any other philosophy for that matter.

He said he was aware at the time that some of the people involved were Scientologists (as well as of other religious backgrounds) and that did not concern him at all. However, he is certainly not endorsing Scientology.

At the time of our conversation, David Clarke had not read the material provided in my email regarding the relationship between YHR and CoS, nor about the human rights matters. He said he was "just so annoyed" that he got straight onto YHR to tell them to take the clip out of the video, because the video has a wider purpose other than the one he thought the clip was for.

However, he said he would read the material I had sent and asked that I keep him informed of any developments. He described this as "a wake-up call" and said that people should be up-front about these things.

He had not heard of Anonymous. I promised to send him some links to articles giving the background.

    I sent him the following:
    Scientology 'raids' in nearly 100 cities - http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,25642,23189971-5014239,00.html - 11 February 2008

Not my part - OUR part, xenu55. This one truly was a group effort.

The video is "In support of Human Rights". (Protip: it's the video that this thread is about) ;)

Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

Xenu55, I don't know enough about Brad Sherman to know whether his re-election is or is not a good thing. I suppose I'd prefer that we assume "innocent until proven guilty". Before we burn the relationship, why not see where he stands and whether, like David Clarke, he might even call the CoS out (if they've misrepresented him)! I'd rather have a congressman on-side and educated than not.

Plups, that is AWESOME. His reply is just fantastic, and I can so imagine how annoyed he was - having words taken out of context for any purpose is not something that anyone wants. I'm so glad to read your follow up and I loved that he said this was a wake up call. This is excellent!

Hey found this on ars with some interesting comments on it. They were looking into this before it appeared on entrub. I remember one anon saying he was looking at a video with a high rank church guy that looked strange but the vid was taken down. I found this in their comments
"The best was the famous Urbano Alonso Galan, the one who was presented as
the President of Oecumenic Councils, while nobody but th e Pope can ever be
    named at such a title."
Also one seems to have downloaded previous scientology propaganda films. Maybe they'll be able to help if anyone wants to e-mail them their e-mail addys are on the page.

Interesting. I always thought it was fishy that the guy mentioned Hubbard by name instead of just saying something generic on human rights.

Anyway, there is a professor in that same department with ties to the CCHR.

    Hai guys

    http://www.bakchich.info/article3152.html

Here is a new article from Bakchich, here are the main ideas, it's mainly about the french dude suposely from Marseille's mayor office:

They confirm the identidy of the man is Abel Djerari.
His speach was for a small association "No to drugs, yes to live" , he knew the leader of this asociation was a scientologist, but his speech was about human rights; he didnt wanted to support scientology.
He WAS actualy a "conseiller d'arondissement" ( advisor on a part of the city ) but not anymore and has never been in the mayor's office.

The last part of the article is about the epic failure of Djerari at different local elections.

Cheers, let me know if you want a complet translation.

On a side note, its scary to think what this could do internally to their video propaganda wing. Exposing this is going to probably mean a lot of internal declares and rpf for their golden era team.

The Community Relations Commission in New South Wales is the only organisation that comes up.

    From http://www.directory.nsw.gov.au/

They have a pdf of members of staff from 2001 here:

    http://www.crc.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0012/1146/member_staff.pdf

There are pics of the Commissioners at that point on the 3rd page.

None of them match, but the 3 women who are on the current list (emphasis mine) are harder to find pictures of.

I'll keep looking, but any Australians fancy giving these guys a call?

    Rev. Zedar E Broadous
    http://humanrelations.co.la.ca.us/about/commissioners.htm

Just made contact with him - he was driving and so he wanted me to email him the information, which I have done. He did tell me that he remembered doing a video for "Human Rights", but was not aware that it was a Scientology video.

I will let you know what I hear from him... this one could be really good as he was the president of the SFV chapter of the NAACP and is no stranger to protests. Oh, and he's a *real* Reverend :)

As far as I can tell, there is no such thing as a representative to the EU from another country. In contrast, there are EU representatives to other countries. Anyone else have better luck?

    I will - sending now.
  25. Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

The only information I can find is this, from the EUROPA whoiswho site.

    KATENTA-APULI Stephen Tinkasimire
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Head of the Mission of the Republic of Uganda to the European Communities
    Avenue de Tervuren 317
    B-1150 Bruxelles
    Tel: (32-2) 762 58 25
    Fax: 763 04 38

KATENTA-APULI is his last name. There are some pictures on google and it doesn't look a lot like our man. He's based in Brussels at the Ugandan embassy.

I think that this might be Advisor Bience P. Gawanas. Check out the picture (and imagine softer lighting and heavy makeup): http://www.africa-union.org/root/au/Conferences/2008/january/sa/statement/Pict1.jpg

Regardless, I have sent her an email and if it is not her, hopefully she will know who it is.

The first question I had when lookng at the video is why didnt the makers of this ID the interviewees by name, along with their titles. That to me is sooo freaking suspicious! Thanks for all the fact checking! Fascinating!

The CoS is just so used to getting away with blatent propaganda and misrepresentation. Hey, it works on the troops -- why not the public?

    Not on our watch.

That's a very good article. I didn't read the comments, but the meat of that article is basically 'one of these things is not like the other.'

The last paragraph (quick and dirty translation here):

I can translate the rest, if you want. :)

Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

I've been poking around. A media article I saw on Indymedia, I think (well... somewhere on the net, talking about this) said explicitly that the CRC denied any knowlege of their spokesmen or commissioners talking about this.

Also, Sydney doesn't have a commissioner. They're supposed to be statewide.
  36. Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

    Found CRC's 2007 Annual report: http://www.crc.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/5113/Part_5.pdf

It has a list of meetings attended by Commissioners, individually. Here is said list

    S Kerkyasharian
    M Marx
    W Ahmed
    M Aquino
    T Baena
    K Banh
    M Christodoulou
    E Jupiter
    L Kamleh
    N Maruncic
    A Vongsaya
    G Watts

Doesn't eactly match the earlier list I found so I'll check the rest of the names.

    EDIT: Found this: http://www.crc.nsw.gov.au/about_crc/commissioners

Not one of 'em looks even remotely similar.

The list of former Commissioners is long though.

    Still, we're getting there.

Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

Just got an email back from Bience Gawanas this morning:

So unfortunately I still do not have the name, but at least the item is being forwarded on...
  38. Re: Fact-Checking CoS Video "In Support of Human Rights"

This one has been nagging me because it is sooo shady. A academic head using his title and saying "L. Ron Hubbard had the courage and the vision." Who in such a position would do that?

    2349328229_4ea25019a3.jpg

So I used the wayback machine to look at American University's Department of Justice, Law, and Society at different years to find who it could be.

As we know from earlier, the title doesn't exist as listed on the screen. The real title would be "Professor and Chair, Department of Justice, Law and Society"

Here are the last few chairs of the department from now going back to 2000:

    golash.jpg

She is the one Plups got an email from. She said she doesn't recognize the guy in the video. This is impoartant because she has been with the department since before 2000.

    bennett.jpg images.jpg
This is her predecessor, Richard R. Bennett. He is still a professor at the school. He kinda sorta looks like the guy in the video, but 1) the eye color is wrong, and 2) the current chair would certainly recognize him, right?

Here are the two chairs before him. The last one goes back to at least 2000.

    lynch.jpg
    untitled.jpg

    No luck there.

I looked at other "American Universities" like "of Beirut," but still nothing.

It would help if they put, y'know, names above the job titles. Shady, vewwy shady.

Thoughts? Anyone else investigating this guy?
