    Eugene Volokh on Hate Speech

    Eugene Volokh is a cool guy. He is a professor of constitutional law at UCLA with an interest in Church state relations.

    He runs a group legal blog called "The Volokh Conspiracy" and blogs also at The Huffington Post.

    He has blogged on Epic Nose Guy and the Riverside Protesting Ordinance.

    Today he has written on hate speech:

    From a UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center study titled Hate Speech on Commercial Talk Radio:
    Types of Hate Speech

    We identified four types of speech that, through negative statements, create a climate of hate and prejudice: (1) false facts [including "simple falsehoods, exaggerated statements, or decontextualized facts [that] rendered the statements misleading"], (2) flawed argumentation, (3) divisive language, and (4) dehumanizing metaphors (table 1).

    So basically what this says is that scientology is nothing but hate speech.

    No it's not just hate speech.

    There's also space opera.

    Our entire culture is guilty of hate speech vs. science.
