Not looking to derail. Just making a comment on about a comment. What is going on in Egypt right now is amazing, a little frightening and very important. Hopefully everything turns out alright for them.

A colleague of mine is from Jordon, she is a lawyer and she said basically the same thing. She finds its uncanny that American's don't realize how free they are. She tells tales of buying regular woman's magazine and it was normal to see pages either blacked out or missing.

The idea was to support democracy, the people, in the Middle East and it would spread as people got a taste of freedom. As I recall the haggis of the state department was vocal in their assessments against the idea.
