    EFF's Takedown Hall of Shame

    Quoting Slashdot:

"Recognizing that public shame is a potent weapon, the Electronic Frontier Foundation today launched a new Web site — its Takedown Hall of Shame — that will shine an unflattering spotlight on those corporations and individuals who abuse copyright claims to stifle free speech. Among the early inductees are NPR, NBC, CBS, and Diebold."

I do believe that a certain organization is missing from the list.

    Lets fix this.

This should be easy. How do we make a submission?

Possibly just some sort of oversight. EFF has a lot of active members. Perhaps the persons that created this page weren't fully aware of the work EFF has done regarding DMCA takedowns of Anon YouTube videos.

This might just be a matter of putting these EFF'rs in touch with those EFF'rs. It seems likely that those EFF'rs would agree that the cults antics are worthy of inclusion.

So who knows how to get in touch with those EFF'rs?

It's gorgeous. I bet a Scientology category would earn them a lot of web traffic.

And if Scilons try to sue for libel, they'd get their asses handed to them. Suing EFF is like suing the ACLU.

I say, DO IT FAGGOTS. You have my harpoons.

Re: EFF's Takedown Hall of Shame

This goes far, far beyond our youtube videos.

CoS has been one of the very first organizations to use the DMCA to silence online critics. They used it to stop any mention of "Xenu" en-mass'e in the 90's, even effectively forcing Slashdot to censor a comment.

They're a classic case of DMCA abuse. That'd be like Coca Cola forcing Digg to remove any mentioning of the word "Coke" from its comments section.

I'm sure we can get the EFF to include them. Its just a matter of knowing where to harpoon.

My bad, should have included this in the get go - this address accepts "wall of shame" candidates: takedowns @ eff.org
  9. Re: EFF's Takedown Hall of Shame

Just logged in to make a similar thread and saw I'd been beaten to the punch. In the bottom right-hand corner of the page there's a "Submit an Honoree" section. I'm not too familiar with Ollie and that mass DMCA by American Rights Counsel or whatever it was, but I know plenty of people are. In fact the EFF had a story about it.

Someone with all the info that is so frequently discussed in the Youtube and Vimeo Problem forum should send an informative submission for the scilons. Include the link to their own story for bonus points. I'll write one soon, but I really suggest someone more informed on the subject write a better one.

I talked to them specifically about adding Ollie yesterday. They said that Ollie and Scientology were both in the running, but had not made it to the final selection. They said it was actually a pretty heated debate on that one.

I was also told that more people will be added at a later date. So they will be near the top of the list for that.

Who cares what the scilons say. It's Joe Public who will see it and decide to find out about this nasty cult.

    Excellent.

Would love to be a fly on the wall listening to that debate.

what happened to the creed of CoS
    #7
That all men have inalienable rights to think freely,to talk freely their own opinions and to counter or utter or write upon the opinions of others.

One more hypocritical example of the nasty cult.

Tried my own harpoon to get the cult in. Let's see if it works.

Re: EFF's Takedown Hall of Shame

Don't hijack this resource. EFF is fucking awesome, and this page kicks ass. Scientology belongs up there, definitely - and as with any open-source project defending free speech, they will inevitably get their deserved mention.

But as someone who values free speech above almost all else, I'd rather encourage you to use the site NOT as 'chanologists', but as lovers of free speech. Help them form a COMPREHENSIVE list of those who fight against freedom. Actively participate. Help it grow in scope AND in influence. We want ANY organization that stands against freedom to feel shamed; make it happen.

But yeah, make sure scientology gets its deserved place soon ;)

Re: EFF's Takedown Hall of Shame

Wait, a Takedown Hall of Shame we can submit Scientology to, and you want to submit it because of Ollie? Lolwut?

    Okay, either

    1) I'm missing something here and/or misread the EFF's page on the matter
    or
    2) I think you forgot something far more interesting.
