One person was killed Saturday when at least two gunmen opened fire at a Copenhagen blasphemy seminar in what police said was an apparent assassination attempt on a Swedish artist who had received death threats for publishing caricatures of the prophet Mohammed.
Lars Vilks was hustled into a side room of the Krudttoenden cafe by bodyguards and was unharmed. At least two police officers were wounded, Danish TV2 reported. Police said the dead victim was a 40-year-old man.

Police said it wasn't immediately clear whether the incident was linked to an earlier shooting at a cultural center that killed one person and wounded two police officers.

Shots fired at Copenhagen synagogue: Danish police | Reuters
One person was shot in the head and two police were wounded in an attack on a synagogue in central Copenhagen, Danish police said, adding that it was too early to say whether the incident was connected to an earlier one at an arts cafe.
Danish television station TV2 said a large metro and train station nearby, Norreport, was being evacuated.
The news followed a shooting attack earlier Saturday on a cafe which hosted a debate on freedom of speech and was attended by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has been threatened with death for his cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad. One man died in that attack, and police said a suspect was still at large.

By William J. Gorta, NBC News, May 3, 2015
A police officer and two suspects who may have had explosives were shot Sunday outside a "Draw Muhammad" contest in Garland, Texas, police told NBC News.
Police were still examining a suspicious vehicle Sunday night outside the Curtis Culwell Center, Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said.
The contest was described as a "free speech" event by its sponsor, the American Freedom Defense Initiative. It offered a $10,000 top prize and featured Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who is known for his anti-Muslim views, as its speaker.

Two Gunmen Open Fire Outside Muhammad Cartoon Contest in Texas; Bomb Squad on Scene: Police
GARLAND, Texas (TheBlaze/AP) — A contest for cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a Dallas suburb was put on lockdown Sunday night and attendees were being evacuated after authorities reported a shooting outside the building.
An officer dressed in SWAT gear took the stage toward the end of the event at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland and told attendees, including an Associated Press reporter, that a shooting had occurred. He said one officer — who was later released from the hospital — and two suspects were shot. Both suspects were reported dead on Sunday.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the shooting was related to the event. The city of Garland later issued the following statement on the incident:
Two idiots with AK47s, and they can't manage more than wounding an officer before being killed?
Hopefully there will real information on who these bozos were.

A senior FBI official has confirmed that one of the suspects in the attack in Garland has been identified as Elton Simpson, an Arizona man who was previously the subject of a terrorism investigation, ABC News reports.
FBI agents and a bomb squad reportedly converged on Simpson's apartment in Phoenix, where police were conducting an initial search with a robot.
KPNX-TV (Channel 12), an NBC affiliate in Arizona, reported that the two suspects had been roommates. The second man, though, has not been named officially or in media accounts.
'This is a war': The woman behind anti-Islamic Muhammad cartoon contest and her long history of hatred
Blogger Pamela Geller, 56, president of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, has been highly critical of Islam for years
Geller's group was behind anti-Islamic ads that began appearing on New York City buses and subway entrances last year
She said Sunday that the shooting showed how 'needed our event really was'

Geller told the AP before Sunday's event that she planned the contest to make a stand for free speech in response to outcries and violence over drawings of Muhammad.
Cartoon contest organizer known for inflammatory rhetoric
By Meghan Barr, The Associated Press
The Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest that exploded in violence over the weekend in Texas was organized by Pamela Geller, a New Yorker who rails against Islam with such ferocity that one of the nation's top civil rights groups lists her in its "extremist files."
Geller has been involved in numerous lawsuits across the U.S. in recent years, many of them related to her attempts to display incendiary ads in public transit systems.
Most recently, New York City's transit authority banned all political advertising after a judge upheld Geller's right to run bus ads about Islam that said, "Killing Jews is worship that draws us close to Allah."
In 2012, the transit authority was forced to run Geller ads that read: "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."
She paid for similar ads in San Francisco, Detroit and Washington.
In 2013, Geller and a colleague were barred from entering Britain to attend a march that ended in the London neighborhood where a British soldier was killed by Islamic extremists.

Geert Wilders speech at Draw Muhammad Cartoon Contest
"The 'Draw Muhammad Cartoon Contest' came to be after the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack. CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) held a 'Stand with the Prophet' event.
This didn't sit well with Pamela Geller and the AFDI who put together the $10,000 prize event.
It featured speakers such as JihadWatch's Robert Spencer and Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
Bosch Fawstin, a former Muslim, won the contest.
What happened? Islamic terrorists decided to attack the free speech event and were gunned down."
