Michael Jackson wrongful death trial to open - CNN

The Michael Jackson wrongful death trial, which promises dramatic revelations and legal fireworks, begins in a small Los Angeles courtroom with opening statements Monday.

Jurors earning $15 a day will listen to several months of testimony before deciding whether one of the world's largest entertainment companies should pay Jackson's mother and three children billions of dollars for its liability in the pop icon's death.

Famous Jackson family members, including Janet, will sit just a few feet from the jury as Michael's oldest son and daughter describe their father's last days. But they will also endure weeks of tedious testimony from medical and financial experts offering opinions about the singer's health, addiction and career.

Only a handful of journalists and a few members of the public will be allowed inside the courtroom because many of its 45 seats are reserved for parties involved in the trial, including the Jackson family. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied CNN's request to televise the trial.

Pretrial hearings have featured angry and personal exchanges between lawyers for the two sides, made more intense by the intimacy of the tiny courtroom.

The central issue is simple: Did AEG Live, the company promoting Jackson's comeback concerts in 2009, hire or supervise Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's June 25, 2009, death?

    Third times the charm, no?

I'm surprised there isn't groves of maids/butlers/servants coming out of the woodwork claiming they seen him molest children.

Edit: Ok WTF is going on with WWP today? First there is a lag between postings. Now the quotes are getting all messed up.

Jurors hear voicemail saying Jackson was sick

By Linda Deutsch, The Associated Press

Five days before Michael Jackson died, his manager called the singer's doctor, told him Jackson was sick, and implored him to have blood tests done, according to a voicemail played Thursday in court.

The message left by Frank Dileo was retrieved by police from the cellphone of Dr. Conrad Murray and played during the trial of a negligence lawsuit filed by Jackson's mother against concert promoter AEG Live.

"I'm sure you're aware he had an episode last night," the message said. "He's sick ... We gotta see what he's doing."

Plaintiff's lawyer Brian Panish acknowledged outside court that the episode occurred on the day Jackson was told by Kenny Ortega, the director of his "This is It" concert, to go home from a rehearsal because he was pale and shivering.

Panish suggested that if Dileo was aware of the incident, so were AEG executives.

The lawsuit claims AEG didn't properly investigate Murray, who was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors said he gave Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic Propofol.

Michael Jackson's doctor was 'in desperate financial straits' says trial witness

    By Brandon Lowrey, Reuters

Michael Jackson's personal doctor was in financial and legal troubles at the time of the singer's death, a Los Angeles detective testified on Wednesday in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by Jackson's family against concert promoters AEG Live.

Conrad Murray was "in desperate financial straits," and under legal pressure with liens against his property in Nevada, Los Angeles police detective Orlando Martinez told a jury in the civil trial.

Martinez, who investigated Jackson's 2009 death, said Murray had unpaid student loans, was behind on credit card bills and owed rent for his business.

Murray, who had asked for $5 million to care for the singer, was convicted in 2011 for Jackson's involuntary manslaughter of Jackson through an overdose of powerful anesthetic Propofol weeks before a planned series of 50 concerts.

Martinez was the second witness called by attorneys for Jackson's family. A paramedic who tended to Jackson after the overdose, testified on Tuesday that Murray had appeared "frantic," "pale" and "sweating" but never mentioned that Jackson had taken Propofol, which is typically used in surgical settings.

Michael Jackson to mime at O2 Arena shows | The Sun

    By Pete Samson

Frail Michael Jackson was unable to sing and dance at the same time as he prepared for his comeback shows, documents reveal.

Bombshell emails between execs at concert organisers AEG show the King of Pop was set to lip-synch to old recordings at London’s O2 Arena.

The exchanges will be used by the Jackson family in their £25.7billion lawsuit against AEG. They say pressure over the gigs contributed to his death in 2009.

A coroner's expert says pop singer Michael Jackson had levels of drugs in his body consistent with someone undergoing major surgery on the day he died in 2009.

The 50-year-old died from an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol, given by his doctor Conrad Murray to help the singer with chronic insomnia during rehearsals for a doomed series of concerts in London.

Daniel Anderson, a Los Angeles County coroner's office criminalist, testified that Jackson also had lidocaine, diazepam, nordiazepam, lorazepam, and midazolam in his system. But he said the propofol was of most concern.

"It raises a red flag in my eyes. It's very problematic to find it outside the hospital setting," he told the LA Superior Court. Mr Anderson said the level of the drug found in Jackson's body - 3.2 milligrams per millilitre of blood - was "consistent with major surgery anaesthesia".

Cardiologist says Michael Jackson's doctor was unfit to save him

A cardiologist testified Tuesday that Michael Jackson's doctor gave his famous patient incorrect treatment when he noticed the singer had stopped breathing as a result of a powerful anesthetic the physician had administered.

Dr. Daniel Wohlgelernter, who has taught at Yale and UCLA and practices in Santa Monica, said that Dr. Conrad Murray used chest compressions when he saw that Jackson was in distress, rather than focusing on getting his breathing restarted.

Jackson died after Murray administered a fatal dose of propofol, a drug usually used in medical settings and most often administered to patients undergoing surgery.

Instead of a cardiologist like Murray, the expert witness said that Jackson needed a doctor who was trained in addiction medicine, substance abuse and sleep disorders.

Since Jackson had no evidence of heart disease, Murray was not an appropriate choice to treat him, the witness said.

Wohlgelernter called Murray's treating of Jackson “a mismatch. It’s not what he needs.”

Wohlgelernter said Jackson "was not fit and competent in so far as he administered medications he was not trained and credentialed to administer and administered them in a whole unsatisfactory environment."

Wohlgelernter testified that propofol should be given only in a hospital setting and administered by an anesthesiologist because there is a risk the patient can stop breathing.

Cardiologists, like Murray, “are not competent to administer propofol,” he said.

    Conrad Murray to Jackson Family:

Mark My Words, I Will Destroy You

'Consider This an Imminent Nuclear Warning'

You want the truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

At least that's what Dr. Conrad Murray is saying to AEG and the Jackson family, claiming he's prepared to drop a nuclear bomb on the entire wrongful death lawsuit if he's forced to testify ... a bomb that neither side can begin to fathom ... and that will blow both sides out of the water.

It's the second time Murray's threatened AEG and the Jackson family with destructive testimony, suggesting he's been keeping a bombshell secret for years regarding Michael and the singer's true relationship with his family -- but the latest threat is borderline scary.

Murray made the threat in a recent voicemail message to a friend, pleading with AEG and the Jacksons for one last time to leave him in peace and spare him from testifying.

He says, "Please stop. If you don’t, let this serve as my final warning to both sides. Don’t incite me to testify. Consider this as an imminent nuclear warning. Enough is enough." He then hints at the nature of his "nuclear" secret.

Murray was subpoenaed to testify in Katherine's $40 billion lawsuit against AEG -- but he pled the 5th because he doesn't want to incriminate himself in any upcoming legal proceedings ... after he appealed to overturn his manslaughter conviction.

Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe just broke down in tears while testifying in the MJ wrongful death trial, claiming the singer's doctors held a "pissing match" to outdo each other by giving Jackson the "better" drugs ... a competition that fueled his deadly drug addiction.

On the stand, Rowe pointed the finger at two doctors specifically -- Dr. Arnie Klein and Dr. Steven Hoefflin -- claiming MJ trusted them to prescribe his pain medication, and they consistently tried to one-up the other by giving MJ increasingly stronger doses of painkillers.

Rowe said Dr. Conrad Murray then "got in there and killed him." She added, "I was probably one of the only ones who said no to MJ."

Rowe said MJ had a notoriously low tolerance for pain, which paved the way for the abuse of painkillers like Demerol and Diprivan.

Rowe called Klein and Hoefflin idiots for going back and forth at the same time, trying to outdo each other and not looking out for MJ's best interest.

Conrad Murray: Michael Jackson Hired Me and Hated AEG | TMZ

Michael Jackson -- NOT AEG -- hired Dr. Conrad Murray and MJ actually kept AEG at complete arm's length on issues of medical treatment, because he felt a bunch of snakes ran the concert promotion company -- and these are the words of Conrad Murray captured on tape.

TMZ has obtained a voice mail Murray recently left on a friend's answering machine. If it were testimony in the wrongful death trial, it could be explosive. Among other things, Murray says:

-- Michael personally offered him the job of being his doctor on the "This Is It" tour

-- AEG actually wanted to hire a less expensive doctor, but Michael got his way with Murray

-- AEG never ordered Murray to give MJ any specific medical treatment. All requests came from Michael

-- AEG was not even aware of the medical treatment Michael was receiving. This point is critical

-- Michael despised AEG and referred to people who worked for the company as "snakes"

-- Michael had particular disdain for "This Is It" producer/director Kenny Ortega. MJ said he hated Ortega, who had no idea how much pain he was inflicting on Michael with the breakneck pace.

AEG Live found not liable in Michael Jackson’s death

A Los Angeles jury decided Wednesday that AEG Live hired Dr. Conrad Murray, but also concluded that the concert promoter was not liable for Michael Jackson’s drug overdose death.

The jury decided that Murray was competent, so even though AEG Live hired him, it was not liable for Jackson’s death and didn’t owe the Jackson family millions of dollars in compensation.

Katherine Jackson loses last-chance damage suit

With a jury's refusal to hold a concert promoter responsible for Michael Jackson's death, the late singer's mother lost perhaps her last best chance to collect millions in damages and place blame for her son's untimely demise.

"I'm OK," was all that the Jackson family matriarch said as she moved slowly out of a courtroom after hearing Wednesday's stunning verdict denying her claim for as much as $1.5 billion and giving her nothing.

For a bunch of amazing avid truth-seekers, I fear that you've really missed the point regarding Michael Jackson.
I want to see some grey-matter flexed in here. Some REAL non-tabloid fueled research! Because I really need your help. <3

I have studied the 'The People of the State of California Vs. Michael Joseph Jackson' trial thoroughly, I've trawled through all the endless reams of court transcripts, and every avenue I've gone down with it has always lead to the conclusion that He was an innocent Man, painfully so.

I can tell you at great length about how corrupt District Attorney Tom Sneddon fabricated fingerprint evidence in 2004 at the pretrial hearing.

And how the genuine FBI file on Michael showed 0 criminal activity regarding Children of any kind:

Feel free to ask me anything! As a misunderstood man once said: "Lies run Sprints, but the truth runs Marathons"

Conrad Murray -- Medical Board Says You'll Practice Over Our Dead Bodies! | TMZ

Our sources, which have inside info into the case, tell TMZ members of the Board believe Murray is unfit to practice medicine based on what he did to Michael Jackson. One source put it bluntly, "He's not getting his license back."

As for why, we're told board members have already discussed the case -- the fact that Murray was fueling MJ with Propofol for 60 days straight and allowed him to massively OD just before he died. They also think it's unconscionable that Murray shockingly abused Propofol by using it as a sleeping aid.

We're told the Board will often give a doctor one pass for misdeeds, like cocaine use or even hurting a patient. But they believe the circumstances surrounding Michael's death involve a "moral failing" which is unforgivable.

Dr. Conrad Murray -- WHO WANTS TO BE MY PUBLICIST?! | TMZ

Looking for a job as a celebrity publicist? Good news, Conrad Murray is looking to hire, and with only 1 week left 'til he's out of jail, he wants to move fast, TMZ has learned.

Multiple sources tell us Murray, with the help of his GF Nicole Alvarez, has been contacting publicists around town, hoping he can find someone who can help change his image and even book him gigs in Hollywood.

The game plan is obvious -- we've learned network TV shows are falling over each other to book Murray for the first post-jail interview, and a lot of money is being offered. And we're told he's been writing a book as well. Based on what we know a reality show is not out of the question.

Conrad Murray Released From Jail, Now Angling For Book Deal, Reality Show | Vanity Fair

After serving two years in jail for his role in the death of Michael Jackson, Dr. Conrad Murray walked free today, leaving the Los Angeles County jail a few minutes after midnight Monday. Murray was whisked away in a sheriff’s car, in order to avoid the throngs of reporters and M.J. fanatics who had congregated outside awaiting his release (the sheriff’s office said the escort was deployed to preserve the “safety and security” of the jail). The Jackson fans, according to CNN, were not pleased about this special treatment shown Murray.

So, what happens for Murray now? Well, for one thing, his lawyer says he’ll be attempting to get his medical licenses reinstated in California, Texas and Nevada. (We’re curious to see how the comments sections of those pages will play out, should that be a successful endeavor). And, naturally, Murray reportedly has his eyes on the holy grail of American culture: the reality show. TMZ says he’s “open to some sort of reality show, following his life after jail.” He also apparently spent time in jail working on a memoir that deals with his time with Jackson, which “casts blame on others and justifies his conduct in the treatment [of Jackson].” He does not have a publisher yet, but, c’mon, given the way these things work, the book’ll probably be dominating Barnes & Noble displays by Christmas.

Dr. Conrad Murray and the jailhouse math behind his early release

Dr. Conrad Murray served less than two years of his four-year 'sentence.' His release highlights the need for sentencing reform.

By the Los Angeles Times editorial board

He got four years for involuntary manslaughter. That's a felony, and although every felony is a serious crime, this one is not designated by statute as one of the "serious" (or "violent" or "sexual") offenses that are ineligible for certain good-conduct credits. Under a state law dating back 30 years, Murray was eligible for one day off for good conduct for every day served. Because his behavior was "exemplary," according to a sheriff's spokesman, Murray's four-year sentence was completed after two years. The jail was not entitled to hold him any longer than that.,0,5640689.story

Dr. Conrad Murray: 'I Held Michael's Penis Every Night' | TMZ

Dr. Conrad Murray says he and Michael Jackson were so tight, he would hold his penis for him.

In a bizarre, rambling interview with The Daily Mail, Murray says, "You want to know how close we were? I held his penis every night to fit a catheter because he was incontinent at night."

Murray went on to say, "He wore dark trousers all the time because after he went to the toilet he would drip for hours."

And there's this mystery: Murray says, "Michael didn't know how to put a condom on, so I had to do it for him."

Murray also discloses some of the things TMZ revealed years ago -- that Murray believes Michael killed himself. Murray claims when he walked out of Michael's bedroom the day he died, "I believe he woke up, got hold of his own stash of Propofol and injected himself. He did it too quickly and went into cardiac arrest."

And, Murray suggests, MJ's kids have 3 different fathers, and Michael isn't one of them. Murray says, "Michael told me he never slept with Debbie Rowe."

And, Murray insists, Michael told him he had been sexually assaulted by one of his doctors while under sedation.

Michael Jackson Estate Rips Conrad Murray Over Penis-Holding Claims -- You're a Shameful Coward | TMZ

The Michael Jackson Estate has had just about enough of Dr. Conrad Murray running his mouth -- talking about things like how he used to hold MJ's penis every night -- and now it's demanding he shut up once and for all, or face a lawsuit.

MJ Estate lawyer Howard Weitzman fired off a cease and desist letter to Murray earlier this week, writing, "Your recent comments to the media about Mr. Jackson’s medical treatment and ultimate death shamefully violate the physician-patient privilege under California law."

He calls Murray a COWARD for attempting to use the media to defend himself instead of testifying in court during his manslaughter trial.

If Murray keeps talking, Weitzman says the Estate will file suit -- and will subsequently inform any medical board with which Murray attempts to obtain his medical license that he violates the doctor-patient privilege willy-nilly.

Katherine Jackson -- The Jury Was Bamboozled ... I Want a New Trial | TMZ

Katherine Jackson has just formally asked for a new trial in the Michael Jackson wrongful death case, claiming the judge screwed up by not letting the jury consider that Conrad Murray acted like a nincompoop AFTER he was hired by AEG.

Katherine lost because the jury decided when AEG hired Murray, there was no reason to believe he was incompetent. The answer to that question ended the case. Katherine feels the judge should have allowed jurors to go further -- even if Murray seemed competent at the beginning, he proved reckless and irresponsible during the months leading up to Jackson's death, and AEG did nothing to stop it.

The documents formally asking for a new trial include statements from 4 jurors, who say they feel the verdict was wrong.

Katherine Jackson's Michael Jackson Documentary -- Money Grab? | TMZ

Michael Jackson's mom SAYS she's doing a heartfelt documentary about her son's life, but the reality is it seems to be a shameful money grab.

Katherine Jackson has announced she wants to do the documentary, but needs the fans to send her money to pay for the licensing of Michael's image and music. Translation: she's insinuating the big bad Michael Jackson Estate is being coldhearted and greedy by charging Michael's family.

Here's the reality: Howard Weitzman, the lawyer for the Estate, tells TMZ NO ONE from the Jackson family has contacted him or anyone else from the Estate asking for permission to use MJ's image and music. Weitzman wants to make it clear: "The Estate would never ask Michael's fans to contribute their money to finance any speculative project."

Katherine is using a website to solicit donations and is offering MJ merchandise as bait. FYI, the license for merchandising is held by Bravado, so Katherine can't do that without permission.

If Katherine makes the documentary, the people it will likely hurt are Michael's kids. That's because THEY are the ultimate beneficiaries of the Estate, and if the Estate does an MJ documentary in the future (which is almost certain), it will probably be devalued by anything Katherine does.

And it still gets worse: Katherine and company have enlisted the help of Blanket, Paris and Prince to solicit funds from fans. It's pretty clear -- they don't understand the implications of helping her out.

Conrad Murray - I'm Back in the Medical Biz! | TMZ

Conrad Murray now has a chance to improve his success record in treating patients, because he's back in business.

TMZ has learned the patients this time around will be children with heart problems. Murray has taken a gig with the Trinidad Ministry of Health, where he'll be consulting with local heart surgeons.

Murray won't get rich off the new job. He's volunteering his services, but it's definitely a foot in the door. His medical license has been revoked in Texas and suspended in California and Nevada.

The government wants Murray to use his U.S. contacts to help hook up the sick kids.

Joan Rivers: Screw-Up Over Propofol During Fatal Surgery | TMZ

Doctors who performed the procedure that led to Joan Rivers' death screwed up by not following the proper procedure before sedating her with Propofol, according to a New York State agency.

The Dept. of Health and Human Services examined the Yorkville Endoscopy Center, where Joan stopped breathing. The Dept. found there's no record that the staff weighed Joan before administering the Propofol, the point being, the amount of the sedative should be based on size.

The computer at the clinic also shows she was given a huge dosage of Propofol. A staff member told the Dept. she made a mistake inputting the dosage and put in more than twice the actual amount give to Joan.

Paris Jackson: Michael Jackson's Daughter Speaks Out

    By Brian Hiatt, Rolling Stone

Paris blames Dr. Conrad Murray – who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in her father's death – for the dependency on the anesthetic drug propofol that led to it. She calls him "the 'doctor,'" with satirical air quotes. But she has darker suspicions about her father's death. "He would drop hints about people being out to get him," she says. "And at some point he was like, 'They're gonna kill me one day.'" (Lisa Marie Presley told Oprah Winfrey of a similar conversation with Michael, who expressed fears that unnamed parties were targeting him to get at his half of the Sony/ATV music-publishing catalog, worth hundreds of millions.)

Paris is convinced that her dad was, somehow, murdered. "Absolutely," she says. "Because it's obvious. All arrows point to that. It sounds like a total conspiracy theory and it sounds like bullshit, but all real fans and everybody in the family knows it. It was a setup. It was bullshit."

But who would have wanted Michael Jackson dead? Paris pauses for several seconds, maybe considering a specific answer, but just says, "A lot of people." Paris wants revenge, or at least justice. "Of course," she says, eyes glowing. "I definitely do, but it's a chess game. And I am trying to play the chess game the right way. And that's all I can say about that right now."
