Thank you RPs (Real Posters) for your point of view, and thank you Sue, for letting this thread continue in all it's imperfect gloriousness. Sometimes the messy reality is better than letting people wonder what the fuck is going on.

And trolls, some of you suck, some of you are funny. I will leave it to you to decide which side of the line you are on. This is what I love about WWP. Carry on.

  5. I really don't get this. Then again a lot of stuff goes over my head. The first time somebody told me to DIAF I thanked them kindly.

Really, really old irrelevant news. Mods are not in a position to see IP addresses. They may have been able to do this at one time - but no more. I think I get it.

Trusting Sue is a different matter. I read on the internet she may in fact be a dude. Which is a shame as I have sent her thousands of filthy messages telling her what I'd do with her and how much she would love it. Oh well

As you pointed out in the end of your post. There indeed has been a lot of begging the question and insinuated. It's virtually impossible to answer loaded questions as no matter what you respond it can be spun into something you haven't said.
Yes, me. Removed visibility from moderators, most server logs which could contain ip adresses have been disabled, the ones that still do are thrown away after 7 days, internal logging by the forum application is wiped manually when I think of it, this I'd like to automate.
I personally do, ten of them I believe. It frustrated me for a long time as it brought personal relationships and admiration I had for certain individuals into question. It was brilliantly set up to look like TD did do so. Looking at the information often made me wonder if she could have done it -- as everything was made to look like it came from her. The question "If this isn't true than who did it" comes to mind. I think it's perfectly reasonable given the circumstances to doubt peoples words, including those close to you.

I don't think there will ever be enough black and white evidence to point out who did.

This is a rhetorical question: If hypothetically your IP address was one way or another obtained and divulged to a third party, this situation attracting a lot of eye balls.
Would you want an Admin to confirm the validity of the claims and by extension your IP? A lot of people, at that time didn't.

There's too many tangents and factors to say yes to that blindly.

I don't believe to have antagonized anyone in specific.

Ah, right. Quite. That actually makes sense (<- not sarcasm)! I was wondering a bit about that at the time, thanks Sue for a perfectly reasonable explanation.

I'd just like to conform Theswellseason's version of things. The upheaval that led to DBZ was about doxing policy, not IP-addresses.

This if of course all ancient history. Jeez, I feel old now.

I totally agree. And this wasn't why I resigned as mod. When Sue asked us whether we wanted to be global mods or mods of specific boards, I elected to be a mod only over AvS. With the changed role of mods, I formed the view that moderating wasn't the best use of my time and effort in Chanology.

Also, for the record, it wasn't Sue who raised this matter in the first place. My recollection was that someone, possibly Aaron Saxton, posted about it elsewhere and then brought it here.

Anyway, it's dead and dusted. Sue and I are still friends.

Though we're not as close as I am to Rinder and Rathbun.

Correct, it would be foolish to exclude the possibility of compromise ever.

Likewise considering WWP is not the only place frequented by anons I can't attest to their information not being leaked.

Be it by neglecting system administration or because of site operators having ulterior motives. For what it's worth there have in the past years not been concrete indications that pointed towards compromise, allegations were made -- yet turned out to point towards another site as it potential source, since the dox dropped didn't correspond with information present on WWP servers.

All that being said, my moral obligation to protect and provide anonymity stops at WWP, it's not my call to make when it comes to using other websites. Hence the onus lies on users.

Sorry to see you have some seeming problems with reason and prudence.

    Waxing is better.

  15. Tiny Dancer doesn't seem the type run a covert operation with Marty to identify and possibly harass the ten old fags on that screenshot we saw back in the day.

If I didn't suck at searching I would find that other "OMG WWP compromised!" trolling attempt that came long after the TinyDancer affair. Someone posted a list of nicks and names as a fresh leak. But it was a list of old fags suggesting maybe an old enturbulation leak.

tl;dr: Shit gonna get stirred. Scientology already dead, so lol.

It is a semi regular occurrence where someone tries to sow the seeds of dissent and mistrust within our little family. It doesn't work. We're too dysfunctional.

  23. I hope all this shitstirring does not evolve into preventing Guest Posters from posting. I do this to protect my privacy and anonymity, as I do not trust anyone with my email. I use proxies (seven!) cos I don't want my IPs revealed. I am Paranoid, yes, some years ago the Enturb DB was sold and I don't want my shit in the hands of the cult or Marty or whoever.

  25. Nothing wrong with being paranoid. If you are concerned about your anonymity then you should take all precautions to protect it and trust no one.

I personally don't care. I can't imagine OSA or anyone else being too concerned with my joking around and constant derailments of threads. But each to their own.

Thank you, Sue. While I had always assumed so, it was important to hear your explicit commitment to due diligence in assuring anonymity of users. I also think it was informative to understand the thought process underlying your actions. Sometimes what is obvious to you is not obvious to the rest of us.

For the record it was a total coincidence that I wandered in to WWP just after this thread. HOC sent me a PM telling me people still think I am awesome and not to worry. I thought, "worry? This sounds interesting." I found the thread and lol'd.

I like having Marty and Mike in front of me. It makes aiming easier, and they suck up incoming ammo from the enemy.

    Totally metaphorical, of course.

A long treatise on the personal responsibility for being a cog in an evil machine and how to atone for that will be continued on the next message. It'll be great! Covering 'shot for "just following orders"', the common person in an evil system, the shining examples of the people with the moral courage who did The Right Thing, and how we need a secular name like Saint for these people. It'll EPIC!

    Continued on next post.
