Dalai Lama and the Melbourne Parliament of the World's Religions Dec 3 - Dec 6

The 2009 Parliament of the World's Religions is being held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). It opens the evening of Wednesday December 3 and closes the evening of Wednesday December 9, when the Dalai Lama will deliver an address.

THE 2009 PARLIAMENT / Welcome to Melbourne | Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions

10,000 people are expected to attend the event.

This is a great opportunity to gather signatures for the petition supporting Senator Xenophon's request for, and to build contacts with Australian religious leaders and opinion makers.

Emmanual Foundas, org president in Melbourne. and the "Reverend" Bob Adams are speaking on "The Spiritual Tradition of Scientology" on Sunday, Dec 6.

    Here's the "Reverend" Adams bio:

It would be useful to have a mole at the talk to report back.

There are Australian participants on some of the panels who could be usefully harpooned to educate them and encourage them to support a parliamentary inquiry into the cult.

I have pulled out relevant detail with names of people who would be worthwhile contacting.

    Fri Dec 4:

PROGRAM / Friday, 4 Dec | Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions

Comment: The Rev Tim Costello is the most eminent Australian Christian to speak at the event. Former President of the Baptist Union of Australia , he was awarded the Australian Peace Prize in 2008.

Friday evening is also Communities Night and attendees will be out and about at functions at various churches, mosques, etc.

    Sun Dec 6:

PROGRAM / Sunday, 6 Dec | Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions
Comment: These people need to be harpooned about the Volunteer Ministers. See scilon Linda Weiland's PR piece: Scientology Volunteer Ministers provide Disaster Relief During Melbourne Fires

World Sentinel | Scientology Volunteer Ministers Provide Disaster Relief During Melbourne Fires

Comment: These could usefully be harpooned about scilon inflitration and manipulation of inter-faith alliances. See for example the Portland OR, pre-Parliament event. Check the left-hand sidebar:

Pre-Parliament Event: Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA, USA

    Mon Dec 7:

PROGRAM / Monday, 7 Dec | Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions

Comment: Harpoons for Drug Free Ambasadors, Way To Happiness, Applied Scholastics, Youth for Human Rights.

Comments: We need to harpoon religious writers to get them to start writing. Youth Plenary - just who we need to recruit for Anon.

    Wed Dec 9:

PROGRAM / Wednesday, 9 Dec | Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions
Comment: This looks like an important group to harpoon since the are described as "top-flight writers." So far, no one in the Australian religious media has commented on Sen Xenophon's speech and call for a Parliamentary inquiry.

The presence of the Dalai Lama closing the event Wednesday evening is sure to draw a large crowd.

Good job gathering all this info, OP.

Not much time to get things together, but if any Anons can pull this off---it's the Aussies. If nothing else, would be great if they could get someone inside the cult event.

John Safran had the organisers of this event on the radio last night, and asked them their opinion of Scientology.

This is remarkable. It is from an interview on Sunday Night Safran where Fr. Bob is Safran's co-host:

JOHN SAFRAN and FATHER BOB MAGUIRE are back with their own take on religion, politics and all things ethnic. This week they speak to Californian pyschologist, Kevin MacDonald, whose work has been likened to classical Nazism. They exlore interreligious understanding with, Reverend Dirk Ficca, Executive Director of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions and Barney Zwartz, Religion Editor of the Age Newspaper. They go behind Australian doors and examine the conditions of detained Asylum Seekers in Indonesia with Lawyer and Refugee Advocate, Jesse Taylor. And they meet Meryl Tankard, Director and Choreographer of The Oracle, to discuss the music of The Rite of Spring, for Religious Song of the Week.

I can't tell who the speakers are from this clip. It must be Dirk Ficca and Barney Zwartz. The man saying he agrees with investigating is Fr. Bob, as far as I can tell.

"I read all those letters that were tabled. If any of it is true, it's pretty horrible. So I would like to see an inquiry ... People have said that it is okay to be a religion unless they are doing anything illegal and that's what the criminal system is for...
If you are dealing with anything cult-like it is not just so easy as saying, "Just call the police."

John Safran is pretty amazing and an awesome prankster.

Sunday with Safran is broadcast on ABC's Triple-J network aimed at 18 - 24 year olds. It would be great to get anons on some of these programs.

Fr. Bob Maguire is also the pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, South Melbourne. He is clearly on our side. Anons and exes need to go talk with him, particularly with the Parliament of the World's Religions taking place in Melbourne this week.

Fr. Bob is the first public Catholic voice to speak up on the Sen Xenophon petition.

Nancy Many was interviewed on the show two weeks ago.

    Podcast clip is here:

If MelbAnons are the ones to deliver the information, they might need help preparing a specific pamphlet.

Maybe make the pamphlet more about the internal policies of the Sea Org, which policies the whole organisation and upon which the whole organisation of the church of scientology is governed, than the "beliefs".

The beliefs are neither here nor there and I think the scilons prefer to keep the conversation about beliefs so they can claim religious persecution.

Remember the internal policies contradict the outwardly promoted ideals and philosophies of the organisation. Perhaps a pamphlet that shows the ideals compared to the policies.
