Go with your gut, I guess. When I walk up Runyon Canyon and see the clearly observant orange-brown band of haze hanging over the city skyline, I know the smog is bad here.

It's not the same in all parts of town though. Haze hanging over the skyline, that's like downtown, where all the emission-spewing cars and congestion are.
