I guessed that the militia were part of "Unite the Right" but apparently they went to Charlottesville to keep the peace between the Nazis and the counter protesters. Still, I remember them hanging out with the Bundys, who are far-right and really annoying. So I give them one point but that's not quite enough to remove my mistrust.

Charlottesville victim’s mother says, 'I’m not talking to the president now after what he said' | ABC News

    Excerpt:

"I hadn’t really watched the news until last night and I’m not talking to the president now, I'm sorry, after what he said about my child," Bro explained. "It’s not that I saw somebody else’s tweets about him, I saw an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters ... with the KKK and the white supremacists."

She continued, "You can’t wash this one away by shaking my hand and saying, ‘I’m sorry.’ I’m not forgiving for that."

When asked if there was anything she would want to say to Trump, Bro said, "Think before you speak."

  3. This is what I thought from the beginning, and I'm really no friend of Trump. There were actually three groups: Neo-Nazis, Counter-protesters and Antifa. If you have Antifa and Neo-Nazis without police between them, there will always be violence. Reading around, one article described how police tried to separate them by different routes / areas for marching / gathering. I found no detailed info, but from what I know about Antifa(nts), they would use the route they want just like the Neo-Nazis. And both make sure these routes will cross.

Eye witnesses said, Antifa protected them. Good thing, but what do you expect from Neo-Nazis if you block their way they are allowed to use? Of course they are not allowed to kill you then - but free speech is for all, be it Neo-Nazi assholes or President chatterboxes.
The only part Uber-Chatterbox is wrong or was not detailed enough: Don't compare peaceful Counter-Protesters with Neo-Nazis.

Anti-fa are doing protesting wrong. You can't fight crime by behaving like a criminal. Yes it is important to defend yourself but your first duty is to get the hell away from your attacker if at all possible.

Vigilante justice is great in movies but in real life it causes a breakdown of civil order. People who have lived through violent social chaos have a hard time re-building a normal level of trust in other people. Shit can stay fucked up for generations. This is why "let the courts decide" is the way to go, even if the courts fuck up.

Imagine 2008 if Anti-fa had been involved in the Scientology protests. No lulz, no cake, and good people branded as "extremists."

But how do we convince Anti-fa that physical violence is a footbullet and not a strategy? I think most of the people joining Anti-fa events are well meaning, just misguided.

White Nationalist isn't going to Boston College because death threats.

He doesn't hate non-whites; he just doesn't want them in his country. And he thinks it's crazy to hate people you've never met.

Such self-contradiction reminds me of Scientology. It must take a 24/7 echo chamber at full volume to drown out the cognitive dissonance.
  6. Disambiguation Global Moderator

I completely disagree. Protest is the appropriate response to White supremists and Nazis. The protestors are brave, those guys were carrying guns and shouting anti Semitic slogans. They are fucking Nazis and lucky they weren't set upon by other people with guns. Protest.

I don't know what you mean by "protest." I'm fine with pubic assembly and signs and yelling things. I'm not fine with setting fires and hitting other people with sticks, which is what Anti-fa do. Violent protest like that gives people like Trump ammunition. Giving your enemy ammunition is a footbullet.

Imagine if Scientology protesters broke windows at Ideal Orgs, or responded to bullbaiting with fists. Chanology would have accomplished nothing.
  9. If the Nazis who marched through Charlottesville do not support the genocide of the Jews, communists, socialists, democrats, homosexuals, slavs, JWs... they need to renounce their insane beliefs and stop wrapping themselves in the Swastika.

Otherwise, no-one is safe, and certainly not the Nazis themselves. There are just too many people still around who have sworn never to forget, nor to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Second wave of leaks on US senators

    Quote:

Anonymous released private information on a second wave of United States senators on Friday, mainly Democrats, with the aim of pressuring the politicians to launch the impeachment process of their president.

Email addresses and phone numbers from 26 senators of the US Democratic Party and two independents, including Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren, were given out in a press release at 4:00 pm ET on Friday.

This follows a release of private information on 22 senators the previous day, who many were reportedly able to contact.

  12. Dis, I can personally sympathise with both your position and TI's.

Murderous Nazis are a special case. They seek out violence as a means of self-expression. That has been and still is apparently their only ideology.

I would like to know why anyone was allowed on the protest (on any side, or on no side) who had any kind of weapon, whether it was guns, or armour, or sticks, shields or torches, or whatever. It should have been a prerequisite for granting permits that the proper authorities could verify in advance, with sufficient resources to arrest anyone who did not comply.

It goes without saying that the Nazis could never agree. Without all the military hardware, they'd be on an equal footing with, and indistinguishable from the untermenschen they seek to intimidate (ie everyone else).

But it seems that neither the local authorities, the judges, even the US Constitution, can enforce such a rule.

Not that it would have saved poor Heather Heyer.

The Daily Stormer, infamous neo-Nazi site, resurfaces at .lol address following Cloudflare ban

By Andrew Blake, The Washington Times

    Quote:

The Daily Stormer white supremacist website refused to die Friday and resurfaced instead at a new domain safeguarded by a Seattle-based cyber protection firm in the aftermath of being nearly driven offline in the wake of this week’s deadly far-right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The notorious website was accessible Friday afternoon at dailystormer.lol, at least its fourth domain since being all but ejected from the internet this week after its publisher penned an article mocking the woman killed protesting Saturday’s “Unite the Right” rally, 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

The Stormer was booted from its .com web address after being blacklisted by first GoDaddy and then Google in the aftermath of the article’s publication Saturday and has struggled to stay online ever since.

DailyStormer.wang launched Wednesday but was offline within hours, and DailyStormer.ru suffered a similar fate the following day after attracting the attention of Russia’s state-run internet watchdog, Roskomnadzor.

The game of neo-Nazi whack-a-mole continued with the launch Friday of dailystormer.lol and the website’s hiring of Bitmitigate, a Seattle-based content delivery network company contracted by The Daily Stormer to protect it from distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, a tactic used to knock websites offline by overloading them with illegitimate internet traffic.

“We are offering protection to the Daily Stormer simply as a protection of free speech,” Bitmitigate owner Nicholas Lim told The Washington Times.

“It comes down to the fact that our decision has nothing to do with the contents of the website, but rather the fundamental underlying principles at play,” Mr. Lim said Friday with respect to protecting The Daily Stormer from DDoS attacks. “In regards to whether or not customers will react negatively: I am sure that they will, but if this progression continues, unfortunately, we may live in a society where they may not be able to react at all.”

I've always done peaceful and legal protesting and pepper spray is not good for asthma and hiding behind bushes as bad guys go by is really really scary.
  18. The Internet Member

Sounds like we mostly agree, then. So what do you mean when you say, "we disagree"?
  19. Disambiguation Global Moderator

Sometimes we are morally bound ( yes- morally) to protest against violent scary bad guys. Walking away isn't the right thing to do. You risk being smashed by cars or batons but you protest anyway.

The law says you can only cause bodily harm to another if you can't reasonably gtfo so enjoy your prison sentence. Plus I don't want to pay your medical bills with my tax dollars. And finally, there are no purple hearts when you fight a war against...

    alt right retard.jpg

The alt right are mostly hopeless, much like Scientologists. If they get woke it will be due to things happening within their own cult rather than anybody's counter-protests.

Protesting is really meant for the hearts and minds of the public. Note that the public are alarmed by "leftists" who hit people with baseball bats. Ergo, footbullet.

Anti-fa don't seem to understand bullbaiting and footbullets. I'm hoping sensible people can get to them before they set the Reichstag on fire.
  24. The Internet Member

Oh yes, yes it would. Considering the comment bots out there muddying the waters with questionable info (e.g., Fields "was scared," a cop stopped CPR on Heather, crazy conspiracies), seems a likely possibility.

I found a livestream that has a lot of details about the sequence of events. The cameraman flips from selfie to crowd view but I don't believe there are any edits. He starts walking from the corner of 1st and Water St toward 5th St. You see a thin crowd at 4th and Water as he passes. There's a glimpse of Field's Charger headed east on Water. No damage to the vehicle is visible.

Camera guy turns up 5th and pauses on the mall. He doesn't see the events on 4th until Fields has backed away. But there is continuous coverage of the crowd around Heather, including the start and end of CPR. You can't see much because 4th st is crowded.

This evening Google maps updated their street views of downtown Charlottesville.

You can see chalk memorials on 4th st.

After Fields backed up 4th St like a bat out of hell he turned east on Market St. This vid was taken from a position a little west of the police station. People cheer as they see a car dragging its bumper because they don't know what has just happened.

  27. The girls told to organize the after party and not go to the march. Stay sweet.
  28. At all protests I attended in the last years, Antifa was the main problem for me. They destroy the "peaceful" argument and the police knowing that, sometimes sends undercover guys to provoke violence. Not in cases where Leftists and Rightists clash but where people protest against "the system". Since police makes itself a tool of it, I sometimes can understand Antifa. On average, politicians are corrupt, corruption is done with money, big money is with big capitalists. Hard to change w/o violence, but for me anything else is not an option - fan of Jesus- and Gandhi-Tech.

How to deal with Neo-Nazis then?
Massive police forces instead of letting Antifa do the job and letting them make heroes of themselves. Prevent any deviation from allowed routes and gatherings for _both_ sides. No weapons allowed.

I know that protesters between "peaceful" and Antifa say we cannot let Neo-Nazis walk. Why? How many by-standers would march with them? What does blocking their way help? You fuel their argument of suppression. And formally they are correct.
Do you really want to say, Neo-Nazis are so special, are deviant human beings so we have the right to decide which laws are valid for them? Wait a moment ...

I say: Let them walk! But not un-seen. Not without sueing the shit out of them for every iota they cross the law. For every human being they harm.
If you are afraid of the shitheads to govern you one day, then get up your asses and change your system, which is the main reason to enable it. If you wake up in Naziland, maybe your vote was wrong?

I loved that interviewer with long hair and funny glasses doing it right! Just observing and asking questions in a way, even the crybaby was able to understand. Bitter if you don't understand the subtle irony of your interviewer ... so cool that woman!

Most European countries just do that. Hate speech of any type is illegal here.
  31. To sanction hate speech directed to another person, e.g. death threats is a good thing imo.

But does it change my mind if I get fined for calling "All loud playing children should be killed."?
Who decides if I'm just kidding?
Would it be a good idea sentencing me to a week in kindergarden?
What happens if I cursed children silently (since I'd be fined otherwise) for years and then one day do amok taping?
Free speech / communication would be the solution here. First to release my steam and second for society to recognize my problem (and hopefully sending me to a shrink).

What I do not understand is that in some countries carrying weapons for private people is allowed. That's indeed a way of communication, to me more like hate speech.
  32. Ann O'Nymous Member

Most European countries just forbid that, with few and motivated exceptions. There are lobbies, but none is as powerful as NRA, and their influence on public authorities is overall smaller than in the USA.
  33. The Internet Member

Anti-fa are naive people who get suckered into believing that "violence works" and old communists who've been supported by Russia for decades. What a coincidence because Russia has been funding far-right groups in many countries the past few years. The fashies are fucking gleeful over the PR gift that is Anti-fa.

Anti-fa are undermining the left's major position: the rule of law rather than the rule of force. To accept the idea that "violence works" is to accept "might makes right."

In Charlottesville I saw Anti-fa hitting someone with a big stick, an elderly Nazi who'd fallen on the street. The guy hitting the old man hadn't been attacked by him. Violence toward helpless old people will scare the shit out of your parents and grandparents. But it won't scare white supremacists who often have done hard time in prison.

I wish the journalist in this piece below would criticize the claim that "violence works." That's some bullshit propaganda communists liked to use back in the day. Ordinary citizens fucking hate violence and the people who do it.

No, there were two really old Nazi geezers who got cold cocked by Anti-fa while standing in the road in front of the Charlottesville PD. The first geezer was hit with a billy club on the back of the head, then again on his back as he went down. The second geezer, beard geezer, was wrastled to the ground by a Fem Anti-fa. Couple of Nazis were right there but did not beat the shit out of the fa, contrary to protocol. Notably no marks on said geezers. Also I sensed some theatrical fighting skills on the part of the fas. I will hunt for the vid later.

But this is why anti-Nazi protesters need to be clear that they are against violence. Make those Putin stooges hire expensive actors to do their black PR of "liberals."

Charlottesville: Race and Terror – VICE News Tonight on HBO | VICE News

On Saturday hundreds of white nationalists, alt-righters, and neo-Nazis traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia to participate in the “Unite the Right” rally. By Saturday evening three people were dead – one protester, and two police officers – and many more injured.

“VICE News Tonight” correspondent Elle Reeve went behind the scenes with white nationalist leaders, including Christopher Cantwell, Robert Ray, David Duke, and Matthew Heimbach — as well as counter-protesters. VICE News Tonight also spoke with residents of Charlottesville, members of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the Charlottesville Police.

From the neo-Nazi protests at Emancipation Park to Cantwell’s hideaway outside of Virginia, “VICE News Tonight” provides viewers with exclusive, up close and personal access inside the unrest.

This episode of VICE News Tonight aired August 14, 2017 on HBO.

The rise and humiliating fall of Chris Cantwell, Charlottesville’s starring ‘fascist’

By Avi Selk, The Washington Post

    Quote:

The white supremacists, nationalists and far-right trolls who starred in last weekend’s violent Charlottesville rallies have suffered no lack of humiliation in the days since.

Take “Millennial Matt,” whose catchphrase — “Hitler did nothing wrong!” — earned him tens of thousands of fans before he went to the rally, but his Twitter account has since been deleted, his real identity publicized, and he is now begging fans for money to flee his home town because “my life is in shambles.”

There are plenty of other examples, from the hot dog restaurant cook who lost his job to university students whose schools publicly denounced racism after they went to the march. There’s even a Twitter feed devoted to shaming the tiki-torch-lit faces of white nationalism.

But none of the marchers soared so high or crashed so hard as Chris Cantwell, who became the ivory-skinned, gun-toting star of a documentary about Charlottesville that aired Monday on HBO — and a week later is better known as the “weeping Nazi” who got banned from OkCupid.

Creepy Christopher Cantwell posed for booking pic after DUI

    Quote:

Christopher Cantwell, the tough-talking white supremacist who faces arrest for wilding in Charlottesville, will soon be posing for a fresh mug shot.

Until then, however, fans of the Weepy Nazi™ can enjoy this booking photo of the 36-year-old, which was snapped in Suffolk County, N.Y. in November 2010 following Cantwell's second drunk driving conviction. Cantwell’s rap sheet also includes convictions for weapons possession and criminal possession of stolen property.

Fearful that an arrest warrant had been issued for him in Virginia, Cantwell this week recorded a teary video in which he claimed to be “terrified” of being collared for his antics at Saturday’s violent “Unite the Right” rally.

Addressing cops, Cantwell said, “I'm armed. I do not want violence with you, alright?" He added, “I'm terrified. I'm afraid you're going to kill me I really am." Cantwell also claimed, “We are trying to be law-abiding. And our enemies will not stop. What options do we have left?"

Cantwell, a Keene, New Hampshire resident, went to Charlottesville with multiple handguns. But he is wanted in connection with his alleged use of pepper spray. The warrants charge him with illegal use of gases and injury by caustic agent or explosive.

Days before his blubbering began, Cantwell made racist and anti-Semitic comments to a Vice film crew. After the rally, Cantwell declared that the death of Heather Heyer was “justified.” Heyer, 32, was killed when white supremacist James Alex Fields Jr. plowed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.
